IrishCal24 0 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 No comments regarding 3.5? What, did you guys just quit watching the show?
Trent B 354 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I've lost intrest in the show. I also think too that moving the show to a Sunday slot might have killed the program...
John Crichton 4 Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 I have certainly not lost interest, I just haven't been commenting. I thought that the second half of last year, with all the stand-alones and flashback eps, was a bit weak up until the finale. Fortunatley I've experienced no such diappointment this year. The first two eps after the hiatus were absolutely wonderful, and this past week's was rather good for a stand-alone. I still don't get the change to Sunday, but as Sci-Fi has ordered a 4th season things seem to be fine with the suits.
ST-321 42 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I've lost intrest in the show. I also think too that moving the show to a Sunday slot might have killed the program...Actually SciFi.com reported that their ratings had gone up on Sundays:Battlestar Renewed For Season 4SCI FI Channel announced that it has renewed its Peabody-winning original series Battlestar Galactica, ordering 13 new episodes. Production will resume this summer in Vancouver, Canada, with an eye toward a January 2008 premiere. The decision comes after the series' successful move to a new 10 p.m. timeslot on Sundays. Since moving, Battlestar Galactica's audience has grown over its third-season average by 8 percent in total viewers, by double digits in female viewers, by 19 percent in the show's target demographic of adults aged 18-49 and by 14 percent in adults 25-54. The Jan. 28 episode, "Taking a Break From All Your Worries," delivered 2.5 million total viewers and 1.6 million adults 18-49, the largest audience for any episode since the season-two premiere."We're thrilled to bring Battlestar back for another season," Mark Stern, SCI FI's executive vice president of programming, said in a statement. "This series has delivered on every level, from the writing to the acting to the production values. SCI FI is proud to be the home of the best show on television."The series is from NBC Universal Television Studio and is executive-produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Its cast is led by Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. Battlestar recently returned with the second half of its third original season, immediately following SCI FI's newest original series, The Dresden Files."While we never had any doubt that SCI FI would get behind a fourth season of Battlestar, it's thrilling to finally make it official, and for Ron and I to continue using this great genre to investigate the darker corners of society, politics and humanity," executive producer David Eick said in a statement.I am still watching it and enjoying it very much. It is the only current run TV show that I watch.
Greg1138 3 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Indeed,Greg - still enjoying it immensely.....
GoodMusician 66 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Anyone else live in the Orlando area and went to go see Jamie Bamber and Mary McDonnell at MegaCon?I went with some friends... I got Mary to sign picture for me...and snapped a quick pic of Jamie... (soooooooo hot)Actually, they both were. Mary McDonnel is so petite in rea life...the makeup on the show gives her such strong cheeks, but she is really...quite gorgous in person... Great hair...And what can you say about Jamie hmm? lol...::He had a notice written in pen on his name thing that read "Yes, I'm from England and I talk funny." lol!Great people...Margo Kidder was there too... but she left early... must have forgotten her purse
Greg1138 3 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 ......and a quick Happy Birthday to the good Admiral......Edward James Olmos turns the big 60 today..... (If I didn't, he'd probably blow me up or something.....)
GoodMusician 66 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I'd say throw you out an airlock, but that's Roslin's hing
ST-321 42 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Season finale: Excellent episode! The final 5 are revealed. Too bad we have to wait until frackin' 2008 for the show to continue. What's up with that?
GoodMusician 66 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I know! ...Oh god... I just nearly died when it said that...as for the final five... wow... I must be one of the them because frak, I hear music like that all the time in my head lol... I was like "So what... you hear music ooOooO " :-PMy friend commented that Ron Moore must have been high when he wrote this "Lets make the final five go crazy with... with... music! Only they can hear it!And and and... lets make it the most random characters!and... hmm... Lets pull one character out of almost complete obscurity (after killing billy) and make her one!"lol... Oh well...I use to Love Roslin... but she has finally grown into the character Ron Moore originally wrote her as and I kinda feel ... uneasy about her... I hope that before she dies, that they can bring her back to who she was before...
pete 1,327 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 So who was the fifth? Was it Tye's wife???Great episode... and there'll be a 2 hour special before the end of the year. And yeah 2008 for the series... doh!Bear McCreary just posted on his blog that he's about to start putting the season 3 CD together for an August release.
macuser02 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 speaking of battlestar galactica season 3 just a heads up to anyone whose interested there will be a season 3 score cd released this summer~
SomeNewGuy 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 It certainly seems that Starbuck is the fifth cylon. I loved the scene in which the other four realize the truth--it seems ridiculously absurd that they're cylons, so there's bound to be a drastic shift in how we understand their existence. Kudos to the writing team. 2008 can't come soon enough for me.As for the score release, I don't really see the need. The music of season three was mostly uninteresting to my ears (however, if I've missed something good, I'd be happy to hear any suggestions you guys have). That cover of "All Along the Watchtower" was awful, by the way. The strange music ought to have been a composition of McCreary's along the lines of Passacaglia, Allegro, and The Shape of Things to Come.
John Crichton 4 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 Season finale: Excellent episode! The final 5 are revealed.Or are they? Are they the Final 5, or are they something else? What does it mean to be a Final 5, is it different from other Cylons (which is something Ron Moore hinted about)?I loved Kara's last lines. I figured she'd be back, and knew it was her when Lee picked her up on DRADIS. Still, her "I've been to Earth line" floored me. Those are the kinds of answers I've been wanting ever since she was "killed" (which I figured was a big swerve). My only concern is that there's too much going on right now, there's: Kara and Earth, the Final 5?, the Roslyn/Sharon/Caprica shared dream, Roslyn's cancer, the Adama boys relationship, the Adama/Roslyn relationship, Baltar's aquittal and his new cult-like followers, and...oh yeah, the human and Cylon fleet are staring each other down with nukes loaded again. 2008 can't come soon enough.
GoodMusician 66 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 You forget, Baltar was in the Opera House too ;-)I wasnt very impressed by the music eaither, but I may have missed something so I'm still gonna get it.I want it out on DVD ! So I can watch the ones I missed heh...and just keep refreshed hehAs for the Final Five... I still don't quite understand them eaither... I think there was something about how the Cylons refuse to talk about them... but past that I don't know what to think.
GoodMusician 66 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Ok, so I just found this out:The song they sing on the final episode is called "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan... most noteably performed by Jimmie Hendrix.Now... remember, Chief said it was a song that he kinda remmebered from "Childhood."Kara says at the end she's been to Earth.Perhaps she doesn't mean she's just been ther eand back, and will escort them to Earth...But rather, she (and the other final 5) had been there as children...dun dun dun lol
The Real Deal 0 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Absolutely bloody loved it......great TV that has made me go back and start at the very beginning and watch the whole lot again......can't wait for the next season - so many questions......My only real nagging doubt about the series as a whole is that it seems to be starting to drag....don't get me wrong, it's still better than 98% of other stuff on TV, but I just feel as though things should start drawing to a close now....I can't see it doing a 7-Season run a le Star Trek etc, and would much rather see this go out with a bang after 4 or 5 seasons of pure quality....
John Crichton 4 Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 I must say I'm glad to see all the positive reaction here, the stuff I've been reading around the 'net has been overwhelmingly negative about both the finale and the second half of season 3 in general. I've read "jumped the shark" so many times that the phrase has lost all meaning. But I guess that's the internet for you. Personally I thought the show hit a bit of creative dead spot in the second half of season 2, after wrapping up the Kobal arc and the Pegasus eps, before the great finale, but I have not been disappointed at all this year.and would much rather see this go out with a bang after 4 or 5 seasons of pure quality....The scuttlebutt is that now the show has gotten a full 22 episodes for season 4 (s1 was 17 counting the mini as 4, and s2 and 3 were only 20) that next year will be the last. Ron Moore himself has said that the show is entering the final act.
GoodMusician 66 Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 apparently, this next season is this last season. The writers are ending it. That's why it's been kinda dragging I think. However, they are apparently planning a spin off about Lee's Grandfather and about the creation of the cylons ...aptly named "Caprica."
John Crichton 4 Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 However, they are apparently planning a spin off about Lee's Grandfather and about the creation of the cylons ...aptly named "Caprica."That's pretty much on the shelf right now, but maybe it'll get revived after Galactica ends. I think it'd be better if they weren't trying to do both at the same time.
GoodMusician 66 Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 yea, but imagine the crossover. They could have used footage from one in the other...especially Lee trying Baltar lolOh well
Trent B 354 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Battlestar Galactica is being canned.http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070601/tv_nm/...lhqxGFcRpTMWM0FI couldn't find the original thread that Joe started... sorry...but ya the 4th Season will be it's last season...
SomeNewGuy 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 This is good news. I love BSG, but dragging it out too long would be terrible. Story-wise, this is the best way to wrap it up.
GoodMusician 66 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 yup... kinda known this for a while. I think it was mentioned in the BSG Apreciation thread. I love the show, but they are wise for ending it where they can and not dragging the storyline out... it was so well written that I don't see how it could be nearly as entertaining as what's happened so far.It saddens me, of course, but I think it's for the best as well. The actors are all going off and doing so many great things. Katie SHackhoff is doing two new shows now... "Bionic Woman" and another one... and in "Bionic Woman," like half the cast is in it too:Baltars Lawyer guy, Chief Tyrol, one of the Deck hands who was a New Caprica police officer and was the last one to be actually thrown out the airlock does a small cameo, and of course, Katie as a mad, bad girl who's upgrading her whole bdoy and becoming synthetic... cool story... great acting... can't wait for it to be picked up.But yea... the actors are being put out there and are getting real jobs and it's cool... so I'm really glad for them...seeing them around makes me very happy...
Greg1138 3 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Yeah - it was mentioned in the old thread about the 4th season being intentionally the last - and to be honest I'm very glad about it....nothing worse than a great show being dragged out beyond all reason - so here's to the final blockbusting year.Nice to see a little news about the special later this year too....Greg
John Crichton 4 Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 I've been expecting this news, in fact hoping for it. As Ron Moore said, you get the real feeling at the end of Season 3 that the show is moving toward the conclusion, and to artificially stretch it out would be silly. But there is one thing in the reports that have been confusing me: it's being said that the Pegasus movie is going to be counted as the first two episodes of the 22 ep season, when before it had been said that it was being produced seperately?John- wondering when there's ever going to be an announcement about the S3 DVDs
Greg1138 3 Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 John- wondering when there's ever going to be an announcement about the S3 DVDsSeptember 3rd in the UK...

ST-321 42 Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 I have the scores to the miniseries and season 1 and I must admit that I really love some of it, but can't stand listening to all of it because of the stuff that is just too out there for me. That's why I didn't pick up season 2. I think I'll save my money for the DVDs.
John Crichton 4 Posted September 10, 2007 Author Posted September 10, 2007 The drums! The drums! And now both the Pegasus TV movie that's yet to air and the S3 soundtrack have gotten release dates before the S3 DVDs. Welcome to bizzaro world.
Greg1138 3 Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Yay - just for once us Brits got the season 3 DVD's before you lot!!! Huzzah!!Greg - who's BG DVD collection is nicely up to date, ta.....
pete 1,327 Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I have the scores to the miniseries and season 1 and I must admit that I really love some of it, but can't stand listening to all of it because of the stuff that is just too out there for me. That's why I didn't pick up season 2. I think I'll save my money for the DVDs.The miniseries score by GIbbs and the two series CDs by McCreary are really two entirely different things. If you enjoyed season 1 tracks like The Shape of Things to Come, A Good Lighter, Passacaglia and Wander My Friends, then I'm sure you'd enjoy the season 2 CD. And there are several other tracks that I really enjoy, the 1000th landing, and the Battlestar Muzaktica and The Dinner PartySeason 2 CD has some great tracks as well, Prelude to War is one of the most intense and exciting pieces I've heard in a long time. Lords of Kobal is a great song, and Something Dark Is coming is a track I really enjoy. Plus the Pegasus music and reprise of the Good Lighter theme with chorus are all worth repeated listens. Plus the arrangement of the original Battlestar theme is nice.Hey, we all have differenet tastes, but if you enjoyed parts of season 1, I think you'd enjoy season 2.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 The standouts of Season 2 for me are all the tender material and the ominous ones, not the action. Season 2 to me is far superior to Season 1. Bear really did research the cultures he used as foundations. "Baltar's Dream" - Can you say creepy/frightening? "A Promise to Return" GORGEOUS!"Allegro" - The best take on the Passcaglia theme so far"Martial Law" - Probably the only use of brass outside of the Colonial Anthem....and it kicks serious ass"Lords of Kobol" - How many times does such a cue work so well?"Something Dark is Coming" - OMINOUS! Fits the scene (teaser of the season 2 finale) perfectly!"Epiphanies" - Heart wrenching stuff"Roslin and Adama" - Probably my favorite theme in the series, a truly beautiful love/friendship theme"Gina Escapes" - Another ominious gem, love the instrumentation in this one....because it works so well. "Dark Unions" - Awesome take on the Baltar theme"Reuniting the Fleet" - Great take on A Good Lighter, you can feel Adama's emotions in this one"Roslin Confesses" - Another gorgeous piece of work, dark on a very subtle level, truly heart-wrenching. "One Year Later" - Such a mood shift in the episode, and a wonderful take on the passage of time, with dreadful strings in the background. Clearly Season 2 is not quite as heavy on the drum-beating, as you can see. And the oddball: Prelude to War, now that's how action music for Galactica should be written. The drum beating is obviously present, but in such a different and amazing light, the strings are quite energetic, make you wanna get outta your seat.Season 2 to me is eons ahead of Season 1.

Thanks!
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 http://www.soundtrack.net/features/article/?id=243First Listen! Sounds even better than season 2...which up to now had been my favorite.
SomeNewGuy 0 Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Oh, I cannot tell you how happy this has made me.
ST-321 42 Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Thanks Blumenkohl! I am headed that way now.
Trent Hoyt 13 Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 For a TV show, this is some great stuff. I'll be picking this one up to complete my collection.
John Crichton 4 Posted October 11, 2007 Author Posted October 11, 2007 That's all well and good, but personally I'm more exicted about this:
SomeNewGuy 0 Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Wow. Hadn't seen that... looks like it'll be a hell of a ride.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 The signed copy from Dark Delicacies came in yesterday....and I love it! Initial fanboy gut reaction: Best BSG soundtrack to date.Love Violence and Variations! Love every statement of the Lee/Adama themes!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Initial fanboy gut reaction: Best BSG soundtrack to date.Isn't that like saying Syphilis is the best sexual transmitted disease to date?
SomeNewGuy 0 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Maybe if Syphilis caused you to piss fine wine and crap gold nuggets...Just sayin, that's what happened the first time I listened to BSG Season 2. No lie.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Sounds painfull....
