I got mine for around $108 from the Marketplace about 2 years ago. It was the first thing I bought with my first paycheck. Definitely worth it to any fans of the band, the set is a complete joy to dig through. The only thing that's missing is the LP replica of the BBC Sessions, which costs twice as much as this set on its own. How The West Was Won live album is also not included, there is enough squeeze room to fit both into the box, however.

Fans of Queen should also check this out.

All of their albums are being remastered this year, I believe. I pre-ordered this set, but don't know if I want to cancel. I looked through and none of their greatest hits are on these albums. I'm not that big of a fan.

Eh, since the BBC Sessions weren't originally released on LP (they first came out on CD in 1997), it doesn't bother me that it isn't in the box. Same with HTWWW. Its a perfect box of all their studio albums.

ORDERED.

Thats a cool set. Too bad I have all of their cds already, actually all but Houses of the Holy.

Interesting. The European box is bigger (has room for the remaining albums to be released later this year) and has the Queen logo only on the top and bottom, so when I put it in my shelf, it just says "Queen" in the typical font, but without the logo. Plus it's missing the poster (no big deal).

Are you kidding? A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races are among their best albums. And you can't tell me that at least Bohemian Rhapsody isn't among (not only) their all-time greatest hits.

Anyway, I don't have much to compare them to - my only two original Queen CDs before this box were Night at the Opera and News of the World, plus FLACs of some of their other albums. After some rough comparisons I didn't notice much of a difference to the other releases, but I can say they do sound good to my ears, and the bonus tracks are fun.

I'll be picking up the rest of the remasters to fill the box.

I don't find the first two albums that strong (though both have their highlights). But Sheer Heart Attack has some cool stuff already, and the other two are, without stretching the term, masterpieces.

Never heard of it, Alex. What's it like?

Acoustic, soft, melodic, intimate, wistful, nice, superbly recorded.

excerpts

Yes, Thor, I too was intrigued by the cover. ;)

Thanks. Pretty chill, laidback, acoustically driven music, similar to Belle & Sebastian. The female vocals were a bit Björk-like.

Not something I would be likely to pick up myself, but probably works great as background music on a hot summer day.

"Background music" as in 'not interesting to pay attention to but nice as aural wallpaper'? Well, that's not how I see it but I guess it might function like that as well.

That's how I use all of my music. "Something to listen to in order to block out the sounds of the outside world while I do something else, like work, drive, bathe, read, study, or play computer." People who listen to music for the sake of it either have way more time than me, or else better herbs.

Really? I listen to music and watch films in the hope that I would sense that there's more to life than just work, eat, make children and die. In other words, I want to be moved and affected by art, otherwise we might just as well be machines or animals.

Yes, a bit like that. That kind of singer/songwriter indiepop is not really my kind of music, but it's not UNpleasing either (and I'm a sucker for calm stuff these days), so it serves that purpose.

I love 'Tom Sawyer', always did, always will.

Alex - so open-minded to every musical genre, it's sickening.

Rush can be pretty good, although a bit too intense at times (same with some of Yes' output).

Like you, I'm very open to most musical genres from the dawn of mankind. Versatility is the spice of life! :)

I think I'd much rather listen to music than castrate myself, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

hyperbole

–noun Rhetoric .

1. obvious and intentional exaggeration.

2. an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”

For the record, I wouldn't mind giving Big Z a hug.

(And elephant dung is said to be a good source of fluid in survival situations.)

Bad music hurts only until you listen to something better to flush it from short term memory.

But cutting your wang off, that lasts forever.

For the record, I'd rather do those things in that order listed, so ... Hanzi better keep those hands in sight.

I keep hearing about this chick. That song is like #3 on iTunes, and everyday I work like 10 people bring up the album. Might have to check it out if you like it.

Both of Adele's albums are worth checking out. She's a powerhouse

From 19, check out Hometown Glory, Right As Rain, and Chasing Pavements

From 21, check out Rolling In The Deep, Someone Like You, and Set Fire To The Rain

Oh! I also really like her cover of The Raconteur's "Many Shades Of Black", which I guess was on the CD Single of the original song, or on the Deluxe Edition of 19

Not a fan of rock or pop music...but I am loving Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever."

And isn’t a digital remaster in an uncompressed format a contradiction in terms?

Sadly, yes. What a crock.

Posted

Not if the compressed format contains the remastered data which should be no problem.

The three Beatles Anthology 2CD sets have been digitally remastered...... and are only being released on iTunes

http://theseconddisc.com/2011/05/31/beatles-anthology-receives-a-very-digital-remaster/

Will cost ya $80 for the entire set. Ridiculous.

Lame. I'm happy enough with the original releases to not be too upset by this though.

Posted

Do you not know what The Beatles Anthology is? Not a single track on it can be found on their existing albums/singles (and therefore the mono/stereo remasters)

Posted

Oho. Well, I'm not dropping $80 if there is nothing to display on my shelf. I'll put that towards the massive Pink Floyd remasters.

Posted

Hopefully they release CD versions of the remasters down the road; It's stupid selling 2CD sets in clamshells in 2011. I think even Life After Death has been changed by now

Posted

High definition releases would be nice a la HDtracks.com. I mean, they talked up the sound quality so much only to limit the releases to CDs and AAC downloads.

I love me some 2CD clamshell sets.

..... really?

I was VERY happy when all 2CD sets started coming in jewel cases the same size as 1CD releases.
