Lurker 5 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 I'm not always right, but this year has been terrible for movies.Neil
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 Return Of The King will make everything OK again, trust me.Stefancos- who knows Neil disagrees anyway.
A24 5,155 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 Return Of The King will make everything OK again, trust me.Stefancos- who knows Neil disagrees anyway.I don't know about that. Last year The Two Towers failed to make things OK too. I'm not waiting for a FX spectacle to make my movie year. ----------------Alex Cremers
Rogue_Leader 2 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 Return Of The King will make everything OK again, trust me.Stefancos- who knows Neil disagrees anyway.I'm with Stefan on this one! This movie has the potential to make all of the let downs from this year seem less despressing. Between this and Master and Commander 2003 may yet be redeemed. Lets just hope Jackson got ir right and wrapped up the third film properly. I think at the very least this will be a damn good movie, it certainly has the potential to be a great one.
'Sirius' 0 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 I still haven't seen Finding Nemo (not in the theathers yet). Is it really THAT good? After seeing the trailers I thought it was fun but nothing breathtaking.I agree with Stefancos: ROTK will be THE film of the year (though I think TTT wasn't as good as FOTR, all interviews say ROTK was THE film PJ wanted to direct in the first place, and believe anyone who says this will be the best part of the trilogy).Sirius - who also thinks this was a bad year for movies, and X2, though had a few flaws, was the best one so far, and also liked Heartbreakers.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 TTT isn't as great as FOTR, partly because there were more useless changes in it, partly because the novel simply doesn't have some of the aspects that make the first and third part so special - but I don't see how it could possibly have those, and there are other things I like about it that aren't much in the other parts.Anyway, I have no doubt that ROTK will be clearly the best of the three films. It combines the advantages of FOTR and TTT plus so much more.Marian - who just pre-paid his Finding Nemo DVD.
QMM 4 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 I'm very confident that Jackson will pull it off.I'm even more confident with his next movie which will be a remake of King Kong, take that LOTR
Rogue_Leader 2 Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I dunno about the King Kong remake. Sounds like a dumb idea to me personally, but I guess it could work.
A24 5,155 Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Yeah, seems more something Roland Emmerich would come up with.(Low voice) From the director of Stargate...The Patriot...Independence Day...Godzilla...comes ones again another epic story...(now in superbass)...KING KONG!!! Soon in theaters everywhere. Now that I would believe...but Peter Jackson? That's a bad move.----------------Alex Cremers
ridan 0 Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 ROTK will make the Movie year bright. heck, with so many bad movies this year, ROTK has a chance to make a few awards from the biased academy judges.

Kong is just one of those films that belongs in a certain period of time. King Kong belongs to the 1930s just like Planet of the Apes belongs to the 1960s and Day The Earth Stood Still belongs to the 1950s. But I respect Jackson as a filmmaker that I will give him the benefit of the doubt, pending my viewing of the trailer.

Justin 2 Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 I viewed Terminator 3 last night. Overall I did enjoy the film although I think the plot could have been more thought out. The beginning is simply too much of a T2 rip off. My biggest problem with the film was the visual effects. In T2 far inferior technology for creating graphics works far better than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kristanna Loken flying all over the screen to so obvious and pitiful graphics it makes one cringe. I thought I was watching The Matrix. The actions scenes on a whole were very well done except for that bathroom scene. Enough CGI can the actors act? The first car chase was very well done but still fell below any of the chases in T2. The ending I thought was surprisingly good. Overall a fun ride but simply pales in comparison with Cameron's original vision.Justin
QMM 4 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 I just saw the trailer for the Polar Express. I was surprised that it would be a CGI movie, I'm a little turned off by it but it looks like it may turn out to be a good movie. Tom Hanks of course puts in good work with any movie.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Enough CGI can the actors act?You are aware that you're talking about a Schwarzenegger movie, right?Marian - LOL
Morn 8 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Hey Marian, you do realise that by insulting Schwarzenegger you're insulting your countries honour I recently saw MASH, a cool war movie that's quite original and meaningful.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Hey Marian, you do realise that by insulting Schwarzenegger you're insulting your countries honour Arnold Schwarzenegger is an American.I recently saw MASH, a cool war movie that's quite original and meaningful. It's great, though it's basically Animal House set in wartime Koreo.Stefancos- who loves Animal House.
Morn 8 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Arnold Schwarzenegger is an American. Yeah, hehe, well Austrian American at least But Austrians tend to be proud of him. What is Animal House?
Lurker 5 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 It's great, though it's basically Animal House set in wartime Koreo.Since M*A*S*H came first wouldn't it instead be "Animal House is M*A*S*H at a college fraternity"?Neil - who loves Animal House but cannot sit through M*A*S*H
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Hey Marian, you do realise that by insulting Schwarzenegger you're insulting your countries honour Only the ridiculous part of it.Marian - who doesn't admire the Styrian Oak. American Journey
Justin 2 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Just got back from seeing Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World. And I'm gonna start right off and say. I loved it. For those of you who are tired if the Hulk/ Matrix use of CGI and are looking for good character development with a story that isn't simply an excuse to see cool looking CG ships this is for you. A fantastic romp through the seven seas!Justin -Thinking best movie of the year.
A24 5,155 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Death of a Salesman with Dustin and so many other great actors who all are giving top notch performances. Malkovich is real. Yesterday I saw it for the third time but this time I premiered it on DVD. Unfortunately, the quality of sound and image is rather poor but watchable. Btw, music is by Alex North. I still have to watch the 82 min (!) "making-of" that's featured. ----------------Alex Cremers
Morn 8 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Cool, Alex Cremers, that score is an extremely subtle and fitting masterpeice. North was obviously very inspired and who wouldn't be. One of my favourite movies. North actually refused to score movies he didn't think were good btw.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Cool' date=' Alex Cremers, that score is an extremely subtle and fitting masterpeice. North was obviously very inspired and who wouldn't be. [/quote']There we go again, confusing our appriciation of a score with the composers level of inspiration, you are much like Chris Clemmensen, Nick. One of my favourite movies. North actually refused to score movies he didn't think were good btw.Imagine if Jerry Goldsmith would life by that rule.Stefancos-
Morn 8 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003  Ohh dear me, no, it's clearly quite inspired, the level of subtleness.
A24 5,155 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 North actually refused to score movies he didn't think were good btw.No, imagine if John Williams lives by that rule! Now that would make a fine topic.----------------Alex Cremers
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 I saw 28 days Later last night. A nice little horror film, though hardly scary.
ST-321 42 Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Just got back from seeing Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World. How was the music for the film?
Ollie 1,375 Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Saw Looney Tunes Back In Action, I thought Space Jam was better.Actually when Bugs and the rest of the Looney Tune characters are on their own the film picks up but when the live action takes over the film isn't funny. Very disppointing.
QMM 4 Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Space Jam, do your dance at the dance at the Space Jam! Alright (echo) 8O Max-Knows he got the lyrics wrong
King Mark 3,975 Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 I started watching The Sixth Sense, but I'm alone and it's the middle of the night right now,so i'll watch the rest later,it's scary.K.M.
Justin 2 Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 Just got back from seeing Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World. How was the music for the film?A very restrained score. Lots of classical music. Overall I thought the music was fantastic. See the film before you buy the score though. They go hand in hand.Justin -Who has this at the top of his wishlist.
Lurker 5 Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 Master and Commander was an excellent movie. It's probably the best new film I've seen this year.Neil
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 I just got back from the theatre. I finally saw Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. There were some mindboggling effects in this one. I really liked it. Lots of adventure. But a little too few drama. So I guess it was a bit shallow, but damn good fun too.- Marc, wondering why this film didn't have any opening logos.
Morn 8 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Master and Commander was an excellent movie.I recently acquired that, shall be the next movie I shall talk about here. I had figured it would be a stupid naval historical Crowe movie, but then I read comments by biologists on it which made me highly intrigued. Plus with Justin going on about it being his favourite movie this year on MSN, heh.
A24 5,155 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 A biologist who never saw a movie is likely to be very impressed. That tells a lot about opinions, doesn't it. If you are in doubt whether to see a certain movie or not, then you better wait and read 10 reviews from different sources. Then make up your mind with the information they have given you. I know I will not see this movie in theaters. I will watch it on DVD.----------------Alex Cremers
Morn 8 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I'm not going to go to that much trouble to merely decide if I want to see a movie, heh.
A24 5,155 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I'm not going to go to that much trouble to merely decide if I want to see a movie, heh.Now who was it that said:As long as there is an easy audience they'll keep making easy films. -----------------Alex Cremers
Morn 8 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Who? But, an easy audience just accepts bad films, I don't see how that comment is relevant here.
ocelot 565 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I just saw a review for ROTK (actually a few days ago) and it said it was like waiting all those years for the next Star Wars only to be given Phantom Menace????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????OK, Good, no one has read this yet. I wanted to say that I didn't think the film was out for review yet and now I can't bloody find that review to put a link to it. So if anyone finds it, please provide the link. I will do the same when I find it.
QMM 4 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 Somebody already talked about that review, I think we concluded that the reviewer was a idiot along with the fact that there's always that jerk reviewer out there.
ocelot 565 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 I hope so. Let's see what the others have to say...
Justin 2 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 I went to see Master and Commander again yesterday. It just gets better with every viewing. But the big cheese 'round here is the new TTT EX DVD! If you liked the original TTT then get ready folks for a film this is 10 TIMES BETTER!!! The ending wraps up the characters after Helm's Deep better, it has more humor, more action, more suspense, a fantastic expanded flashback with Boromir that gives unbelivable depth to the Faramir character. Simply put. WHY DIDN'T THEY RELEASE THIS MOVIE IN THE FIRST PLACE???? Stupid people and their "time limits" to movies. Justin -Who thinks TTT EX increases the worth of the original a lot more than the FOTR EX. In other words the FOTR original was a lot better than TTT.
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 I'm going to watch it today!- Marc, excited.
ocelot 565 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 If they had released this version, people would not have gone to see it as much. Simply put, it's far too long for the average person to sit through, only fans of the series would be able to do it and so the profits would not have been so great. IMHO of course.
Lurker 5 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 I saw Looney Tunes: Back in Action and loved it. Who would have thought that I could see 2 new movies in a week and enjoy them both?Neil
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 Just finished the EDE of TTT. Wow! Very cool stuff added, although I think Gandalf's speech about Aragorn bewing the last heir of Numenor was a little long and redundant. I also think they should have put the scene of Elrond in Lothlórien back in.But a lot of cool stuff anyway."This new Gandalf is even grumpier than the last" LOL- Marc
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Yesterday: Finding Nemo. I hadn't laughed that much in years. Even better than Monsters, Inc..Today: TTT:EE. I agree with Justin, the improvements are far greater than FOTR:EE's, just as I had predicted. Marian - who'll watch his new Once Upon a Time in the West DVD soon.
