Williamsfan301 12 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Score studyingLooks like how I learned music theory in college. Music and a very stiff drink...
Ren 77 Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 It was very nice to get out. I had just started my martini. I should take an after photo of my mark ups for the song. ;-)When I sit and drink, studying scores, it's absolutely sublime. Music playing through my head and finite picking apart of individual nuances.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,387 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 You told me that you didn't drink last night?
Ren 77 Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 I didn't. That was after 1pm.....check your texts!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,387 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Them why do you carry her features around in ever post, Lee?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,387 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 You must like the dull ones then.
Williamsfan301 12 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 This is stupid! I wanna talk about octavos!!
Maglorfin 219 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Here's a great piece by a young Slovenian composer I've performed with several youth choirs already, the last performance being only yesterday! I like this. Could you tell me a bit more about it? Its not from a film right?Sorry, forgot to reply! No, it ain't from a film, it's an original composition, I think it was written for Slovenian youth choirs' festival (that's why there are so many singers - those are best Slovenian youth choirs combined). If you ever decide to maybe try it, I can give you the composer's direct contact, I know him well and he's a really nice guy, I'm sure he'd be thrilled to have one of his pieces performed in the US. The lyrics are in Slovenian however but maybe they could be translated (Sonce in reka means The Sun and the River).
Ren 77 Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 No I haven't I actually wrote down the contact info last night.
Joe Brausam 234 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Ren! I'll be starting very soon as a middle school (grades 7&8) choir director/general music teacher. If you have any advice or suggestions for winter concert repertoire (sacred music is okay) for that grade level I'll be all ears! I'm primarily an instrumentalist, so this is treading some new ground for me. I obviously will have to feel out the ability level of the group before commiting to rep for the winter concert, but any advice is much appreciated!
Ren 77 Posted September 14, 2012 Author Posted September 14, 2012 Yay! I will type up a long response today Joe Brausam 1
Ren 77 Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 When I'm at the hospital today i think I'll be able to answer this a bit better. Papoulis is a great composer who's music is energetic and contemporary sounding. Handels alleluia is a little difficult but a winner. We try to stay in the 3part mix voicing. They always love doing a contemporary song, one they have heard of. Imagine is great and not hard. Get the version that starts in G and goes to a flat. Look at local festival lists. Mac huff isn't a great arranger. I try to find versions where sopranos and altos have their own line. An easy holiday song is Feliz Navidad arranger by gallina I believe. Ose shalom by leavitt is great. Excuse the typos I'm thumbing it on my phone while nursing. I never make the guys sing too low and I'll copy a song, highlight and rewrite a part for them if needed.
Ren 77 Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 Well, I'm not talking about choirs right now. Just teaching. Today in general music we threw out the lesson plan and discussed some "scary music" which they then proceeded to play on keyboards. It was great fun to hear them all playing the Bach toccata and the twilight zone.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,387 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 That's very cool Lee.
