Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I stopped after 5 seconds after heard his repeating minor third, his(their) new trademark, heard in batman, inception and ALL the others. It's gone after 40 seconds. Don't give up!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Hey Sharky, take a listen to First Ideas from Frost/Nixon. What do you make of those harmonies starting at about 6:50?
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 First couple are CmM9 (11) in various voicings. Then Ab9 (#11), then Ab (9,#11), Dsus9, Bb9 (b13), Bb9 (b13)/D, BmMaj7, BmMaj7/D then finally Eb (b5,b6,9).These kind of Barry-esque chords make me think Zimmer would do a fantastic Bond score, if given the chance.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Heh, just wait, Nolan will get his chance. I'm interested lately in these kinds of moments, where he gets really harmonically adventurous for his style.
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Hunt them out, then name them in this thread.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Off the top of my head, my beloved Science & Religion, the rousing middle section; there's nothing very complex there, but it's a pleasingly rich departure from his more overtly Germanic sound. The climax of his little ditty for the Interstellar trailer is similar, with those scalar ostinati. A lot of the stuff in Man of Steel, especially the very first chord (or is it a full minor scale clotted together?) of the score which tickles the ear so wonderfully.
Jay 46,241 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Pharrell’s new album G I R L features Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, and Hans Zimmerhttp://consequenceofsound.net/2014/02/pharrells-new-album-g-i-r-l-features-daft-punk-justin-timberlake-miley-cyrus-and-hans-zimmer/G I R L, which drops March 3, follows up 2006′s In My Mind and sees Pharrell collaborating with Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, JoJo and even Hans Zimmer, the Oscar-winning composer. Zimmer was reportedly charged with the record’s string arrangements — which, judging from the album trailer, are plentiful.
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 We have trailers for albums now?
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Is this a trailer, or is this a trailer for a trailer?
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Really like this kind of cross-pollination between musicians in different "fields."
hornist 1,261 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Can't tell how much I love this. One of them was even sweating.
Sir Hilary Bray 235 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Think the Rush OST is likely the only Zimmer I'll ever buy. For now at any rate.
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I think the time has come to close this thread.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I think the time has come to close your face!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Spoken like a devout Zimmer fan!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I listened to Inception and Minority Report back to back today. Where's KM so he can read that and vomit?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I listened to Inception and Minority Report back to back today. Where's KM so he can read that and vomit?I think you are a dickhead for saying this!
KK 3,313 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Well, it's true. The Lion King back in 1994 was my very first CD purchase. So, for better or worse, HanZ started it all. Hanz did the same for me with The Da Vinci Code. You aren't alone my friend!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Inception complete score - it's labeled as recording sessions but might just be ripped from the Blu-ray or something.http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0SpkMXzIPMeC60GvCQlyzjT9GwG3gmkr
Jay 46,241 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 No, the recording sessions leaked a while back now
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Wonder when the same will happen for MoS.
Richard P 5,302 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I want Lone Ranger, if only for a couple of extra cues.I'm hoping the film bombing will make the sessions less valuable.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Golly gee, is this the most balls-to-the-wall, hyper-masculine, outrageously fun cue Zimmer is responsible for? I think it might be.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSSTy7_eNHo Gnome in Plaid 1
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 All the aspects of Zimmer I despise rolled into one overlong cue.
Muad'Dib 2,059 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I've always liked the part at 3:51 with that rockin' cello.... And the little moment at 5:02 when the rythm goes crazy is quite cool; but yeah, overall there's a moment where it gets boring.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Yes, that moment is the end!
KK 3,313 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Yeah, this isn't the Zimmer I'm particularly fond of. The real fun stuff is in At World's End.And that's not Zimmer's most hyper-masculine. Look no further than King Arthur for that:
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I actually like this track. If I remember correctly Zimmer himself admitted he overdone this one..Karol
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 King Arthur's not a bad listen. I agree that World's End has better action sequences. But that one is so damn fun.
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 My favourite action/masculine from Zimmer (in his "classic" sound) is this one: Karol
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 That's wonderful. Hard to believe it's the same composer.
KK 3,313 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Yeah, great cue Karol. The Peacemaker, now that's a whole lot of fun.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Another headbanger. http://youtu.be/kX4nSppRoVI
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 It's alright, but the bass sequences get a bit monotonous.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 He's not a showman. Can't blame him.
