#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,387 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I wonder how JW used the accordion in this score. Did he do it subtle, like in POA's "Squeeze Play v.1" or did he really use it as a solo instrument? It's just called "Squeeze Play."Why not call it The Knight Bus, so people know what the hell you are talking about?
King Mark 3,975 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I hope the accordion stuff is really minimalWe got enough of it in The Terminal
Incanus 5,890 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I hope the accordion stuff is really minimalWe got enough of it in The TerminalI suspect Williams will use the ethnic instruments much as he does in the Indy scores, providing some colour for the locales and characters, not as significant solo instruments. He mentioned how he loves the little travelogue style map montages in Indy and coming up with the suitable musical suggestion of the destination he is travelling to. I am sure it will be much like the Chinese flourishes at Club Obi Wan in ToD or the brief sitar moments when Indy arrives to India. But it could be that Haddock possibly has his own sea shanty theme with accordion adding some buffoonery to his character. And I think if used well it would fit quite nicely.

Incanus 5,890 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Well if you want to count the percussion ethnic, which it is in ToDs case, but furthermore possibly annoying then you are right. But I was referring to the more exotic things than pure percussion. Sitar, while a nice touch would have been quite agonizing if JW had say chosen it as a solo instrument for the whole score. This was KMs fear and that is what I was trying allay meaning that we don't probably hear the accordion on every other track.
Brónach 1,330 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I think accordion is a very appropiate choice for this score and I loved it in The Terminal.

Quintus 6,496 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I'm really hoping for an accordion concerto over the end credits.

Incanus 5,890 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Thank you Jason for that small detail regarding the accordion. KM can sleep in peace now until the score is released. Well at least on this aspect of the music.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,387 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Isn't an accordion more associated with France rather then Belgium?
Sedohr 0 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Isn't an accordion more associated with France rather then Belgium? What's the difference? They're both in Europe, right?
Sedohr 0 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Yes...But yeah, accordion is more French or Italian, for Belgia you should use chromatic harmonica.
Incanus 5,890 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Isn't an accordion more associated with France rather then Belgium? It could be used for some scenes for Haddock in the film, who is a sailor, and to whom the instrument is also very often associated. And hey Belgium is near France. Local European color.

And hey Belgium is near France. Local European color. Isn't Haddock supposed to be Scottish, in the film version, anyway ? Serkis' accent in the trailer tell me he is. I even think he presents himself to Tintin as "McHaddock", in the trailer.Nah, he has french roots. His great-great-great-grandfather was called "Hadoque". He is the captain of the "Unicorn".

Dropping hints is making me too impatient!Nice to know Haddock has received classic JW woodwind comedy music.
Once 1,083 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 That was not just a hint, that was information! Yay, thanks Jason!
Jilal 681 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Ooh, so the theme played at the beginning of Tinker-Tin is Haddock's theme?
SF1_freeze 138 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 It's so close now and not even a tracklist -.-
Jay 46,244 Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 I know! Every single day I search various retail outlets for glimpses of the soundtrack being listed, and there's nothing.Surely any day now we will get some news

No news and the film is released in Europe in about 6 weeks.
Jay 46,244 Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 It's quite odd. Maybe Sony Classical won't be releasing the OST in Europe until December either?

Maurizio 6,913 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 It's quite odd. Maybe Sony Classical won't be releasing the OST in Europe until December either?Unlikely, I guess. I should contact my own sources at Sony Music Italy and ask them if they already know something.
Josh500 1,620 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 It's VERY unlikely, especially since the movie is released (except for in North America) worldwide in October/November.
King Mark 3,975 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 War Horse is for pre-order for DECEMBER and nothing on the TinTin OST?
Hlao-roo 390 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Maybe Tin Tin is like the Sugarland Express and Williams doesn't want it released.
