Brónach 1,330 Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Pfffft. Not a fan. Portuguese blows it away. And of course the grammar awesomeness of Basque cannot be surpased by Catalan lol
Damien F 2,079 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 It is a very difficult question to answer because there is so many excellent non-Williams scores of various different style, but JW is by far my favourite composer. I live in Ireland and he is the only composer that I am willing to travel to America to see in concert, and I have done so twice (Tanglewood in 2005 and New York in 2011). Hopefully, I'll see a third concert in next year.
hornist 1,261 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 This is an old thread and I'm surprised that t didn't bring my exhaustive answer.I'm am primarily a JW's fan, a fan of his film scores, a fan of his concertos and mostly a fan his musicianship/personality.

Koray Savas 2,260 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 To me this question is kinda like, would you rather have the 1% or the 99%.
alicebrallice 134 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 don't hate the poll! hate the votes!
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Quoting is the art of those who have nothing to say.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Yeah I do it all the time. If someone says something I agree with, I just point at him and walk away.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 I don't know any other way to walk.
Brundlefly 2,402 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I cannot answer this question. I'm primarily a fan of John and Jerry. I prefer the both guys over every other film composer combined. There are a few more film composers that really know how to compose. But why should I listen to Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman or even James Horner without the context of the film, when there are Stravinsky, Wagner, Schubert and so many other real composers... It's a revelation! There are many interesting threads on pages 11-19!
Thor 9,362 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Two recent trends on the board -- people seem to be a) angry and b) bored.
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Not necessarily bored. Just a "new" member checking old threads out of curiosity. Nothing wrong with that.

Fancyarcher 351 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Definitely film music, though like anyone John Williams was my first real gateway to said format. 2 hours ago, Brundlefly said: But why should I listen to Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman or even James Horner without the context of the film, when there are Stravinsky, Wagner, Schubert and so many other real composers... Real composers? They're not wax dummies I'm assuming.

For the longest time I thought Ladd McIntosh was just the synth software Zimmer used to compose his music on. Think of my surprise when I found out he was a composer and arranger.
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Inky isn't always good at humor, but when he's good, he's pretty good!
