There's never been a Giacchino OST where EVERY track was a pun

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes came very close!

Sucks that it is a Digipack! I wonder if it will be in a jewel case in foreign release copies? LOVE the track names. "Costa Rican Standoff" is an interesting title, though. Sure, the island is off the coast of Costa Rica, but does this track maybe suggest part of the movie takes place on Costa Rica itself? Meh, looking too far into it. Giacchino puns don't deserve scrutiny. ;)

Well, thd digipack will fit with tlw. The series cds go now jewel,digi,jewel,digi...

About costarican standoff...i think it is just a pun to 'mexican standoff'

Looking at that track list again.... I may have been wrong!

I wonder if there will be an online bonus track at all for this score like they sometimes do? Maybe we'll get a source music track for the Starbucks at Jurassic World? Track name:

"Grande Giacchino"

:rimshot:

This is honestly a dream I had last night: I was waiting at a NYC subway station for Williams to appear, because he was secretly recording the Jurassic World Score down there for the acoustics (don't ask) and instead two t-rex's came up the stairs and started killing all who were waiting with me. I ran but woke up after I was about to be eaten. I'm guessing that it was my subconscious telling me that there is a conspiracy at foot, and Williams is ghost writing for Giacchino on JW, and has been all along, because Giacchino doesn't exist, he's just a guy that the studios use for photos while Williams writes everything.

I remember having several dreams about finally finding Return of the Jedi (RCA Victor) and it always contained country music.

Wow, I wish I had dreams like that

I had a dream that I heard a variation of Bilbo's Fussy theme in BOTFA, and I was listening to an entirely different score while sleeping!

One of the TV spots credits Williams underneath Giacchino's name.

Disappointing if all Giacchino uses is Williams' main theme and none of his terrific motifs.

That credit wasn't featured in any trailer pre-recording sessions, so that's an interesting development. Did Giacchino use more of his theme in the score than was originally intended? Or, at the very least, now the score's been recorded with Williams' theme, they have a legal obligation to credit JW?

From memory he got the same credit for JP3 after Davis integrated his theme wholesale.

Gotta say, I expected autopilot Giacchino, but the tracks I just heard were fantastic. Well written, creative orchestration, some really interesting use of woodwinds, and of course the burst-out moment of John's original theme was sublime. The entire cue builds up to it, where you feel it just bubbling under the surface, then it explodes to end the cue. Great stuff!

Apparently he wrote 115 minutes of music, so will be interesting to see how much gets left off the album (presumably it's only coming out as a 1CD version).

Doesn't sound too good...

Looking back, Don Davis score for JPIII was pretty good, wasn't it?

What exactly isn't to like? The first cue is really majestic, and the choir is a welcome addition. My only criticism of the first track is that I wish the final note was held about 2 seconds longer with greater fanfare, rather than emulate the hurried finish of the same theme's rendition in "Journey to the Island" (when the Jeep door opens at the bottom of the waterfall). Might not fit the scene it's written for though, so I'm just being picky.

Sounds a lot like Operation Genesis!

Wow, so true, especially from about 1:50 to 2:30. Wonder if that's intentional.

Didn't really care for that first cue or even Giacchino's adaptation of the old Williams theme for that matter. The second cue sounds more promising, but I'm just beginning to suspect that this score won't do as much for me as Jupiter Ascending and Tomorrowland do.

No worries if that's the case. I freaking love the other two scores!

It's not bad or anything, it just gives me that "meh" feeling like most of Giaccino's scores do.

I surprisingly sort of liked the first cue. I mean it doesn't entirely do it for me, especially the beginning, but it's the first time in a while where his harmonic progression doesn't bore the hell out of me!

The ostinato thing is really annoying though. Wish he didn't rely so heavily on such devices to sustain momentum, because he really doesn't need it. And it plagues William's fanfare as well! Argh.

The action cue is less impressive, though the stuff at the end sounds kind of interesting.

The compression is pretty bad on that YouTube clip, but I hope the mixing is a little better on the OST. Sounds muffled and very dry, when it should sound quite lush.

For anyone who can't wait for the podcast...

The statement of the JP theme sounds exactly like Williams... except for the little string progressions that insert Giacchino's personality in there.

That may well be why it's not clicking for me yet.

Just heard it! Really liking it, especially the more I listen! I agree with people who are saying the first track sounds a lot like Operation Genesis music, which isn't a bad thing! I'm sure it is fitting for whatever this scene is (I wonder?). The JP Island statement was FANTASTIC. Awesome performance of one of my favorite sections of it! The second track is also a lot of fun! I am going to guess that near the end that motiff is for the Indominus Rex. I heard it briefly in that clip that was released online when they are looking in its enclosure. It also featured the "glass instrument" as well. I wonder exactly what scene that music goes with, because I don't think it is for the breakout scene. Hmmm.

Anyway, for a first 10 minute look, this was fantastic! I can't wait to hear the rest.

It sounds perfectly acceptable...just regular movie music without much character but at least (enough for a lot of people) it has a 100-piece orchestra. Giacchino's simpleton rhythmizations drive me crazy, though.

See I think it does have character. He does have a real voice, and when that comes through instead of his stock/autopilot stylings, there's a lot to like. Tomorrowland suffered from a few main ideas that were painfully simple and anonymous. These two cues tell me that probably won't be an issue with this one. There's maturity and self-assuredness in this writing. Perhaps this will be the score I've been waiting for from him.

I'm not against the idea but apart from the first 00:35 of this sample that start somewhat promising it sounds as i said, like perfectly competent awe-and-wonder music like a lot of Hollywood 90's stuff by Silvestri, Debney or McNeely. Highly competent musicians, but hardly a reason for me to get very excited.
