I am seriously contemplating purchasing "Hook" now. I was watching that scene where Captain Hook is introduced, and I cannot get his theme out of my head!

I think that the first two are superior to the latter two. I find Dinosaur to be fun, but overrated. Peter Pan I like better, but JNH's best work to date are in those Shyamalan films (not the last two- those are good, but not up there, IMO).

Dinosaur is far from overrated. In my humble opinion it truly is one of JNH's best.

Good choice.

Morlock's right. It's overrated.

Nick! Why are you "umming and ahing" over Hook. You must get this album...now! And you're right, Hook's theme is catchy as hell.

While you're at it Nick, get the complete Concord boot of Hook as well

The Concorde boot of Hook is NOT complete

Yeah, but it's pretty darn close, and the sound quality isn't too bad.

I will stick with the official release. It is only about four American Dollars on Amazon.com! That is a wonderful bargain! All I need to do is ask for my mother's permission....

Not even Lady in the Water?

My favourite along with Kong.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

My brother is doing a total clean out of his room, and he found this CD that was a subscriber bonus with Nintendo Power. I think it actually might be pretty rare and worth a lot to the right buyer. Only recognizable composer for me is Koji Kondo.

Posted

There's an official CD of that? I thought the clips I once had somewhere on my harddisk were recorded off the game somehow.

Posted

There's also the excellent concert CD Smashing... Live!

Posted

Yeah, I got that in my Nintendo Power when I was...eight! Whoah, where did the time go? ( That is one awesome Disk, by the way.)

The Village is one of JNH's best. You've made a considerably wise purchase.

Definitely. The JNH scores that I most want to get right now are Unbreakable, Signs, Dinosaur, and Peter Pan, but there are still others that I'd like to get my hands on.

Signs is my favorite from that list, it is probably in my top ten scores of all time. But the others are good-great also.

That is one of JW's all time best scores.

Hook is simply amazing

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles

I got this in the hopes of something like McCreary's BattleStar Galactica scores. I was sadly disappointed. Much of the action music is just dreadful, which is pretty disappointing considering the action sequences were the high point of his BSG scores.

Still, I love Sarah Connor's theme so much it makes it worth it for me. My favorite usage of it is in "I Love You", the scene where John has to remove Cameron's chip, but she tells him she loves him to stop him. Wonderful first half.

I don't want to talk about "Atomic Al's Merry Melody" which is track 14. It's horrible. Just horrible.

I got my LaLa Land Batman The Animated Series and Short Circuit today from MovieMusic. Both scores (case and all) arrived in great shape. That's weird the case falls apart on some people.

Edit: Okay I take that back when I opened up my Batman set just now it fell apart on me after opening up to Disc Two...this is a first. Lucky for me I had a spare blank 2-CD case that I can put the discs and art work into.

As I mentioned in Hitch/Williamsfan301 land (sometimes known as Other Topics) I got Total Recall and The Wind and the Lion for Christmas. Happy days, indeed. ;)

I received the Prague Thomas Newman compilation for Christmas. Most tracks are pretty good, mainly a few orchestration blunders in a couple of tracks, and some tempo issues, but better than the average re-recording.

Also went to Brighton today (town on the south coast of the UK) and got the following in a 2nd hand place and HMV respectively:

For a Few Dollars More

Thunderbirds (original series, none of that Zimmer crap)

Williams 40 Years set

Goldsmith 40 Years set.

I pondered a while on the last two, but my Goldsmith collection is pitiful and I've never heard many of his so-called classics, and what better way than to get all the main themes/significant cues together in one set.

I've got a zillion Williams re-recordings, but the ToD credits track is in my 'ultimate' set (hence nice to have in lossless), and I've picked up many of the rest along the way somewhere in mp3.

I got my Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions OST CD's in the mail today. So now that set is complete. :P

I finally got the Blue Box this Christmas and all I can say is WOW! Each score is a revelation in terms of sound quality and each composer's respective achievements. Major kudos to the guys at FSM for taking the time to release these scores properly. I never thought I would ever be able to enjoy the sequel scores, but they really are masterpieces in their own right.

Superman: The Movie sounds superb and makes me realise just why this is one of Williams' best.

Superman II is really quite good, considering what Ken Thorne had to work with. His adaptation of Williams' original music is excellent and his music is as entertaining as ever for this film. I haven't properly listened to Superman III, but I do like the new spin on the Main Titles; it seems as if Thorne was given more room to do his own thing on this score and I'm happy for the listen.

Superman IV also sounds incredible and Alexander Courage really wrote something that both continues and expands upon the Superman musical legacy.

I'm still in awe of this set and so, so glad I decided to get it after months of contemplation.

I just ordered Doctor Who: Series 4 in a little post-Christmas Amazon buying binge. Unfortunately I didn't notice it was pre-order and I won't get it until the end of January.

Don't forget Ron Jones' scores for the animated show that was included. Some good stuff in there as well.

Father Christmas left me the following CDs:

Indiana Jones box set (Johnny T)

How to Steal A Million / Bachelor Flat (Johnny T)

The Kentuckian / Williamsburg: The Story of a Patriot (Benny H)

...and the following deluxe DVD + book:

Ennio Morricone Live In Venice

Kriss Kringle knows me so well!:D

I just received Man who Loved Cat Dancing from SAE .

Took 1 week to arrive instead of a month for the Indy box

Posted

That's going to haunt you the rest of your life, isn't it? (not that I blame you, BTW)

Posted

that wait for the Indy box was agonizing!

Now I think I have every Post 1970 Williams score release on c.d. (I don't count Tom Sawyer,Fiddler on the Roof and Mr Chips as real Williams scores)

Only a few 60's comedy score remain only in MP3 and cdr form.

For Christmas I received...

SILVERADO - Bruce Broughton

YEAH BABY!!!!

You can tell by the crosshh section.

I got the second Thunderbirds CD from Silva. I was originally going to just buy a few individual tracks, but at £5 per CD I soon saw the light...

I have finally filled the biggest gap in my Williams collection, and have completed the John Williams Academy Award Collection with my latest JW purchase: Schindler's List. It's my 54th JW soundtrack.

I also got Desplat's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, my second Desplat score.

And finally, so I would not be completely depressed, I brought in some bombast with Zimmer's Crimson Tide. It's my 12th Zimmer soundtrack.

Posted
Good purchases.

Except Crimson Tide, the most overrated Zimmer's soundtrack...

It's certainly an interesting way to divide up the tracks. 1 hour of music, divided into 5 tracks.

The Whisperers - John Barry

Ulees's Gold - Charles Engstrom

$2.99 each at FYE.

Ulee's Gold is stuck in my stereo. After finishing my first listen of it I went to eject it and the stereo tray won't eject from the system and proceeds to make loud clicking noises - I'm frightened that it may be destroying the CD in there. I know it's a cheap score to replace...but I really enjoyed it. I enjoy my stereo too, it's a good system. Guess I'll have to take it to be repaired!

Hey, the exact thing happened to me! Fortunately, though, it was only the "Shrek" CD, so I just considered it a warning instead of an actual problem. At least I had spare stereos....

Hey, Koray, what is stuck in your Playstation 3? It is not "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of a Patriot", is it?
