gkgyver 1,647 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I saw the final trailer for Raimi's Oz.I thought it looked terrible. Awful humor, clicheed, and the colourful CGI turns my stomach around. I know the phrase is used too often, but it looks indeed like a video game.
Wojo 2,458 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I don't understand the idea of a prequel to a movie that turned out to be nothing but a dream. I understand that L. Frank Baum wrote at least fourteen Oz books, but the average moviegoer doesn't know this. They know the musical with Judy Garland. So did Dorothy have to bump her head in the bathtub when she was eight in order for this movie to happen?
KK 3,313 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Dorothy's a very clumsy girl. It didn't take long before her many falls/bumps lead to a coma.Or at least that's the logic we'll use to explain the future sequels, remakes, and quasi-prequels a la Prometheus
A24 5,156 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I don't understand the idea of a prequel to a movie that turned out to be nothing but a dream. Parallel worlds ... The Wizard Of Oz was way ahead of its time. It's the Jules Verne of movies.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 The B&W scenes were the actual dream.
A24 5,156 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 True, they say people dream in B&W. The makers of The Wizard Of Oz already knew this.Alex
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 In this instance I prefer to take the movie at face value, it's more magical and hearty that way. I'm not saying I'm against interpretation or cynical adult viewers who prefer to chop it up with a cleaver, but The Wizard of Oz for me and my children shan't be anything more than simple and joyous.I have zero interest in Raimi's version.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 True, they say people dream in B&W. The makers of The Wizard Of Oz already knew this.AlexI dream in color. The Wizard of Oz was never in black and white.
Jay 46,244 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 In the Oz books Dorothy and others travel to Oz many times because it's a real place. They made up the "It was all a dream" thing for the 1939 movie.
Wojo 2,458 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Ok, but I somehow don't think the average movie-goer is going to separate the books from that movie. Everybody has seen the 1939 movie, but do you think many people have read more than one Oz book? I read and enjoyed the original -- the differences between it and the film are fun to contemplate -- but I never made it through any of the others. That was my point. I know very well that the novels showed Oz as a real place, so as to not "dumb down" the idea of a fantasy world and to more easily allow Dorothy access to Oz for his sequels, but somebody made the decision for the film that audiences would better accept it if it were a dream.~*~Whose bright idea was it to "reboot" the Jack Ryan movies in the present-day? Don't get me wrong, I like Chris Pine, but I really can't understand a "prequel" to The Hunt for Red October that's set 20+ years after the fact, when the Cold War is history, and not based on any book.http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/jack-back-chris-pine-steps-big-shoes-play-234347056.htmlUgh.Oh yeah. 17,000.
Wycket 36 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I don't understand why people think that there can't be anything Wizard of Oz that doesn't correlate to the '39 flick. It wasn't the first or the last adaptation of the story, and while its the most popular there's plenty of room to expand with many of the characters not seen on screen. Return to Oz, while bringing in the ruby slippers, was completely different from the Garland movie in nearly every way and turned out great. Do I think this film will be great? Unlikely, especially with Franco as the lead, but it may be a fun ride and a nice trip back to Oz. I'd love to see a series of Oz films that try to expand and use more of the books' stories and characters so hopefully this will be a hit.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 No, you should say "i have faith in sam"In honor of our good friend Neil. (I have faith in Singer)
Wojo 2,458 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I trust in samNo, you should say "i have faith in sam"Really? American cash says "In God we trust," which was "We trust in God" long before Yoda made that sentence structure cool. Your wordy way would be "Faith in God we have" which you can't say without sounding like Grover.

JoeinAR 1,957 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 the remake of Carrie has been pushed from a March release to an October release.this is to help it's boxoffice potential.
Jay 46,244 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Bummer in a way, but overall it is a smart plan that probably will lead to more success.I have to say that Chloe Grace Moretz is extremely talented. I'd watch anything she's in.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I was disappointed that it was moved, it was one of the spring films I was anticipating.
A. A. Ron 2,485 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 You'd think they'd just wing it... Again.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I saw the preview for The Great Gatsby, looks like a train wreck with few survivors. Now if the music in the trailer is any indication, God Help us.
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 I'm dying to see his next one in which he plays a sheriff!
Delorean90 47 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Did you see the red band trailer for it?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLBzuUPrEaEI love the last line.
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 Hahaha that looks terrible! I'll be there. Delorean90 1
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Frank Darabont will re-write the script to the upcoming Godzilla film.http://www.inquisitr.com/472919/godzilla-remake-to-be-rewritten-by-frank-darabont-joseph-gordon-levitt-not-interested/Very interesting.
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 Frank Darabont should write more movies.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Frank Darabont should direct more movies.I modified your post to suit me
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 While he's not going to direct Godzilla, I would love to see him do it.
A24 5,156 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I hope Darabont will do something more intriguing than Godzilla. Although I did enjoy his previous monster movie (because it wasn't really about the monsters but about people and how people are when they are taken out of their safe environments).Okay folks,Watch M83's Drum Battle For The Score Of Oblivion:http://www.comingsoo...ws.php?id=98821Alex
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Darabont should write the new Star Wars trilogy.

Could be cool.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Darabont should write the new Star Wars trilogy.Yeah and then get rewritten by Koepp and have Lucas come in and add gophers and monkeys instead of droids.
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 No doubt there'd be a scene in which Luke Skywalker's daughter tells her dad she doesn't like peanut butter, right after escaping a Star Destroyer through asteroids.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 No doubt there'd be a scene in which Luke Skywalker's daughter tells her dad she doesn't like peanut butter, right after escaping a Star Destroyer through asteroids.no no no, she tells her dad she doesn't like a specific brand of peanut butter,PRODUCT PLACEMENT.
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Yeah true. The Peanut butter tie-in plastic jar toy with fully unscrewable lid in mint condition will be worth a pretty penny in years to come.
Once 1,083 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Finally! Damn, I've been waiting a long time for this. Cuarón's next picture (Gravity) has a release date!I still think the most amazing thing in the world would be another Cuarón-Williams collaboration.
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Jesus, I'd actually forgotten Cuarón even existed. Wft?! Get a move on, son!
Once 1,083 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I know, he hasn't released a film in 7 years! And they kept pushing this film's release date back. I think it was shot in May 2011, so it has been a long post-production.
Jay 46,244 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 8 years - Children of Men was 2005!Wow according to wikipedia, Angelina Jolie, Marion Cotillard, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, and Natalie Portman were all considered / were offered the lead role. And George Clooney's role was originally Robert Downey Jr until he had to leave the project
Brónach 1,330 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 He had a lot of trouble casting the film.

I was beginning to think it might never happen.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I believe it was 2006 here indeed

A24 5,156 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 You sound genuinely thrilled about this news, Steef!
Jay 46,244 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 No, 2006.Woops! I knew it came out 2 years after Harry Potter 3, which for some reason I had in my head as a 2003 movie. My bad!
A24 5,156 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 I'm posting this because the movie has Sean Young in it. She's not in the teaser. The teaser made me laugh: "The pit wants what it wants!" And Christopher Nolan might direct Interstellar, once envisioned as a Spielberg project.http://www.slashfilm...elberg-project/Alex
