Red 75 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 It's beyond me that we could have talked this much about Williams' great dark moments and not mentioned:- The Dark Side BeckonsThat's gotta take the cake. It's perhaps the most chilling, powerful 30 seconds of any of Williams' scores.Ray BarnsburyThat is one of the reasons why Return of the Jedi is the best Star Wars score.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 I consider that tragic, not dark in a chilling sense.
crocodile 9,724 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 For me ROTJ consists of many great moments that don't form a great score in the end.Karol
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 that don't form a great score in the end. It's no Empire, but that statement is ludicrous.
crocodile 9,724 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 But that's exactly how I feel about it.Karol
John Crichton 4 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 The first half of Jedi is a little hit and miss, but from the start of Battle of Endor on it's nothing but nonstop greatness that more than makes up for any possible weaknesses in the first half.
Ray Barnsbury 8 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 I consider that tragic, not dark in a chilling sense.Chilling, tragic, dark....they all apply, IMO.Ray Barnsbury

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Finally I can agree with joe again.
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Indeed.Barry's Abduction was the only piece of music that actually sent a chill down my spine the first time I heard it. No other composer, not even Jerry, has managed to do that.
Ray Barnsbury 8 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I came across this article tonight, and was surprised it hadn't been mentioned here yet. I guess it's not really big news, but I enjoyed hearing it. The significant portion: "When I asked him [Williams] why the latest Harry Potter movie didn't have John Williams music (much to the disappointment of me and my children), he explained: 'It was a schedule problem; ...of course I would have done it if I could, but it overlapped pretty exactly with Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and War of the Worlds. The Lucas-Spielberg relationship took precedence on my schedule, and I had commitments to both those films earlier on. I must sat I miss doing it.'"Could just be another typical diplomatic Williams response, but it's nice to hear that he didn't necessarily leave the series under worse circumstances.Ray Barnsbury
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Speaking of Potter...The little girls broke the internet today when Harry Potter lost more than just his broom in a photoshoot.Imagine how shocked I was to see Bandwidth Limit exceeded when I visited MuggleNet. And then I flipped to Leaky (as always, the more reliable source), and found out that no...JK Rowling hasn't died.

nightscape94 968 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 In terms of GoF, Williams said something similiar to back that up on "The Record Shelf" program in 2005. He said he was unable to do it because of scheduling problems, and he went on to say that one of his "colleagues" filled in instead. I don't remember the exact verbiage, but it was along those lines. But he did refer to Doyle as "one of his colleagues".Tim
King Mark 3,975 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 That still doesn't explain why he's not doing OotP...he has plenty of free time right now. It's weird that no further news on OotP scoring has surfaced, other than an old report that some TV composer nobody has heard of is scoring it.Lets hope the producers get nervous and ask Williams...it's not too late and not as set in stone as Doyle with GoF yet.K.M.
nightscape94 968 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Well, the director and composer obviously have a good rapport, due to their film collaboration history together. It is unlikely to think that anyone else would be scoring it at this point. Don't get those hopes up, because they'll just come crashing down Tim
Ray Barnsbury 8 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 And like you said KM, it's pretty much been proven that a Williams score doesn't necessarily improve box office results for the Potter franchise, so producers may be glad to not have to pay as much for what they view as a needless expenditure (awful as that may be!).Ray Barnsbury
Damo 0 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Basically . . . It really depends who directs the Harry Potter films. The chances are for John Williams to return to the Harry Potter films is these two directors:Chris Columbus ==> John Williams score Alfonso Cuaron ==> John Williams score
Red 75 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 If you can get John Williams to score your movie, then you'd best go and get him!
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I'm extremely curious as to how well our new-to the films dude will do.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 So am I.But when John Williams publically expresses that he regrets not being able to do a Potter film again, then not asking him back is maybe one of the greatest follies a filmmaker can commit.

Ray Barnsbury 8 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Dan Radcliffe is appearing nude in a play, and there were photos of him posted on Mugglenet (not nude, but close to it).Ray Barnsbury
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 So am I.But when John Williams publically expresses that he regrets not being able to do a Potter film again, then not asking him back is maybe one of the greatest follies a filmmaker can commit. But then think of it this way. Williams turned them down and basically said you're not as important and went on to score a more likely Oscar candidate instead, Memoirs of a Geisha.
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Dan Radcliffe is appearing nude in a play, and there were photos of him posted on Mugglenet (not nude, but close to it).Ray BarnsburyI don't understand.WHY stir up controversy when your starring in one of the most succesfull movie franchises of all time.Parents are bound to be upset, might boycott the Potter films, the produceer might start getting nervous...I say it wasn't a good idea IMOK.M.
crocodile 9,724 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Maybe he's just frustrated that he doesn't get any other parts?Karol, who doesn't care for Radcliffe, naked or not.

ChrisAfonso 237 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I guess he has to try and prove somehow that he has more range to his acting than just Harry Potter, lest he become Mark Hamill II.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 July 21st is the release date of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, its a Sat, which means well have our release party on Friday night of the 20th,its going to be an awesome time.Fun and a bit sad.
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Is that fully official,or it can still be delayed ?K.M.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 thats the official, its all over the news KM
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 If they were going to do it on a Saturday, why the hell not 07/07/07?Idiots lack any marketing ability whatsoever.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 it may simply be the earliest they can have 10+ million copies ready
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Joe may be correct, demand for this book is gonna be huge, possibly unlike anything we have seen yet.
John Crichton 4 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 July 21 is now marked on my calendar. This is so much more important that any movie release, the movies are really nothing more than a curiosity to me anymore. Still, I never thought that the movie and last book would come out so close together, but it's going to happen. I'm a bit worried that it might be Potter overload for most people.
Red 75 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I'm more worried about Potter fans commiting mass suicide when they realize that HP is over.
Morlock 12 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Well, the girls will, when JK kills him off. Than he won't be able to grow up and marry them......
nightscape94 968 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 In many ways, I'll be glad when it's all over. I'm curious as to what she'll do "Potter + 1"Tim
John Crichton 4 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I believe she's on record that she wants to dabble in some Agitha Christie-style mystery novels.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 the next big mystery about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is how long will it be. Since its the last I wouldn't mind 1000 pages or more. And JKR has said at some point she will tweak the novels, but I suspect she's already working on her next novel too.
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Does this mean she has finished writing Deathly Hallows,or writing on a deadline?K.M.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 she's finished because it take 6 months approx. to edit, and get ready to publish. and because this ones more expensive I suspect the lenght is impressive, which will bother some here, but not most of us.
nightscape94 968 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I wonder if they're going to do an alternate, limited edition, like they did with Book 6.Tim
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 and today we learn that JKR finished the book on January 11th, so that does give KM's question a definitive answer.
