New trailer? There was one before?

This appears to be the U.S. trailer (still loading 1080p):

Holy fuck that looks awesome.

Posted

Notice that Shyamalan's name is nowhere to be found in that trailer.

It was a really bad one. It took us through Earth's facebook page (not kidding).

A wise marketing move. Get people's butts in the seats then let them trip over their own words when his name appears. Can't wait to hear what Howard comes up for this.

I already guessed the twist in the trailer. That voiceover, the hugging, the suits, the subject, the corniness ... A skipper, for sure.

New The Lone Ranger trailer.

Hans Zimmer is now credited as the composer instead of Jack White

Posted

Doesn't appear as much like they're playing the Ranger himself for laughs as has been talked about. Looks like it could be fun.

Twist? What twist?

I assume he's talking about the planet being Earth, which should have been clear from the title of the film, but it's Alex so we should give him a break.

It also says so in the synopsis of the film. That's why I thought he was talking about something else.

JNH ought to deliver the goods, like with Last Airbender.

Here's the first After Earth teaser, the Facebook profile one. It's pretty awful

Anyway I too don't understand what "twist" Alex is talking about. The movie has always been described as being about a ranger and his kid crash landing on earth after no one lives there any more because mankind has moved on to another planet. So he's either talking about some other twist he thinks he's figured out, or he's not paying much attention to things.

Posted

it's shocking how Will and his son seem to look more and more alike.

Posted

Saw him in an interview this one time and wanted to throttle the spoilt little fucker!

Posted

I hope The Lone Ranger gives Hans the opportunity to do a proper western score as a homage to Morricone. Like Rango should have been. The movie was great, but the score really lacked in Morricone power, for me.

Posted

Yeah, but they weren't as good as it could have been, specially considering how much Hans knows and admires Ennio's music.

Well, watching it I got the vibe that big Will wasn't going to be in the movie much. The way it seemed to be edited, I could totally see father dying to save son, and the rest of the film is Will Jr. trying to survive. Whatever shots of Will seemed to be of the same scene and it seems as if he's going to be embarking words of wisdom from recordings and the like for the most part. At least that's the vibe I got from the trailer, but I don't know if that's what he's alluding to.

I did see the OZ trailer today..looked pretty cool

I don't know if that's what he's alluding to.

It's pretty simple though. Decribe the trailer and you'll understand. The trailer itself ends with a twist so the people go OMG.

A trailer with a twist ... how Shyamalan!

Cheap as chips writer/director. With each movie Shyamalan was eventually revealed as the gimmick he is. Even unfussy audiences have grown wise to his superficial hooks by now.

One trick pony who desperately needs to have a rethink.

After a failure and another one I didn't even see, I'm curious about what he'll do.

But it looks like Earth from the beginning. It's obvious that the dialogue is from the beginning of the film.

But it looks like Earth from the beginning.

No, it doesn't. And it wouldn't make sense to make the trailer they way they did if it was that clear from the beginning. You are Chaacing. What's more, you don't even understand the setup/buildup of the trailer ... or you pretend not to understand.

And now you are going to reply with more Chaacing.

No, it doesn't.

???????????????

Maybe I thought it looked like Earth from the beginning due to that I had already read the synopsis and that I already knew the title of the film. So it was obvious and didn't seem like a twist.

Let's look at the trailer. Sci-fi in movies has had a tendency to make alien planets look like Earth and I'm not taking it anymore. If it looks like Earth it looks like Earth. Our trees, our grass, our Earthly type of animals (look at them). The characters going around breathing, without problem of pressure, atmosphere composition, and temperature. On top of it, Will Smith says the life on the planet has coexisted with humans during the trailer. Unless this is a space opera or an alien place that has been turned into a copy of Earth via terraforming and genetical engineering, that IS fucking Earth and it looks like it. You aren't blind, Alex.

And if it doesn't look like Earth, then why did you say that you guessed the line at the end of the trailer? I think you're contradicting yourself.

It makes sense that that they did it that way because it's the typical remark they put at the end of a trailer to make it "epic" to the masses, and it ties into the title of the film. You could stop accusing me of chaacing and actually look at what you're criticizing. Neither in the film nor in the trailer there is any kind of apparent twist.

That said, the film looks boring. Let's see what Shyamalan does afterwards.

I was never a Shyamalan fan but, IMO, he climaxed with Unbreakable. Afted that, he never came close again. There's no way I'm even going to rent this flick. A boy fighting monsters? So totally not interesting.

Sure, Chaac, of course! There is absolutely NO TWIST. Everybody sees a crash of a spaceship in a jungle with weird monsters, Will Smith and his son in spacesuits and immediately thinks, hey they are on Earth! Not to mention the buildup of Will Smith's dialog slowly leading to a revealment, the truth. You are so Chaacing. They are breathing? The grass looks green? Are you serious! I really need to stop coming here.

I am going to refrain from actually taking snapshots from the trailer, posting them here and act like a school teacher.

Whatever, Alex.

Alex is a dumbass, you're all stupid if you think Shyamalan is a gimmicky director. Move along to your Superman complaints and Snyder orgies, please!

Posted

you're all stupid if you think Shyamalan is a gimmicky director.

Heh, other keep making flubs and people keep queueing for their films, Shyamalan's screws up a pair of times and everybody hates him.

Posted

Hehe, there's only one Koray Savas. Supporter of all things shit in the world!

Posted

The only thing open to discussion about the content of the After Earth trailer is whether the prehistoric looking animals were recreated by humans or they're supposed to have appeared naturally in a very short time from nothing and we're being taken for stupid. We'll see what option they picked. I bet it's the second one.

But it does look kind of bland. A space ship that can't avoid a few rocks in space, the kid who I can't stand, Will Smith trying to look serious, and the visual aspect doesn't look very interesting so far. And why do they have that kind of sword thing, and why does the kid have to fight whatever with the sword thing? Not for me I guess.

I'm not sure if Chaac isn't Koray.

At this point people love to hate him. The Happening was a financial success. Even there people failed to see his brand of dry humor. It's not an entirely serious film, how could it be when you've got a guy exclaiming "cheese and crackers!" And don't mistake me for praising it either, I thought it was a bad film, but not nearly as horrid as people made it out to be. It's got Zooey Deschanel after all ;)

The Last Airbender is pretty awful, but the music is so fucking good that it makes it watchable.

These are the two films where I started to see him swerve and then crash. I never understood the hate for Signs, The Village, and Lady In The Water, the former being brilliant.

How do you explain people like me? One that loves E.T. and can appreciate Blade Runner?

I didn't like The Happening but I thought it felt like a first draft for something way better. And yes it isn't entirely serious. I didn't see The Last Airbender. I'm not a fan of Signs (even if there's some good stuff in the film), and I liked The Village and Lady in the Water, specially The Village. My favourite of his is Unbreakable.

No, Koray, explain how this trailer about a spaceship crash, two astronauts surrounded by great danger, a jungle, the final words of Will Smith that reveal THEY ARE ON EARTH are in such a way constructed that the viewer already knew this from the very start and that no surprise was intented for the assembly of this trailer.

EDIT: Explain to me how despite all that the exact opposite was intented!

Seriously, Shyamalan made The Happening; truly one of the most hilariously awful movies I've ever seen. He is undone. That movie made Spielberg's 1941 look like Apocalypse Now.

Looks like you're implying both of those are the aforementioned shit.

Lee - who still enjoys Signs for the largely successful creepfest it is.

I was actually playing off your comment when Alex and Joey were going at it. I may like a lot of shit to you, but I also like most of the stuff you like as well, same goes for most members, even Alex.

So... Shyamalan has brought chaos to the board. That's... cool. The man seems to be far more powerful than some people believe he is.

The After Earth trailer looks awful in my opinion. The concept may seem interesting, but everything in the trailer looks like its all been handled in a pretty bland fashion. It looks generic and with the previous facebook teaser, it looks like it'll be a bloated plot full of corniness and cliches. The visuals aren't particularly appealing.

The Last Airbender is pretty awful, but the music is so fucking good that it makes it watchable.

Even the music couldn't do that for me. It was cringe-worthy and painful to watch.
