Joey, the previews looked awful and offered no motivation for me to even bother wasting $10.00 bucks to see it.

well it's 6 bucks for the Friday matinee. Dave wanted to see it more than me. He was more interested but he too felt it should get a D. I'm sure there will be those who sing it's praises and obviously Lee will likely love it just because I didn't, and even if he hates it he'll probably still say how terrific it was. But again I encourage anyone who wants to see it go and make up your own mind. I'm really tired of film critics just telling people to stay home. I support movies and I will continue to go. I'll see my share of bad films and I will have those that are pleasant surprises.

I don't even listen to the critics.

We'll catch it when it comes to Netflix or DVD I suppose.

I enjoy reading critics views but I am put off that film critics would tell you to stay home and watch something old. I have time in my life to do both, and if I were a film critic I sure wouldn't be telling people to stay home.

what do those have to do with movies

After getting the expanded score this week I might have to break out Star Trek Insurrection tonight and watch it.

I've only seen it once and that's when the DVD was first released. The only Trek film I didn't see in the theatre. Never realized the final sequence aboard the collector was unfinished as far as SFX go.

Thought the blue was part the collector, didn't realize a major studio would be that lazy to release a major film with un-finished effects, regardless of budget.

Nothing. Although there's something in the Cosmos trailer that I've wanted to see in a film since I was a kid, but no filmmaker would listen to my pleas.

I do find the trailers for Elysium to be interesting. At this point in my life, I can't live on things like Breaking Bad only.

well it is the greatest show ever on television, except maybe the Wire.

I think I'm going to watch some 50's scifi film. Thinking the Deadly Mantis.

This seems to be disputed. Some on FSM say it's unfinished, others say it's not.

Well some actors really have no issue with it regardless of character. Tomei is nude in a lot of movies (and she's still got a rocking body), so is Kate Winslet.

I think Tomei started doing nudity only seven years ago. But yeah, she looks amazing.

Most European actors don't have a problem with stripping down for the job, but some U.S. ones are really prude about it. Everybody's different.

Morning Glory is dull snoozefest. Warm bodies is a great zombie flick.

Despite its fairly unique starting point, Warm Bodies is an even bigger snoozefest, IMO. I literally started dozing off after 5 minutes. At least, Morning Glory was occasionally funny and watching Ford cook on TV was touching.

Harrison was miscast in there. He has no chemistry with Keaton.

Yeah, well, you know who has great chemistry? Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. Yeah, science, bitch!

True, Ford had more chemistry with Rachael McAdams but then she had no chemistry with Patrick Wilson! It's a very, very average romantic comedy but I didn't hate watching it like I did Warm Bodies. That last one felt too much like a film for young teenager girls.

Wojo, it's not fair to compare film with TV these days. ;)

You call that science, bitch?

Speaking of Patrick Wilson, I watched Insidious again last night. Back to back with The Woman In Black.

Yo bitches quit arguing already!

Watched The Wizard of Oz at 6am this morning.

Masterpiece.

RE: Elysium

My brother said it had some redeeming values but overall not too good. Said it was like a video game in that it had upgrades and boss battles.

The Simpsons Movie

Saw this last week with a group of about thirty kids. They were given a number of titles to choose from and an overwhelming majority chose this one. I was surprised to see The Simpsons is still this popular. I guess it's because it's not really targeted directly at kids, so the movie never talks down to them. I wonder how many of them have seen the show though. I'm not even sure it's still on tv here. Had good fun watching this with this group.

I haven't seen it there in a while, so I don't know. Fuck Comedy Central btw for messing with their aspect ratios. They even squash the frame a bit so they don't have to chop off as much. For fuck's sake, why even spend time on this when you can just air the thing in its original aspect ratio and be done with it? Asshats. [/rant]

I have yet to see it on Comedy Central.

I think Fox and F/X have shown it a few times.

My apologies, with the advancement in cable TV technologies I thought you were referring to the US Comedy Central.

I didn't realize you had your own Comedy Central.

It's a mixed bag.

It has South Park and Futurerama, it will also shows movies and and stand up routines, even from comedy clubs. It also has original programing, which can be hit or miss.

Is The Daily Show still as big as it used to be over there?

Posted

Yeah I guess so, although Stewart is on a leave of absence.

John Oliver is hosting it until Stewart returns.

Is Mel Gibson the perfect candidate for Columbo: The Movie?

Yeah, could have been Mel Gibson, Mel Gibson and John Corigliano...

Better to stick to the excellent BBC original with poor young Bob Peck.

Alex

no, only Peter Faulk is Columbo.

incidentely Steven Spielberg directed the first episode of the series of that show.

Despite everything he certainly is a presence on screen.

Yeah, what is it with Aussies and their incredible onscreen presence? Jackman, Crowe, Ledger, Rush...

The Muppets

It's a bit uneven, trying to balance the story of Gary and Walter with the original Muppets re-enacting the plot from The Blues Brothers, and it sometimes loses itself in being just a bit too bright and happy. It's nice to see the Muppets back in a movie though, and I will always enjoy seeing this kind of puppet work. The cameos are a hoot, too. Watch with kids or just for nostalgic reasons.

There just are too many painfully stupid moments in it, sadly.

The trailer were cool, yes.
