Nevertheless the story goes that this is the explanation that Lucas gave.

The real reason of course was that the LP market was changing, and that pop and disco soundtracks were in fashion now.

As for the reason why there were so many alternate of concert tracks? Well John wrote an unprecedented amount of concert tracks for ROTJ, after the success of The Princes Theme, The Imperial March, Yoda's Theme etc etc...

The inclusion of some alternate tracks might be because of the composers preference, or their revised counterparts not being available at the time of the soundtrack LP's production.

Thanks for that, Stefan. It's all very clear to me, now. :)

Ok, Ive got a "Jurassic Park" question. It takes a while to ask, so bear with...

The cars stop at the T-Rex paddock. They try to get said beastie to make an appearence, but he's - sorry, she's - a no-show. The cars then carry-on their merry way, until all Hell breaks loose, and they stop...at the T-Rex paddock. HOW? They already went past the paddock, and the cars cannot go backwards. WTF?!

Moving-on...the T-Rex eats the wire (and Genarro!) and comes out from the jungle. He - sorry, she - then turns the car around so the characters are facing the jungle. She then tips the car, and the characters into the jungle...except that there is a bloody great drop where the jungle used to be! Where the bloody Hell did that come from, and how could the T-Rex get out of the jungle? Did she jump?!

Where were you three years ago when someone had to draw a map to show the cliff that wasn't there in the day but only appeared at night?

Ta for that, peeps! Looking at the post, I see that it was put on jwfan in Nov. 2010. This was not a good time for me, and I was in no mood to do anything but cry into my (cold) coffee. I'm better, now.

Wow! A Blast from the past. I miss Justin.

I was brilliant in those days, what the hell happened?

Isn't that just the depressing truth. I usually react like that when I see my earlier posts. I used to be brilliant and now I spew one-liner posts and jokes. What the heck happened to me?

By the magic of Google I found this FSM thread on the subject and it seems that the MusicBoxRecords is releasing Good Will Hunting this year

This is it! We have fixed all legal issues.
The coming CD album will contain the five songs by Elliott Smith (including "Miss Misery") and the complete original score composed by Danny Elfman. We will also include more cues than the FYC Promotional CD.

The album will likely be released in 2014.

There is a theme appear in the OST of The Fellowship of the Ring: Track 06. At The Sign Of The Prancing Pony (2:49)

Is this short theme the "Weathertop theme"?

And was it included in the Complete Recording?

Thanks a lot!

Edit:

Nevermind.

It is in The Rarities Archive.

It is not a theme as such actually. And that Rarities Archive passage is an alternate version, which underscores Gandalf witnessing the defiling of Isengard from his captivity on top of Orthanc, which was left mostly unscored in the film and only has an Evil Times rendition in the movie version.

In what cue or suite can I find a complete version of the Force Theme?

The one in Binary Sunset trails off before reaching a cadence. I'm looking for one for the cadence is actually there in the same kind of melancholic mood (so not the Throne Room version).

Posted

There's no such cue. It's one of those themes (like The Emperor's theme) that Williams hasn't written a concert suite for. That said, there's still hope with the new trilogy. He might even come up with a B theme.

Posted

Really? I could swear there was a version with the cadence somewhere, I think somewhere in the prequel scores or suites. Or am I just dreaming that? Like a statement tucked away in some unlikely cue is what I'm thinking.

Posted

Ah yes, that's the cue! Thanks Steef and Shark. Though funnily enough, it's the version two statements just before Funeral Pyre in Leia's News that has the complete version I was thinking of. Beautifully closed off with a cadence. This last one has one of those CMCRs (Type 0, if I'm not mistaken).

That's the alternative/unused version of Funeral Pyre.

That's one of the very best renditions of the theme.

But as the Youtuber said, a bit too heavy handed for the scene.

Exactly. It's such a shame it wasn't used!

True enough. It's just too bad we couldn't have one nicely closed off version of it.

Heavy handed would have been a nice juxtaposition against the goofy Ewok song that follows. On the other hand, considering that's how the saga ended before 1997, the quieter retrospective funeral music was perfectly appropriate.

Yes, I like the way the Force theme is harmonised over its submediant (Eb), which then acts as a secondary dominant to Ab, which in turn cadences on a warm Db, the furthest chord away from Gm, but yet sounds totally satisfying. The beginning of the New Republic.
