Do we know what ensemble performs on the Thomas and the King album? The CD liner notes are very scarce on the performer info besides the main cast.

In a word: no.

I don't suppose the principals are around to comment. Your best bet would be to contact John Yap at That's Entertainment Records, Kentish Town, London, or, if you want the 1975 cast list, contact Her Majesty's Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.

Also the CD doesn't mention the orchestra. Any idea about that?

This is the 1982 recording, and it was not conducted by JW. It was recorded in August 1981, if that helps (which it probably doesn't!).

Again, your best bet is to contact John Yap, who runs TER.

Right-o!

Because that is not his studio? He stole one? He has a plastic replica? It's a mystery for sure.

So, there's something titled "An Ewok Celebration" on this Ewoks bootleg:

http://starwars.wiki...28soundtrack%29

Listening to it, it seems to have a clean ending of Victory Celebration.

Has anyone else heard this, and can tell if it's legit (the recording, I mean)?

It's not just the OST edited to stop before the credits--there's a longer fadeout.

I suppose it's just a well done fan extension, but I had never heard it before and it sounds pretty convincing.

I have a question about that "An Ewok Celebration" track.

Where is the first instrumental version of the Ewok Celebration cue (0:00 - 1:36) from? Is it a JW composed version or something that was rearranged for one of the Ewok scores?

Posted

I don't know the CD you're talking about, but the only instrumental version of Ewok Celebration I know is on Gerhardt's Return of the Jedi album. I've always wondered where that arrangement comes from. It's gorgeous.

Posted

Yeah that's it, thanks :) . It is indeed gorgeous... question is if it was done by gerhardt or if JW wrote/provided it for him like the Han Solo and the Princess concert arrangement.

I would hazard a guess that JW provided him with the arrangements.

That's a very bad arrangement that don't match the original version and happily, no one has ever recorded it again!

Who pissed in your coffee today? What's the purpose of such a post right after two people say its gorgeous? JW himself probably rearranged it... whatever

Posted

The purpose is to express his opinion? If two people say something is gorgeous does that just stop the world, making it forever gorgeous and no one can ever say otherwise?

Posted

Slightly related and I probably should know this but what is the story with Victory Celebration? Did JW write and record it specially for the Special Edition in 1997 or did it exist before then?

Posted

and it was JW that wrote it yes?

Maybe it's not popular to say it but I much prefer it to Yub Nub. Love the bassline!

First, Gerhardt version is much too slow, and second, that's a song and so, it has to be sang.

This version sounds like a school rehearsal for a halftime junior Football game.

The SE VHS's had a feature before each film discussing the changes, JW was in the ROTJ one at 3:32.

Thanks! My copies of the SE in VHS were the second releases from 2000 I think and these features weren't included!

1st, tempo is always relative to the interpretation of the conductor, and 2nd its a SYMPHONIC SUITE CD, not a soundtrack.

To each his own Faleel. To each his own. Bespin just doesn't dig that version. I think I'll have to take another listen since it has been ages since I heard that album.

That's protools on the middle screen.... but is that Cubase on the other two? WTF?!?!

Posted

I didn't realize anybody used Cubase. I found it a bit annoying actually. Protools was definitely better.

3rd, the original Ewok song isn't all that great, so the symphonic version really makes the material shine.

I actually quite like the choral version, especially when the strings start to come in.

Exactly, and this very emotive moment is totally absent from the Gerhardt arrangement.

@Marian Schedenig

Do you know a conductor who would reprise Duel of the fates without a choir?

What you need to do is go back in time and prevent it from ever being recorded.

I will program the DeLorean this week-end, thanks for the idea!

Incanus, the other thing is to try to contact James Fitzpatric. He used to run TER records, before he split with John Yap.

Does anyone who composed the source music fro "Jaws" (the stuff heard on the radio during the third attack)? Also, does anyone know what tunes are being played by the Amity "beach band"?

Has anyone around here seen any Kusturica films? Because I have a couple of them but I don't know which one to start with.

I've seen Underground... which will be of absolutely no help to you as it was so long ago that I don't remember anything at all.

Is it okay for me to listen to the Home Alone scores now?

Yes. It is time!

Posted

Not before december

You need to start preparing mentally for the holiday season in November. What better way to do that than the Home Alone scores?

Posted

And thanks will be given to you indeed if you play Home Alone in your house on speakers 24/7.
