Jill Sandwich 11,165 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Saying Schindler's List shouldn't have collectible add-ons is like saying Saving Private Ryan should be in mono because having the best multi-channel audio track known to home cinema is tasteless and disrespectful.I'm sure I've heard less apt analogies in my life, but at the moment I can't recall when. I promise you, the Normandy Landings were in surround sound! It's simply something I'd imagine some easily outraged nanna would say if she found out people were fawning over an incredible multi-channel sound track in a film that portrays the warfront in an accurate manner. Maybe I've been around the kneejerk reactionaries on Twitter for too long.
Trent B 354 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Never saw abyss.Wow I don't think I've met anyone around my age who hasn't seen the movie.Great film! Especially the Special EditionIndeed the Special Edition version is A LOT better than the theatrical cut.
Brónach 1,330 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 It's a great film. I love love it. I felt it was like a mix of several things I like all put together lol
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 It's a rare film in that neither of the stars of the Abyss would ever work or want to work with Cameron again while virtually all his other films his esemble of actors want to work with him again.
filmmusic 3,269 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I just hope when The Abyss comes, the blues don't become teal (as it's usual with Cameron's Blurays)!!

Especially with some scenes regarding Ed Harris' character.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 the rumor is Star Trek the Motion Picture will be rereleased in a restored Directors cut.4-30-13 is the release date for Best of Both Worlds in the US
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 A restored STTMP? And then perhaps (wishful thinking, haven't heard anything about this whatsoever) the extended Khan cut? Would be a good opportunity for me to finally upgrade these to Blu.
Nick1Ø66 8,330 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Digital Bits is reporting that all the new Star Trek BD's will be the same versions and transfers as the existing ones, including ST:TMP.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 What... they're re-releasing the old Blu releases when the movies already had special treatment years ago on DVD? Why...?
Nick1Ø66 8,330 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 What... they're re-releasing the old Blu releases when the movies already had special treatment years ago on DVD? Why...? I'm not sure what you mean by "special treatment"? If you're referring to the DC of TMP, the new special effects that were included in the DVD release were apparently only composited for SD....short sighted, I know, but that explains why there's no DC for the BD.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I know. But all the films have a special edition run on DVD, with extended cuts (includng II and VI) and improved transfers. And they'll just have to finance another revamping of the FX for STTMP at 4K or something like that.Anyway, what about those old Errol Flynn classics on Blu, like Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk? And where the heck is Scaramouche!?
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 There's a new Die Hard set for $30 that was released last week. Think I should get that, or will they make another box set when the fifth film hits Blu? I thought they would do that with Mission: Impossible, but that has yet to happen.
Jay 46,241 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Of course they will make another box set when the 5th film comes to blu, its Fox.However, films 4 and 5 suck, so why would you want to own them? Just buy 1-3 for $5 each
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 You can't say a movie you haven't seen sucks, and I liked 4.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Its very normal for Jason to have a fully formed opinion about a movie before its released...
scallenger 665 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I'm sure this has been discussed before, but what is the general consensus here on the Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection BluRay set? I read the Bluray.com review but I want all of your input since there are a lot of Trek fans here. Is it really worth shelling out like 50 bucks for? Or do you think something better will come out in a few months to coincide with the new Trek film and could harness better transfers?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,385 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I would wait. Even if the transfers are the same, the old set will drop in price
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 With Skyfall coming out this Tuesday, a bunch of the other Bond films are being released separately. This has to be the worst cover art of all time:
Wycket 36 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 It truly is amazing how some covers in the line look terrific (mainly Goldfinger, OHMSS, From Russia With Love) and how some look like absolute garbage. Hell, the cover of A View to a Kill has a picture of Rog seemingly out of focus.

Quintus 6,494 Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 They're designed and approved by people who don't give a shit about the fans nor the integrity of the franchise and just want to get paid.Anyway, I've heard this is rubbish, but is it worth 4 quid? http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/27301325/Sucker-Punch/Product.html?source=9593&_$ja=tsid:11853%7Cprd:47868&awc=1418_1360524142_832094d50614848dac2c8c62f1e140e5
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 didn't they already have separate releases?

Jay 46,241 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I liked Sucker Punch! Make sure you get the unrated extended cut, not the theatrical cut.
A24 5,155 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I didn't like it and I'm the biggest fan of Snyder in all the known universes. The problem is that he wrote it himself.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Walmart has the Skyfall blu for 18.96. not a bad price on a newly released blu.I see that Les Miserables has an exclusive Steelbook release. I was hoping a digibook but I'll probably get the steel.I want the 2 disc Lincoln.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Does the 4-disc Lincoln set have an extra disc of features? There are no details on Amazon's page. War Horse is still $30+ may just buy it since it doesn't seem to be going down anytime soon.
fommes 165 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 For once we got lucky and the Belgian/Dutch regular blu-ray release of War Horse is a 2-disc and contains the music extra as well. Might be worth looking into if you can play them of course.

Why doesn't it go down??and i really hope they would make editions too without the DVDs and digital copies and stuff. Just the BLurays! For once we got lucky and the Belgian/Dutch regular blu-ray release of War Horse is a 2-disc and contains the music extra as well. Might be worth looking into if you can play them of course. You mean this?http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/War-Horse-Blu-ray/49893/it does have an awful cover though..
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Titanic is available at Sam's club for 12 bucks, talking about the 1953 Barbara Stanwyck version.

There's a 2-disc set that has the Blu and the DVD. Then there's the 4 that has the Blu, the DVD, and the digital copy, and a mysterious fourth disc.
fommes 165 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 filmmusic, that's the German set, but yes that has the special features as well. I think the American 4-disc has the blu-ray, the blu-ray special features disc, dvd and dig copy.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Special Features?Likely, but does that mean the 2-disc set has none? That's what I was trying to get at, if this 4-disc version has more than the 2.

I think the American 4-disc has the blu-ray, the blu-ray special features disc, dvd and dig copy.yes, i know about the American.Does the Belgian/Dutch have a different cover than the German? (same as American?)And where it can be purchased? is it cheaper than the American/German?Because I'm thinking of buying the American, unless the Belgian has almost the same cover (or anyway a good cover, not like the German one), and is much cheaper..(i hope I didn't confuse you!)
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I notice Walmart has an exclusive Skyfall without any extra's but it's more than the 2 disc set currently. So far on the handfull of Bond films I own the extra's have been well worth watching. I expect no less from Skyfall's extras
fommes 165 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 filmmusic, this is the cover: http://www.bol.com/nl/p/war-horse/1002004011889959/Mine doesn't have a slipcase though.Special Features?Likely, but does that mean the 2-disc set has none? That's what I was trying to get at, if this 4-disc version has more than the 2.If I'm not mistaken, only the American 4-disc has the extras. 2-disc could be dig copy or dvd.
filmmusic 3,269 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 filmmusic, this is the cover: http://www.bol.com/nl/p/war-horse/1002004011889959/Mine doesn't have a slipcase though.OMG, thanks! that looks great! and it's a so low price for the film + bonus features disc? Wow! (by the way, the cover says it has the bonus features, but down in the specifications it says 1 disc )Is this the only place where i can get it?Do you know of any place to get this specific edition and which ships to Europe? (and maybe has English language in their site)by the way: the technical specifications are the same with the american?DTS-HD MA 7.1 and English for hearing impaired subtitles? (i don't think it has any Greek, does it?)
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 well I got my income tax return. going to do a few home improvements, and I'm going to allow myself a few blu's and the rest is in savings.Thinking of getting the King Kong digibook from the UK, and I will pick up On Her Majesties Secret Service.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I've read RUMORS, so I'm not posting a link, that The Right Stuff will be out this fall on blu.Hope this turns out correct.
filmmusic 3,269 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Does anyone know where can anyone order Portuguese releases of Blurays?
scallenger 665 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 The upcoming Warner BluRay of Westworld just got reviewed at DVD Beaver for those interested. The review compares it to a Region B release that came out a year or so ago. Interesting difference in transfer. I'm kind of flip-flopped on which I prefer in terms of color. In some ways I do think the new Warner disc is more faithful, but then I also think it's a bit too washed out. Hmmm. Either way I can't play Region B so I have no choice but to get the new Warner edition (which is Region Free). It does however also boast a 5.1 audio track, so that right there is enough reason to upgrade the DVD.Not only that, but the new Warner disc actually has a few cool extras! It includes the theatrical trailer (that was on the DVD), vintage "On Location With Westworld" featurette, and also a 47 minute-long pilot to the short-lived series "Beyond Westworld". Didn't expect that last one! Never seen it at all, so it will be interesting to watch! The only thing I really dislike about this new release is the cover art. It's not horrendous, but nothing can compare to the wonderful cover art on the DVD.Warner BluRay:Original DVD:http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-ray_reviews56/westworld_blu-ray.htmIn other news, for those who may not know, Shout Factory is releasing it's sequel, "Futureworld". It just got it's bonus features detailed, which includes only a trailer, radio spots, and a still gallery. I wasn't really a fan of the sequel at all, honestly, but it apparently has it's fans.http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=10493Both titles will be out in March.
