I don't usually take the time to entertain such lousy arguments, but I fear in this case I feel compelled to set the facts straight. For it would be an injustice to let such pathetic words pass!

Let's get to it then:

Can always spot a Blumenkohl post a mile off by his grandiose entrance intro, which is really useful for knowing where to stop reading and skip to the next post. Cheers Blum!

Weta Fanboy!

By the way, LeBlanc, have you seen the pic of Thranduil? What are your thoughts on it?

The crown is quite silly looking

Ladies and gentlemen, after much effort to remain as ignorant as humanly possible of this beloved film...or two..or three, I have collapsed under pressure and have decided to join the conversation.

Let us begin.

Weta Digital > ILM

Absolute dandelion turds. Weta are very strong, and in fact the best, in a very narrow scope of visual effects. For example their character work is very strong. But their compositing looks like something done by the slackers in film school. So saying Weta > ILM is like saying Yacht > Air Craft Carrier.

I'm far from being any sort of expert, but I tend to agree with is. Their character animation is mostly absolutely wonderful, but their composition looks awful in many recent projects

Thranduil was the just about the only non-silly Elf in the Hobbit. Others were light hearted loons and drunkards.

Posted

Right aloof. Definitely aloof.

Posted

I think you're forgetting Thranduil is quite aloof!

No! You're the loof!!

Posted

Oh boy ...

Just when you thought Jackson had a weak spot for childish Dwarf humor, he proceeds to make the Hobbit as grim as Two Towers.

Dunno, it can be the most popular headpiece this winter season.

Though I'm sure both words could be applicable in the sitiuation that Chaac proposed in his imagination, what with the Spider entanglements being agglutinative and all.

I can't believe what they wrote: Did you know? Dwarves are very proud of their beards. The bigger the beard, the more impressive the dwarf!

I can't f****ng believe they had the guts to write that....

Get off your stupidly obtuse high horse and realise that this movie is to be marketed at young children as well as single minded smartass fans who despite themselves will at some point in their lives see things in much broader terms than what is directly front and center of them!

Posted

It was just written by some marketing department. It's not like Peter, Fran or Phillipa sat down and cranked that out!

This.

Posted

I'm sure PJ, Fran, Philipa and Guille are still aware of the dwarven beards cultural thingie.

They obviously are. But I suppose they choose to make Thorin appear as he did so they can have a younger hero and a substitute for the Aragorn figure in these films (for more mainstream appeal).

But they probably didn't have anything to do with the beard comment on that calendar.

Sorry if i hurt some sensibilities... sheeesh!

I think that is written, because it probably is Tolkien canon.

Which they ignored for the film....

And whoever wrote that, shouldnt have done it, since seeing the film dwarves, it's ridiculous to write it.

It has nothing to do with sensibilities you ignororamous. This film will have a large promotional campaign which will target all demographics using various methods and ploys. One of the biggest demographics they will focus on are children, they're a lucrative market. The approach I'm seeing with the beards makes sense from a marketing perspective. Kids like those little details whilst munching a Happy Meal at McDonalds. It's called straightforward common sense in this country, what is it called in yours? I realise that English is your second language Manuel, but I'm beginning to wonder if your first language is Chimpaneze.

I think that they trieed to make the dwarves less "impressive" and/or they though they simply would have more personality as a group with shorter beards. (In group shots they look fine).

I don't care about the starfish hairdo.

Uncool.

It's never stopped me in the past!

I'm easily irrated by morons, it's always been an issue for me.

then you must drive yourself mad because mixing your offensiveness with your otherwise good argument is plain stupid.

you scare me :(

I sometimes did do, when I was still figuring myself out. Eventually I came to realise it's just who I am, I can't make apologies for it. If people irritate me in real life I have a tendency to tell them. I'm a love or hate person, I know that, it's always been that way. But you must be a delicate little petal if I scare you from hundreds of miles away! It's really not necessary.

I find that to be quite admirable in some cases, but there's a difference. you formulate your irritation in a most rude and unfavorable way... but of course you already know that.

But you must be a delicate little petal if I scare you from hundreds of miles away!

good one.

I appreciate your negative reaction to my 'style' here Alice, and I absolutely respect your telling me straight of what you think about it. To me that is refreshingly upfront in [my] world of shrinking violets and behind backs bitching.

You will probably never come to truly like me here, but you're still young in your tenure at JWFan and so I hope you will at least come to accept my way of talking, or failing that, just ignore my ranting altogether ;)

if I didn't like you I wouldn't even have bothered bringing it up :)

back to the topic... I'm getting hungrier and hungrier for the new trailer! my guess on the date is the 18th.

What new trailer?Did I miss something?I just realised that for me, the movie is sort of a byproduct of the music for me ;)I wish Howard Shore would write an opera based on Tolkien.

I wish he would just write a work for orchestra, soloists and choirs as he has done thusfar. As much as I like opera, I personally don't get excited about Frodo and Gandalf discussing by singing or Aragorn and Arwen having a duet.

I'll probably listen to it with my eyes closed, just in the hope of hearing new Shore goodness.

Fingers crossed for some new music! :)

I can only imagine what a delightful Hobbit theme scherzando Shore might spin for that scene. :D

Although it most definitely isn't anywhere near as good as the thing Howard Shore will come up with (duh!), I made a little piece, using the theme from the trailer, for the company leaving Rivendell.

Hope you enjoy it anyway:

Great work Georg! I love how you were essentially mimicking the "The Ring Goes South" format (with the stirring shaking strings and big thematic blasts and all) while substituting it with the new themes.

And I finally realized the confusion when I gave you the notes for the new bilbo theme. You chose to omit the first 3 notes of it (the ones that connect it to the Shire material). That's why you thought I gave you too many notes.

Very excited for that...

Very good effort with that development of the trailer theme Georg! I hope we hear something equally grand in the film with LPO. :)
