Jay 46,244 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Yes, the quality is fine on my internet connection, but the selection is god-awful. I cancelled it and went back to a disc-only plan
Quintus 6,496 Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 Netflix will eventually go into administration. It isn't a sustainable business so long as they struggle with licensing.
Jay 46,244 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I still love their disc service for the most part, but lately it's annoying because I'll see a film another way then only rent the disc to watch deleted scenes, etc.... but more and more discs you get from them are "rental version" discs that ONLY contain the movie. It's a great way to get TV shows though. Can't wait to start re-watching Batman: TAS thanks to Netflix.
Wojo 2,458 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Ooooh, I didn't even think to look for that one! I'll watch that after Firefly and Serenity.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Best Buy will be exclusively carrying On Her Majesty's Secret Service, You Only Live Twice, and the Spy Who Loved Me.Walmart has the exclusive rights to Octopussy, Diamonds are Forever, and Golden Eye, and Target has the rights to A View to a Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies, and the Living Daylights.all available 10-02-12.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Why not just get the awesome complete set?
Jay 46,244 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Yup. For $186 you get all 22 Bond films, that's $8.45 per movie. I don't get why anyone would do anything differently. Hell you can sell the ones you don't like for $15 each and come out way ahead if you want.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Why not just get the awesome complete set?because I don't want the complete set and I don't want to pay that much, and who the fk wants the hassle of selling movies you purchased, I'm not a retailer or wholesaler. Admiral Holdo 1
Jay 46,244 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 The nine movies you mentioned will probably be sold in those stores for $20 each, which is $180 total. For $186 you can get all 22 films on amazon. I don't get the allure of buying them separately.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 the Walmart exclusives are 9.96.Can't say what the target or bb exclusives are yet.I really only want a small number of bond films.
Jay 46,244 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Really, $10 each? Impressive. That means the $8.50/each of the box set is considerably less of a savings than I had thought. Hmm.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 well I know that 8.50 appeals to your purchase sensibilities, but 9.96 is comfortable for me. And I believe they are not bare bones releases, but we'll see.
Joe Brausam 234 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I had the box on preorder, but cancelled it. I really only want a few of the Bond films too, no sense buying the whole set when I don't enjoy all the movies.
Jay 46,244 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I haven't seen a lot of the Bond films, maybe I should rent them first. Plus if the individual releases are selling for that low, I'm thinking there will be a bigger discount on the big box around Black Friday or so
Joe Brausam 234 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I would bet it would be one of Amazon's Black Friday deals.
A24 5,156 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I haven't seen a lot of the Bond films, You are not missing much.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 are you even British!
publicist 4,650 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I saw and enjoyed some of the more campy Moore ones at the ripe age of 9 or 10 and found the Connerys incredibly slow-moving after that. I really prefer John Le Carré - it#s slow-moving, too, but at least for a reason.
publicist 4,650 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 And i don't even have a Blu-Ray player.
Quintus 6,496 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 are you even British! You only love it because you're obsessed with the British! As a series of movies Bond is only matched by Star Trek in the disjointed mediocrity stakes. There's about four or five good adventures in there at best. You even love the last one, which was awfulness dressed up in a tux. publicist 1

I don't feel any of those films are just average or mediocre. I'll let someone else give props to the Dalton and Brosnan films, I can't.
Quintus 6,496 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Almost all of the Bonds are watchable, in a it's raining outside and I've got nothing better do sort of way, but only a handful rise above nostalgic comfort food IMO.My favorites are Live and Let DieOctopussy (mainly due to Barry) GoldfingerOn Her Majesty's Secret Service The Dalton one with the Fratelli villain Casino Royale publicist 1
Xander Harris 9,675 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 In general I like the Moore, Brosnan and especially the newer movies. The Connery ones are known to put me to sleep. Sorry.
Admiral Holdo 16 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I enjoy all of them (DAD the least, but that's just me), though I'm under no delusion that quite a few are guilty pleasures.*starts rocking out to FYEO's score*
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 In general I like the Moore, Brosnan and especially the newer movies. The Connery ones are known to put me to sleep. Sorry. The Connery ones can drag, but at least they're interesting. I couldn't stand the lame attempts at humour in the Moore Bonds. In fact, they made me stop watching the series when it was on TV. As a result, I still haven't seen any of the Dalton Bonds.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 the Connery Bond's are interesting because Connery makes you believe.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I'll let someone else give props to the Dalton and Brosnan films, I can't.Brosnan is my favorite Bond after Connery. Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are both really great films. It starts to go downhill with The World Is Not Enough and then it explodes with Die Another Day, which is worse than Never Say Never Again. That being said, he was always a great Bond. The cast was never a problem, it was the horrendous writing and direction behind the latter two films.
Admiral Holdo 16 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 You can tell how old someone is by when Bond stopped being Bond for them.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Bond stopped being Bond with Quantum Of Solace. As bad as Die Another Day is, it has all the ingredients of a Bond film.
ZackR 187 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Quantum of Solace is terrible. Just terrible.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 time to print another $3.00 Universal Classics coupon.Tuesday Airport arrives on schedule. This film has everything, an Airport, a bomb, a priest who slaps people, an annoying kid, a stowaway, a Drunken pilot, and one hell of a score by Alfred Newman.
Admiral Holdo 16 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 As a huge Airplane! fan, I am forever grateful for Airport's existence.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 As a huge Airplane! fan, I am forever grateful for Airport's existence. Miles, have you seen Zero Hour?
Wojo 2,458 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 As a huge Airplane! fan, I am forever grateful for Airport's existence. Miles, have you seen Zero Hour?Billy, have you ever seen a grown man naked?
films 0 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I dont want to alarm anybody but is there anyone who can fly a plane ?
Xander Harris 9,675 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 http://www.blu-raydefinition.com/reviews/titanic-limited-3d-edition-blu-ray-review.htmlLooks like all the deleted scenes are in HD! I look forward to the Reflections feature, but I already saw Final Word on TV. Much of the 2 1/2 hours of new features is that special. I find that disappointing.
scallenger 665 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Doesn't look like it has the hidden bonus features like the parody from SNL, unless they are hidden again in this version and the reviewer didn't spot them.
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Doesn't look like it has the hidden bonus features like the parody from SNL, unless they are hidden again in this version and the reviewer didn't spot them. They are included. See here.
Kendal_Ozzel 36 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Catch Me If You Can is coming to Blu-ray on December 4th.
Xander Harris 9,675 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Yet another one of my favorite movies. There are very few left now. Just, you know, good versions of the original Star Wars Trilogy and a few others.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Catch Me If You Can is one of Spielberg's best. Joe Brausam 1
Xander Harris 9,675 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 You got that right. I feel like Spielberg connected with that film more than any he's done since Schindler's List.
A24 5,156 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Tom Hanks is a little too much serving himself and not the movie though. His ego wants to take over or dominate the whole movie. With other words, his character is too big. Hanks is not helping the movie, he's competing with the movie.Alex
