Jay 46,242 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 The Omen Trilogy Varese set. Why can't they put the total times on the back of their CDs like everyone else?
Morlock 12 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 They do with the club releases, at least. Got The Killer Elite, Synecdoche New York, the Matrix Deluxe Edition, How to Steal a Million, and the Indy Collection a couple of weeks back. Good purchases- I've been enjoying them all. I was surprised by how much I liked The Matrix, I never had a particular love for the scores.
Joe Brausam 234 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Received my copy of Twisted Nerve/The Bride Wore Black from Kritzerland.
indy4 160 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I just bought "Long Live Sacred Germany" on iTunes, which is the only cue that stood out to me when watching Valkyrie.
Andy 7,730 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I have been out of the game for a while, and just now received Intrada's A L I E N . It is absolutely wonderful to hear the music presented in such clarity. The liner notes are great, but surprisingly "taking sides" with Goldsmith over Ridley Scott for the editorial decisions. I do like the presentation as the composer originally intended, but a small part of me wishes they would have included the tracks from Freud as well, if only for historical reference.
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Actually someone just needs to release Freud.
Jay 46,242 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Yea it would have been silly to include the Freud tracks in the Intrada Alien set
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Yes. A release of its own would be welcome.
QMM 4 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Got the score to the first season of Mad Men. Great, great jazz music.
Morlock 12 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I really need to see that show. And The Wire. And the rest of Battlestar Gallactica. And Dr. Who. And Californication. And Dexter.
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Isn't this it?There has been no official release on CD, that one is a bootleg.
Jay 46,242 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I really need to see that show. And The Wire. And the rest of Battlestar Gallactica. And Dr. Who. And Californication. And Dexter.Start with Battlestar Galactica. Maybe you can be caught up in time for the final episodes (which begin airing next Friday, Jan 16!!)
Morlock 12 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Not a chance. I've only seen the first season, and I rarely find time for TV. It's far too time-consuming. And there are too many movies to see.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I still have an entire season of Battlestar Galactica to catch up.Isn't this it?It's a Tsunami, which isn't a bootleg in these parts as far as I know. But I think it's an older release of an older score, so they probably just did a direct LP transfer. In which case I'd rather wait for a nice, remastered version.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I assumed as much. I believe most Tsunami CDs are transfers of legit LPs?
John Crichton 4 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Not a chance. I've only seen the first season, and I rarely find time for TV. It's far too time-consuming. And there are too many movies to see.Funny, I have exactly the opposite problem.
MissPadmé 17 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 hey guys how is the last years issued Images CD? is the soundquality good? or is it just a LP transfer? Is it limited?
John Crichton 4 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Images is superb. Get it if you can, I don't know if there's any left and too lazy to check. I'm sure Mark's on it.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Sound quality is good. Limited to 2000 copies.
Henry B 51 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 hey guys how is the last years issued Images CD? is the soundquality good? or is it just a LP transfer? Is it limited? It's the same as the LP but it has been remastered from the source. Sounds good to me. You'd probably like it since you're into that holier-than-thou artsy stuff.

Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Sounds fine, very much worth having.
indy4 160 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 It's the most unique score I own, so I would definitely recommend it.
indy4 160 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Listen to this sample. This is how most of the score is.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 How is it "unique"?Half of it consists of a guy vomiting. Or at least that's what it sounds like.
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 That still does not answer my question. If I wanted to hear a guy vomiting, I would listen to the Pirates of the Carribean scores.
Morlock 12 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ...it also features one of JW's best string themes (without any vomiting).
Neimoidian 15 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Blood Moon gave me chills when I first heard it. Overall, I find Images a terrific work, much more enjoyable than I previously expected. As far as vomiting is concerned, only one track contains something like this. The rest is just grunting and respiring.
Richard P 5,302 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Since I didn't want a new duvet cover for Xmas and my brother did, my mum gave me £10 to buy something musical, so I used it as part of buying 3 digital albums:Freedomland - nice low key, synth heavy JNH score, but I like its ambience for some reasonBolt - extra value because I really like both of the songs tooBeyond Rangoon (guilty pleasure if ever there was one, but it was only £5)I'm on a bit of a roll - my 'legit' collection is growing fast, thanks in part to 7Digital/Play where I can buy individual tracks I like without having to buy the CD. There's masses more I would buy this way if only it wasn't unreleased My Thunderbirds CD hasn't even been dispatched yet (ordered 28th Dec), and Silva hasn't replied to the e-mail I sent yesterday asking what the hell they're doing... grrr.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Freedomland is an okay score. It's in the same vein of Dreamcatcher.Bolt is awesome.Beyond Rangoon is pretty good.EDIT: Oops, looks like you already listened to them.
Richard P 5,302 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Yeah, I've already listened to most stuff I download. I just like owning music more than I used to, especially now I work and have real money.Plus I never blind-buy even from my favourite composers - anyone can write crap.

Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Where is this used shop you speak of? Is it just something in your area or is it a nationwide business?
Joe Brausam 234 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The Princeton Record Exchange. It;s literally right across the street from the Princeton campus, which is just 20 minutes from my college and a little over an hour from home. It's just a local place, not a chain (unfortunately) - but the place is literally like a music mecca. This is the place...prex.com
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 In Dreams - GoldenthalThat's a cool score.
Charlie Brigden 7 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Just received STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE on vinyl, courtesy of Ebay.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 In Dreams - GoldenthalThat's a cool score.Define cool.
Joe Brausam 234 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 In Dreams - GoldenthalThat's a cool score.Define cool.As in probably the coolest one that I've heard in a while! A good mix of acoustic and electronic instruments gives it a nice texture, and the music itself is tense and interesting (from what I've listened through so far). I think you might enjoy this one.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Cool, I'll keep an eye out for it. I'm looking to expand my Goldenthal collection.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 It's a weird dissonant thing with a string quartet, saxophone and guitars. Interestingly, there's even a special Wikipedia article about the score.
