Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 A coulpe of Spielberg questions I have been toying with:1/ Is the "Schindler's List" CD complete, or is there unreleased music on the DVD? Does anyone have the 24crt. gold release, and does it sound better than the ordinary release?2/ Has "The Unfinished Journey" ever had a comercial cinema, or DVD release (my guess is "no", but I wanted to make sure)?
Jay 46,242 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 A coulpe of Spielberg questions I have been toying with:1/ Is the "Schindler's List" CD complete, or is there unreleased music on the DVD?The OST is not complete, but is pretty damn near close. There was a leak of the complete recording sessions (4 CDs containing seemingly every take of each cue), though a few of the cues (presumably recorded in a different location) are not included. See here:http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15036http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16823Does anyone have the 24crt. gold release, and does it sound better than the ordinary release? Some audiophiles will tell you it sounds better, others won't. Depends how good your ears are2/ Has "The Unfinished Journey" ever had a comercial cinema, or DVD release (my guess is "no", but I wanted to make sure)?Nope!
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Thanks for that, Jason. Guess I'll have to buy "SL"...Shame about "TUJ".
Xander Harris 9,674 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Can someone post a scan of the back cover and/or insert for Star Tracks II?
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 There hasn't been an official recording of Williams' viola concerto, right?
Incanus 5,890 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 There hasn't been an official recording of Williams' viola concerto, right? No, there sadly hasn't been any official release of the viola concerto (yet). Hopefully Leonard Slatkin and Detroit Symphony Orchestra will record and release it in the near future.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 How complete (or not) are "Stepmom", "Saving Private Ryan", and "Angela's Ashes"?Incanus; any joy regarding "T+TK"?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 SPR is complete, it has more music then in the film.
Incanus 5,890 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 SPR is complete, it has more music then in the film.I think there are a couple of inserts written for a few moments in the film that are not present on the album but other than that the album is pretty much complete with a lot of unused music.Angela's Ashes is a different case. The album clocks longer than the actual score in the film but contains several unused/alternate passages and concert suites but on the other hand is missing some cues from the film itself.I have seen Stepmom only once and that was ages ago so I have no recollection of how much of the music from the film the album contains.Incanus; any joy regarding "T+TK"?Even though musicals are really not my usual cup of tea Thomas and the King features some catchy melodies and witty lyrics and I enjoyed it more than I actually thought I would.
Jay 46,242 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 SPR is complete, it has more music then in the film.Wrong! There is 20 seconds of music missing at the 2:39 point of "High School Teacher"http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4265&p=86043Also, track 10 is an identical repeat of track 1, and Track 8 "High School Teacher", from 2:39-9:30 is a REPEAT of Track 3 "Omaha Beach" from 0:22-7:41.... so 13 minutes of music is repeated twice on the CD verbatim!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 But itsnt there music on the CD that was dailed out in the film?
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 But itsnt there musid on the CD that was dailed out in the film? You okay there?
Wojo 2,458 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Yes, we speak English at this forum, not made up gobbledygook.
Wojo 2,458 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Tsk tsk, black Santa, that's not very festive.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 That is racist and culturally insensitive!
Jay 46,242 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Yes, the CD has music that was not in the film. But it's still not complete.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 20 seconds! Hardly relevant.SPR is complete!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Well it mostly is. Like ROTJ is complete.
Jay 46,242 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Nope. Star Wars is the only score out of the six that has been released in complete form.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Thanks for that, guys. Here's another one: is the OST for "Cinderella Liberty" a re-recording?Oh, and how complete (or not) are the CDs of "Images", "Jane Eyre", "Midway" (the OST, not the RSNO), and "Family Plot" ?
Jay 46,242 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Images CD is a transfer of a promotional LP made at the time of the film for Academy Awards consideration, so it's an arranged presentation and not the complete score Jane Eyre is the same program as the LP made at the time of the film's release, and it's also not complete Midway, the Varese CD of the film tracks, is complete apart from some cues that got damaged over the years Family Plot is complete
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Midway, the Varese CD of the film tracks, is complete apart from some cues that got damaged over the yearsSo it is NOT complete! Koray Savas 1
Jay 46,242 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Correct, though you can edit in the missing parts from the RSNO re-recording (also released by Varese)
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Nope. Star Wars is the only score out of the six that has been released in complete form.Isn't "The Empire Strikes Back" complete. I can't think what could be missing from it, except for the alternate end title, which, I think, is on the Anthology. Colud be wrong, tho'...Also, I assume that "Superman"s I-IV are complete? Not sure if this needs its own thread, but...What DVDs/Blu Rays contain isolated scores? I have a few of them ("Superman", "TWOE", the 5-disc "POTA" set, the first 4 "ALIEN" films). Do jwfaners know of any more?P.s., I'm aware of "The Fury", and I have been told that "Mars Attacks!" has one.

Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Also, I assume that "Superman"s I-IV are complete? Some cues from Superman: The Movie were unrecorded.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Un-recorded??!!! Tell us more, Faleel!
Jay 46,242 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The sheet music for Superman 1 leaked years ago, showing some passages that never got recorded for the first movie. However, since 1's score was adapted by Ken Thorne for 2 and 3, most of the passages eventually got re-recorded there.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Are you able to say which passages on the OSTs for "S 2", and "S 3" were the unrecorded passages?
Wojo 2,458 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I think you and I need to have a long conversation where nobody can tell us apart without reading.
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 However, since 1's score was adapted by Ken Thorne for 2 and 3, most of the passages eventually got re-recorded there.Which ones!?
Jay 46,242 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Maybe I am remembering wrong. Not sure anymore.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Oh, dear, Jas is starting to crumble...
filmmusic 3,269 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Does anyone -who has watched the film- know if Beverly Hills Cop's plot is held around Christmas?(i see it was released in Christmas period)
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 If my memory is correct, no. Joel Silver did the Christmas themed action films in those days (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon).
filmmusic 3,269 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 If my memory is correct, no.Joel Silver did the Christmas themed action films in those days (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon).ok thanks.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Has anyone here heard James Newton Howard's I Would Plant A Tree, and is there a recording of it, official or otherwise?Never mind, found one as soon as I posted this. It's just a mockup since the one performance wasn't recorded. Truly lovely piece though.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 It is a lovely piece, and yes there is a recording of it.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 A quick "Die Another Day" question.Yes, I know it's rubbish, but that isn't the question. It's this:The music for the begining of the "driving to Iceland" scene sounds like it was dialed-in. Was there any music that accompanied M's scene with Frost, which was cut?
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 The music for the begining of the "driving to Iceland" scene sounds like it was dialed-in. Was there any music that accompanied M's scene with Frost, which was cut?Correctamundo.http://grooveshark.com/#!/search?q=Bond+goes+to+Iceland+David+Arnold
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Thanks for that, Shark!Love your avatar, btw, but be warned: this town ain't big enough for the both of us,and it ain't me who's gonna leave...
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I find his avatar tasteless and anti-Semitic.
Wojo 2,458 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Why? Because he's got a dried nosebleed above his lip?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Stop your Jew-hating commentary please.
Wojo 2,458 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 First of all, I don't accept advice on hating from a man with the word hate in his own hypocritical avatar. Second, I know how many Jews were affected by Mr. Shark's avatar: the answer is zero.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I'm 1/4th Jew! So there!Iranian scum!
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I guess that means that 0.25 of a Jew was affected by the avatar. Hey, ho.I have a coulpe "ROTJ" questions:Why was the score only a single disc? Why was the LP made up of largely concert,or alernate versions of tracks?
