Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Well, we must first answer that question. Is there enough matter to close the universe, or not?
nightscape94 968 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Basd on the number of Frank Zappa albums, yes. Code 000. Destruct. 0. 1
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Anybody else besides Jay and I been listening to Turn Blue?
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 I'm enjoying it, but it's in the same vein as El Camino, which is a pretty big departure from their early blues sound. Much prefer their older stuff. They're going on tour and are playing two shows in my area. Gonna try and go to one of them.
Bespin Copilot 10,817 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour will turn 90 on May 22.
nightscape94 968 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Too me, a little Morrissey goes a long way. I enjoy some of The Smiths stuff, especially Meat is Murder.
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 For me it's tied between The Queen is Dead and Strangeways Here I Come. Moz's best solo record is still Bona Drag.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Oh come on! They can do a deluxe set of The Division Bell but not Animals?
Jay 46,241 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Maybe they are waiting for an anniversary ending in 0 or 5
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Oh come on! They can do a deluxe set of The Division Bell but not Animals?Seriously. Post-Wall Floyd is not Floyd!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 So do I, and it's nice to have Rick Wright back, whose presence I think is more vital than Waters' quite frankly. But it still feels off to me. I'm just too sentimental to be able to fully enjoy their later stuff as an incomplete group.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 It's a nice enough album overall, but High Hopes is one of the best Floyd songs.
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I have to stop listening to The Division Bell because once I start, I can't stop. I think "What Do You Want from Me?" is my theme song at work.
Naïve Old Fart 13,020 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 "TDB" is musically better than "AMLOR", but it sounds like shit! Also, "One Slip" rules!!!!!!!Still, I'll get the 20th immediately, if only for the 5.1.mix. That's 4 "immersion editions" in the space of 5 weeks, and each at about $130. Phew!Rich (who's still trying to get hold of the DYOL of "Terminal Frost". Grrr!).
A24 5,154 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 The Division Bell is a Gilmour solo album. In my humble view, none of his solo albums are any good, not even:
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 You don't think they have their occasional high points?
Naïve Old Fart 13,020 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 The Division Bell is a Gilmour solo album. In my humble view, none of his solo albums are any good, not even:"About Face" is good. The two songs that he co-wrote with Townsend are good, as is "Let's Get Metaphysical". "Cruise" is wonderfully cynical.Still, neither is as good as "AMLOR".
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Sting talks about writer's block and stuff. Fine chap.

Bespin Copilot 10,817 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Pretty proud of this new Aznavour Complete Collection, as I contribued a little bit to it. In a career spanning over 60 years, Charles Aznavour that just turned 90 few days ago, has recorded in seven languages, sold over 100 million records, wrote over 1,200 songs, played in 80 movies and performed thousands of concerts around the world. This 32 CD collection reunite for the first time all the recordings from his french original discography.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I first listened to WIlliam Shatner's Has Been a few years ago and really liked it, and have revisited it at times, but recently I've really been coming back to it a lot. Shatner, along with Ben Folds, crafted a wholly unique and infectious album that touches upon life, society, and celebrity worship in a very interesting way. It's perfect from beginning to end.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 As a big Folds fan, I really have to check this out someday.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 What albums would you recommend from him? All I know is his work on Over The Hedge and this, and I think a song or two.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 For Ben Folds Five, my starting point was Whatever and Ever Amen, though I think their latest album would also be a great introduction: From his solo albums, Rockin' the Suburbs and Songs for Silverman should both be great places to start.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I actually just came back from finally seeing the Rolling Stones live in concert. I don't plan on dying anytime soon, but I am one step close to dying in peace now.
Wojo 2,458 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 You should never listen to any music ever again, to preserve the awesome sound embedded in your short term memory. Marian Schedenig 1
Quintus 6,493 Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Anyone else ever think a really good backing track is spoiled by the lyrics? Love the arrangement, much prefer it without the Olly Murs vocal. And another stunning arrangement:
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Yep, all the time. But I def wouldn't choose those songs, although the Coldplay (shudders) one has got more going for it.
Naïve Old Fart 13,020 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Anyone else ever think a really good backing track is spoiled by the lyrics? Love the arrangement, much prefer it without the Olly Murs vocal. And another stunning arrangement: Steve Hackett thought that about "The Lamb..." That's what led to him injuring his hand in 1975, right before the start of the tour.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 A couple of Lady Gaga tunes fit into that category I think. Incomprehensible shit spewing from her mouth, but interesting arrangements.
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 A couple of Lady Gaga tunes fit into that category I think. Incomprehensible shit spewing from her mouth, but interesting arrangements.Have you read Owen Pallet's analysis of Bad Romance?http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/culturebox/2014/03/lady_gaga_s_bad_romance_owen_pallett_explains_the_pop_diva_s_genius_using.html
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I prefer Poker Face and especially Alejandro, but that's interesting. And it's nice to remember that she actually writes her own tunes.
mrbellamy 8,230 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Apparently this is old news, but "Weird Al" Yankovic's new album Mandatory Fun will be released July 15th: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/weird-al-yankovic-returning-with-new-album-this-summer-20140615Rumor has it that Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," Lorde's "Royals," Pharrell Williams's "Happy," and Imagine Dragons's "Radioactive" will be parodied. 8 music videos will also be released.
Wojo 2,458 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Radioactive has to be the second most overplayed song of the last three years, second only to that Gotye song that everyone and their brother already beat Weird Al to. It was crying out for a parody.
Jay 46,241 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I think Somebody That I Used To Know will be in the polka
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I'll have to check this one out. Bad Hair Day is one of my most played cassettes!
nightscape94 968 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 My first introduction to him was "Dare To Be Stupid" when I was a wee lad watching Transformers: The Movie. I owned that cassette tape, as well as "Even Worse". Good times. Really talented guy. I'm both surprised and happy with his longevity.
DreamTheater 131 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Earlier I was listening to an album by Porcupine Tree, a band I had never heard of until a couple of days ago, on the recommendation of a couple of members here. The album is Signify and it's totally up my alley. DT will always reign supreme, but PT sounds fresh and cool all the same, and their songs are a bit shorter to digest. I'm going to check out some of their other albums, and I'm sure I will make some purchases later on.Thanks dudes!
