JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Americanized in which why?Maybe you make your pizzas in a particular way and just assume everybody else does it your way.Americanized in that a typical pizza from Papa John's is not gonna look or taste the same as one you order in a pizzeria in Italy.Papa John's is not a particularly good pizza. they fk it up by putting the cheese on top of everything, Serious mistake. that allows things to steam under the cheese and makes for soggy pizza. It's not quite as bad with meats but with veggies it's a culinary crime.Mushrooms and onions just weep liquid when placed under the cheese.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 It's my favorite out of all the chain pizza places - Papa John's, Domino's, and Pizza Hut.Although I haven't had Domino's since they redesigned themselves. Costco has decent pizza, but only when fresh. The best pizzas I've had have been from local places, particularly Vince & Dominic's and La Pizzeria, the latter of which was taken over by a Popeye's
KK 3,313 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Pizza Hut is just awful. All that grease on the pizza, its absolutely disgusting.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 NY Pizza is just OK. Domino's is decent and cheap.
Brónach 1,330 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 So I¡m going to have breakfast now. I have, eh, milk. Kiwis. Chocolate. Muffins. Meat. Tomatoes. Green pepper. Rice. Let's see what I do with all this.

Papa John's, Domino's, Pizza Hut, NY style - It's all SHIT! No Chicagoan worth his moustache is ever going to touch anything that wasn't made by the family owned pizza place on the corner. And, unless it's deep dish, pizza must be cut in squares, not triangles.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Domino's is not true New York Style Pizza, which I prefer over Chicago deep dish.there is just too much stuff on a chicago style pizza, it's not really pizza in my opinion, It's something else entirely. I can eat it, but nothing beats a real New York style thin crust Pepperoni pizza, except maybe a plain cheese, or a pepperoni and mushroom.
Wojo 2,458 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Thin crust pizza isn't pizza. It's a cracker with cheese and sauce.

You should try some of the pizzas they make in Italy. When I was there last, I was at some random restaurant in Pisa (coincidence folks). And God knows why, but I ordered a seafood pizza or something. And it had everything on it! Squid, crab, shrimp, etc. all put on top of one pizza. Couldn't finish it, but it wasn't bad.

Seafood doesn't belong on a pizza I am eating.Gyro meat is great on a pizza too. Dessert pizza's are not for me.thin crust wojo, America's most popular style, now the edge can have a good bite on it.
Wojo 2,458 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 "America's most popular" doesn't cut it for me, man. I can't honestly believe it works for you, either. When I eat thin crust, I feel like I'm being punished. It's not what I grew up on and it's not an acquired taste that I really want to pursue. I had to work to like coffee, beer, and sushi. Thin crust? If I'm starving, but honestly, no thanks. I like my pizza slices thick, greasy, and flavorful. I'm not on a diet and I don't care about impressing anyone with my gut.
avalanche 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Breaded chicken, cous-cous and some microwaved vegetables. Semi-homemade goodness, I say!

Brónach 1,330 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 My ideal choice is a 2 cm crust with lots and lots of stuff on it.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 Still not convinced about that.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 Gyro meat is great on a pizza too. After the collapse of the Greek economy about 70% of all Gyro meat has been made from etiher horse or dog meat!
hornist 1,261 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Pizza is at best when it's thin and crust. And not too much stuff in it. maybe 3-4 fillings, carefully chosen.Damn I need a better owen to make real pizza.

When I make my own it's hand tossed simply because I cannot make a decent thin crust.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 eating pizza is always best with someone or several someones, but then I rarely get the kind I want.
Datameister 2,586 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Tonight, I'll probably be eating chicken noodle soup from a can. If anything at all. I've got a cold. =/
Datameister 2,586 Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Thanks, the chicken noodle soup was good, at least!
Datameister 2,586 Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Tonight, I think I'll eat chicken noodle soup...mixed with chicken vegetable soup. Whoa.
hornist 1,261 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Sounds ...hmm interesting... sorry is this some kind of burger?
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 ground hamburger and gravy over toast.its actually quite good but it's an old US Navy recipe, name is gross, but it's a quick and easy supper. We actually had white rice and toast.
Wojo 2,458 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 That's why they also call it simply SOS because it doesn't carry the poopy connotation.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 my dad always used the full name. I suppose we could make jokes and rename it KOTCS or HZ
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 really I forgot his dislike.I'm heading to Little Rock this weekend where I will hit the farmers market early Saturday morning, that before I come home I will hit my favorite oriental grocery stores. Little Rock for a medium sized city has a diverse ethnic mix. While we lack a decent bakery at all, no Jewish or Lebanese bakery, we do sport a decent Lebanese/Mediterranean grocery, lots of Mexican grocery stores, a couple of very good oriental grocery stores, and a fantastic Vietnamese store(I know it falls under the oriental grocery but they are specifically Vietnamese), you can get some awesome prepared French/Vietnamese food there.Anyways I am going to buy the specific items I need to make Hot and Sour soup, and Vietnamese spring rolls with rice paper. I can get regular egg roll wrappers anywhere but I also want the spring roll wrappers that are for frying. I have been fortunate to have experienced great Chinese food from one end of the country to the other side and in LR thanks to our surprisingly extensive Asian population I can find wonderful Chinese food in LR and thanks to the Vietnamese Boat people being relocated in Arkansas I get great Vietnamese food. However in my neck of the woods the Chinese restaurants are terrible.Usually the saving grace of any Chinese restaurant is their egg drop soup and eggrolls. If they cannot produce edible versions of either then it's usually a lost cause. I'm more forgiving with Hot and Sour soup because it's a much more complex soup.So I must master Hot and Sour soup. I could eat it almost daily. I could switch on other days to egg drop which I've made a decent but not great pot or two in the past. I can whip up terrific fried rice, eggrolls, pork wontons, and dumplings in my sleep. Now I just need to make satisfactory soups.
Xander Harris 9,673 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Kraft Macaroni and Cheese with skim milk.
Ren 77 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Yeah, I've been scrounging and I had macaroni with cut up cheese sticks...
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Chinese. Power was out for a whole week, so the fridge and freezer are literally empty. First time I've ever seen that in my house.
Ren 77 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Koray, I'm sorry. Insurance? We lost power for three weeks during the ice storm and it was incredibly horrible. Especially for January in Maine.
alicebrallice 134 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 blood pudding and lingonberry jam. mmmm, been craving it for a while.
Ren 77 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Alice I LOVE lingonberry better than cranberry....i've only had it with swedish meatballs though. What else do you suggest?
alicebrallice 134 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 at ikea, I presume? lingonberry jam goes perfectly with lamb (lamb meatballs e.g.), moose & reindeer meat. if you ever come to sweden I'll make you proper swedish meatballs with taters and lingonberry jam!
Ren 77 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 We got moose! Actually I get it at the Swedish goods store in town.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 What do I get if I come to Sweden?
