A coulpe of Spielberg questions I have been toying with:

1/ Is the "Schindler's List" CD complete, or is there unreleased music on the DVD? Does anyone have the 24crt. gold release, and does it sound better than the ordinary release?

2/ Has "The Unfinished Journey" ever had a comercial cinema, or DVD release (my guess is "no", but I wanted to make sure)?

The OST is not complete, but is pretty damn near close. There was a leak of the complete recording sessions (4 CDs containing seemingly every take of each cue), though a few of the cues (presumably recorded in a different location) are not included. See here:

Some audiophiles will tell you it sounds better, others won't. Depends how good your ears are

Nope!

There hasn't been an official recording of Williams' viola concerto, right?

No, there sadly hasn't been any official release of the viola concerto (yet). Hopefully Leonard Slatkin and Detroit Symphony Orchestra will record and release it in the near future.

SPR is complete, it has more music then in the film.

I think there are a couple of inserts written for a few moments in the film that are not present on the album but other than that the album is pretty much complete with a lot of unused music.

Angela's Ashes is a different case. The album clocks longer than the actual score in the film but contains several unused/alternate passages and concert suites but on the other hand is missing some cues from the film itself.

I have seen Stepmom only once and that was ages ago so I have no recollection of how much of the music from the film the album contains.

Incanus; any joy regarding "T+TK"?

Even though musicals are really not my usual cup of tea Thomas and the King features some catchy melodies and witty lyrics and I enjoyed it more than I actually thought I would. :)

Wrong!

There is 20 seconds of music missing at the 2:39 point of "High School Teacher"

http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4265&p=86043

Also, track 10 is an identical repeat of track 1, and Track 8 "High School Teacher", from 2:39-9:30 is a REPEAT of Track 3 "Omaha Beach" from 0:22-7:41.... so 13 minutes of music is repeated twice on the CD verbatim!

Yes, the CD has music that was not in the film. But it's still not complete.

Nope. Star Wars is the only score out of the six that has been released in complete form.

Thanks for that, guys.

Here's another one: is the OST for "Cinderella Liberty" a re-recording?

Oh, and how complete (or not) are the CDs of "Images", "Jane Eyre", "Midway" (the OST, not the RSNO), and "Family Plot" ?

Posted

Images CD is a transfer of a promotional LP made at the time of the film for Academy Awards consideration, so it's an arranged presentation and not the complete score

Jane Eyre is the same program as the LP made at the time of the film's release, and it's also not complete

Midway, the Varese CD of the film tracks, is complete apart from some cues that got damaged over the years

Family Plot is complete

Correct, though you can edit in the missing parts from the RSNO re-recording (also released by Varese)

Isn't "The Empire Strikes Back" complete. I can't think what could be missing from it, except for the alternate end title, which, I think, is on the Anthology. Colud be wrong, tho'...

Also, I assume that "Superman"s I-IV are complete?

Not sure if this needs its own thread, but...

What DVDs/Blu Rays contain isolated scores? I have a few of them ("Superman", "TWOE", the 5-disc "POTA" set, the first 4 "ALIEN" films). Do jwfaners know of any more?

P.s., I'm aware of "The Fury", and I have been told that "Mars Attacks!" has one.

The alternate ending of the cue where Yoda is revealed is unreleased.

The sheet music for Superman 1 leaked years ago, showing some passages that never got recorded for the first movie. However, since 1's score was adapted by Ken Thorne for 2 and 3, most of the passages eventually got re-recorded there.

I think you and I need to have a long conversation where nobody can tell us apart without reading.

Which ones!?

Maybe I am remembering wrong. Not sure anymore.

Does anyone -who has watched the film- know if Beverly Hills Cop's plot is held around Christmas?

(i see it was released in Christmas period)

Posted

If my memory is correct, no.

Joel Silver did the Christmas themed action films in those days (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon).

ok thanks.

Has anyone here heard James Newton Howard's I Would Plant A Tree, and is there a recording of it, official or otherwise?

Never mind, found one as soon as I posted this.

It's just a mockup since the one performance wasn't recorded. Truly lovely piece though.

A quick "Die Another Day" question.

Yes, I know it's rubbish, but that isn't the question. It's this:

The music for the begining of the "driving to Iceland" scene sounds like it was dialed-in. Was there any music that accompanied M's scene with Frost, which was cut?

First of all, I don't accept advice on hating from a man with the word hate in his own hypocritical avatar. Second, I know how many Jews were affected by Mr. Shark's avatar: the answer is zero.

Posted

I guess that means that 0.25 of a Jew was affected by the avatar. Hey, ho.

I have a coulpe "ROTJ" questions:

Why was the score only a single disc?

Why was the LP made up of largely concert,or alernate versions of tracks?
