Xander Harris 9,675 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 The NYFF reactions did nothing for me.If only our own Quint, Alexcremers, Koray, myself, etc. could have had access to the premiere.
Jay 46,244 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Don't forget a streaming Q&A with Spielberg and Daniel Day Lewis starts in 10 minutes here:http://movies.yahoo.com/lincoln-live/
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 LOL "Let me welcome Steven speilberg and (cut to clapping)"
Xander Harris 9,675 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I stopped listening. Boring interview.
Sandor 918 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 John Williams’ music has never been more restrained or beautiful, and the movie looks great.http://www.showbiz411.com/2012/10/08/spielbergs-lincoln-wows-ny-film-festival
hornist 1,261 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 John Williams’ music has never been more restrained or beautiful,That's impossible. Someone already saw the score and said it's bad.
publicist 4,650 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 That never was a hindrance for winning an Academy Award. It seems rather helpful, actually...
King Mark 3,975 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 yeah, probablyThat was a glowing review but we saw those for War Horse too and it wasn't that great a film
Incanus 5,890 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Thusfar Williams' score has garnered both positive and negative comments. Some critic found it obtrusive enough for her to start throwing popcorn on the screen and this newest thinks it was restrained and beautiful. There's perceptions for you.And Spielberg claims the film isn't finished yet at 2h 20m. Obviously there will be some tweaking of the movie before release, hopefully for the better.
Incanus 5,890 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 With the third part: There and Back to Peterson House Again
Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 damn... deleted scenes... if williams has already composed the music...let's hope those end on the OST CD (and the academy promo contains all the music used in the film )
Henry B 51 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 News on the recut. Not Mr. Big and crocodile 2
Hlao-roo 390 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Don't you find it unnerving that so much energy in film journalism is expended on a given film's potential Oscar fortunes rather than the more enduring values and interest to be had in considering a film in terms of its mise-en-scene, performances, music, sound and connections to broader movie traditions ?It happens. You look at the political coverage in this country, especially right now, it tends to focus on a day by day handicapping of the horse race rather than a sustained focus on the substance of the issues. It's easier to write about and easier to read about.
Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 News on the recut.for two lines i thought it was a real story...But 'onion' as a site title smelt fishy XD
Hlao-roo 390 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 You've never read The Onion?I think the readership is concentrated largely in North America and the UK.
crocodile 9,724 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 It's the only news worth reading, in any case. Except maybe for The Daily Mash.Karol
JamieC 13 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Hi gangMoviescope magazine , issue 31 is out at the end of this month. It'll feature an interview I've done about the postproduction sound on 'Lincoln'. www.moviescopemag.comThanks so much.James

Xander Harris 9,675 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 The footage online was better than the interview they featured.
indy4 160 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Wow, I wasn't expecting JW to get any screen time. Cool! Here's the whole segment: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50133579n&tag=contentBody;storyMediaBoxI like how he says Lewis was his pick for Lincoln from the beginning.
mrbellamy 8,244 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 He technically was. Spielberg apparently went to him first, but Day-Lewis declined, so then Spielberg went to Neeson. When Neeson dropped out, Spielberg went right back to Day-Lewis: http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/movies/9400119-421/spielbergs-double-feature-war-horse-tintin.html
chinaismine 64 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Some stuff on 60minutesovertimehttp://www.cbsnews.c...tingLeadStoriesCool! Always great to see and hear JW at the piano.
KK 3,313 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Yes, that was great! And its great to see Williams on the piano!
Wojo 2,458 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 He technically was. Spielberg apparently went to him first, but Day-Lewis declined, so then Spielberg went to Neeson. When Neeson dropped out, Spielberg went right back to Day-Lewis: http://www.suntimes....rse-tintin.htmlRight, because this project has been in the works for so long, the man who played Lincoln in "...Vampire Hunter" wasn't born yet.
russds 8 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Great clips. So fun to see new SS and JW stuff, thanks for sharing! I might have missed it if it weren't for this forum. The score seems to be growing on me. The simple piano melodies, sound great! They remind me of Copland and the Shaker Melody from Appalachian Spring.
Popular Post Jay 46,244 Posted October 25, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2012 I found out who shot Lincoln Not Mr. Big, Muad'Dib and Joe Brausam 3
Incanus 5,890 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I would say that is very good spotting of posters.
crocodile 9,724 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Haha!Karol - who's seeing Skyfall tomorrow morning
Wojo 2,458 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Anyone who gets bored enough to check Yahoo news all day, like me, will have seen this, but for those who don't...Sally Field had to fight and beg and plead with Steven to let her stay on as Mary Todd.http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/sally-field-steven-spielberg-won-t-let-walk-190803228.html
mrbellamy 8,244 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Hollywood Reporter review: "An absorbing, densely packed, sometimes funny telling of the 16th president's masterful effort in manipulating the passage of the 13th amendment."
Hlao-roo 390 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Hollywood Reporter review: "An absorbing, densely packed, sometimes funny telling of the 16th president's masterful effort in manipulating the passage of the 13th amendment."It'll be interesting to tally up how often Williams's score is referred to "subdued" or "restrained." The last time critics described a Williams work in those terms was 2005, when Spielberg and Kushner teamed up to make Munich. This time, I expect the corresponding film to be more warmly received, and perhaps so, too, will Williams's score come awards time.
Maurizio 6,913 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Very good review, it really gives me much hope for the film.

It seems to haunt the critics' memories, Williams pastoral music ringing in their ears as the warning bugle against big scoring.
publicist 4,650 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 True. It seems to haunt the critics' memories, Williams pastoral music ringing in their ears as the warning bugle against big scoring.I suspect it's more the swelling americana schmaltz of WAR HORSE's big emotional theme which might indeed cause to rise some stomach juices in conjunction with images of a blinded boy trying to find his mare while stumbling through an army of brawny but teary-eyed WWI soldiers.
Incanus 5,890 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Yes there is a a slight chance of saccharine overdose right there.
Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 i weep for the horse, who was neutered...and became.... a mare?
Incanus 5,890 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 That WWI barbwire is awful stuff. Horsey should not have run blindly into so much of that stuff.
publicist 4,650 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 i weep for the horse, who was neutered...and became.... a mare?You only got the cut version? Poor spaniards...;
crocodile 9,724 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Yeah, it's nothing like the hardcore R rated version.Karol
Incanus 5,890 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 All those blood and guts and nudity! The horror, the horror!
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Nudity? I guess the bonding theme meant something else entirely! alicebrallice 1
