nightscape94 968 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 It's a filmed play basically. Dat ending tho.
Jay 46,241 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I liked the bulk of the film but thought the ending was weird and tacked on
Not Mr. Big 5,011 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I'm fine with the ending apart from the tacky theater announcement scene. Lincoln's ending speech in combination with the statement of "With Malice Towards None" makes for a beautiful and poignant moment.
Jay 46,241 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Yes ending with the speech is fine, but including the assassination aspect of his life story when the film was never about his entire life but only one specific time was jarring an unnecessary IMO.
Taikomochi 1,460 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Especially when the film had that perfect final shot, with the Trumpet Hymn playing over it. And then it just keeps going...
nightscape94 968 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 It was inexplicable. Both Kushner and Spielberg should have known better.
Popular Post filmmusic 3,269 Posted February 12, 2016 Popular Post Posted February 12, 2016 Just finished it. I had no problem with the ending whatsoever. Very good film, and very moving at times. It is tragic to see what people thought back then about things that are common sense now, like the equality of people of all colors. It reminded me of the debates and endless quarelling and strict attitude nowadays about the equality of people of different sexual orientation (just very recently our Greek government legalised the same-sex union). Well, here's to another 100 years when this thing will be considered common sense eventually. Once, Scarpia and Taikomochi 3
