Looks like Disney's moving forward with a fifth POTC film, as apparently Puerto Rico has been chosen to host production over Hawaii (where the previous film was shot). No word on director or cast members, but there's supposedly a November start date.

I'm probably in the minority, but I actually rather liked the last film.

I hated the two previous ones, as it felt like both of those spent their first hours wasting time before the actual story was introduced. This one got right down to it more or less and I preferred the less zany version of Deep's character. I'd catch it on Starz or whatever, but still don't have enough interest in the franchise to go to the cinemas to see one.

In my opinion each POTC film has been worse than the last

Posted

Well, Disney said that the fifth POTC is in production, but that the report is inaccurate.

Sounds like the site let it out earlier than Disney would like...

I loved Curse of the Black Pearl, liked at Worlds End, didn't care that much for #2 and #4 was okay. Can't remember either's sub title.

it seems that the next transformers film will not feature the past transformers do to falling sales of toys from the last film.

No Optical Prime, no bumblebees

Posted

Optimus Prime has been the consistently good thing about the Bay Transformers movies... fans would revolt if Optimus was kicked out. Now, if Bay is going for a Beast Wars type film with no human cast members -- I approve. But Optimus (and voice actor Peter Cullen) have to be in the fourth film in some form.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted

its not like you could tell who any of these robots were when they were fighting. they are all interchangeable and the actors voicing them are irrelevant.

Posted

Boy am I looking forward to this. I've never seen the musical though (but I've read the book).

My only gripe with this whole film is casting Eddie Redmayne as Marius. I never liked him in what I've seen of his work.

Posted

I agree, that looked great! Reminds a lot of Ray, visually at least...

Maybe an Oscar nom for Ford?

Posted

Still looks like overacting on Ford's behalf but it's good to see him play something different. Enlarging it seems to be appropriate for the character he's playing.

For it to be any reasonably good, it's needs to be seriously rebooted. A very mysterious, serious mummy movie for a grown-up audience, I wonder if it can be done.

Time to call Zack Snyder!

Kurtzman and Orci are producing so expect a train wreck with those retards.
Posted

what do you think I think it means?

Would you like to propose another word of description for me. I'm open to rewrites.

I did like aint it cool news' description of Kurtzman and Orci,

nice, smart guys who tend to make massively uninteresting movies

but smart isn't the right word.

It would be if her face wasn't disproportionate and didn't look like CGI.

Posted

What is disproportionate about it?

You do realize that's not Amanda Seyfried's face, and she's not even Dakota Fanning.

Posted

Yes I know it's not Seyfriend, I'm speaking from a physical point of view. Her features don't line up properly. It looks like her face is being sucked away from the top right corner, while her head remains still.

Posted

what the hell are you talking about, her face looks normal, the wind is blowing her hair just like the poster for the original musical production.

it's a beautiful reinterpretation.

Posted

I'm not criticizing the design, just her face. I don't know, to me her nose and right eye look weird in relation to her forehead.

Posted

her face is symmetrical, it doesn't look a bit like CGI. She is a lovely young lady.

Posted

Probably just me then.

I'm not a huge Nicole Kidman fan, but this looks like it could be fantastic. Plus Mansell is doing the music, looking forward to it:

Posted

That looks like 10 other movies I've seen before

Posted

Plot-wise, yes. A mix of Hamlet and some other horror films dealing with stepparents and whatnot, but visually it looks great. There are some superb shots in that trailer. My favorite is at :15.

Posted

With it stylized look, the compositions, the close-ups which make it look cool, the visual style is comic book-ish ... not bad. However, the music in the trailer is not good. It's what you've heard a thousand times before. Produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, BTW.

Oldboy was a fucking awesome movie. This movie looks like a piece of shit. Style means nothing if the story is shit.

You can still enjoy the storytelling aspect of it. A mediocre story can be captivating if the storyteller is a master. In Blade Runner, for instance, the plot has often been regarded as the film's weakest point.

Oldboy's story wasn't that great. Beginning was great, then it slowly fell apart.

Whaaaa? Never heard Oldboy described that way before. The entire movie builds up to the twist ending!

Posted

The ridiculously far-fetched final revelation takes away the pre-requisite suspension of disbelief.

It's a helluva stylish film though.

Speaking of which, not too long ago I saw a Korean flick- I Saw the Devil. Also thoroughly stylish, but a very, very nasty film. One may call the violence in this deplorable. But you can't tear your eyes away from it. One scene in particular will stick in your mind forever- the brutal murder in a moving taxi which is executed with stunning panache.

A warning to those who is interested in seeking this out: I'm not kidding about the violence. It's positively one of the most morally depraved stuff I've ever watched, and you get the feeling the filmmakers built the entire conceit of the film on these depraved grounds. A+ for technical filmmaking though.

I thought we discussed this briefly back when I saw it. I hated the final act, ruined the rest of the film for me.

My friend told me that there's a film called A Serbian Movie that is the most... eh, I don't know how to describe it but I assume violent and disturbing. He warned me to never watch it or to even read about it because I will never be able to remove it from my head.

Posted

Koray and I agree on oldboy, I'm probably harder on the film, and I've heard and read synopsis of A Serbian Film, it's utter garbage, It's child porn and the makers should be jailed. It's not art.

Posted

I've never seen A Serbian Film, but the thing with I Saw The Devil is that the filmmaking qualities are top notch throughout. The photography, direction, performances, editing. Ok, the story does get a bit too far up its ass like many Korean stories do, but the main fault (or strength, depending on your viewpoint) lies in its conceit of forcing the viewer into living with, and even appreciating, the moral depravity of it all.

True. But even a shit story for you might be a mediocre or even good story to me. Or are you going to name me 'ignorant' each time we see things differently?

Posted

No, only when you are being ignorant about facts. I know the difference between opinion and fact, you see :)

In what should be non-news, Sony announced that Andrew Garfield will return to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and confirmed Marc Webb will return to direct. Emma Stone is expected to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy, but she's reportedly "in talks" to confirm her involvement (i.e. negotiating for a higher paycheck).

I don't know if Horner will return for the sequel, but I'm pretty sure his theme will be used regardless.

With echoes of Taxi Driver and Fight Club, this award-winning directorial debut film from Blade Runner Special Edition producer Charles de Lauzirika sees a mentally unstable crime scene photographer spiraling into darkness, madness and violent vigilantism on the gritty streets of Detroit. Also features a fantastic supporting turn from Ron Perlman (Hellboy) as a grizzled cop whose seen more than one murder too many. - SoundOnSight
