Clone Wars Season 4

I haven't seen any of this season.... how is it compared to 1,2&3?

I've seen Superman more than any other film. The updates sounds drive me nuts. I always watch with the original mix.

another fan who gets it. Rarely do alterations to a film improve the film. it was a very bad "restoration".

FYI - My local Best buy had like twenty copies of the ET digibook and 6 copies of the Jaws digibook.

The guy in the store said they got them this week. If your wanting those digibooks and missed out on release week (like me), it might be worth checking again.

There's a 4 episode Clone story arc that's not to be missed. Some really fun stuff. Overall better than the previous seasons. Check it out and enjoy.

I just watched E.T. with the 2.0 track. It looks and sounds astoundingly great. The swears are no longer muted and E.T. gurgling sounds when he dies have been restored. In terms of the presentation of the film itself, this is probably my favorite Blu-ray release yet. It's basically flawless.

In what exact timings are these?

were these alterations in the 20th anniversary DVD too?

My boyfriend got me the new Little Shop of Horror's Bluray, that includes the original ending. I had never seen it before. Mind. Blown. It was shocking how dark it was, but I loved every minute of it! I can't decide which version I like best, since I'm so used to, and still love, the theatrical "happy ending".

Make note that the BluRay does NOT have the isolated music score the DVD did, so if you have that you will wanna hang onto it.

Blume will be along to tell us why it's better that way and why we never knew what we were missing before in this brave new world of Apple knowing things better than we do.

"Nothin' but health shit" when Michael comes home before meeting E.T., "Son of a bitch" when they escape in the van. These were muted for some reason on the DVD mixes. You could still hear them, but it was extremely low. I don't know the timings, but when E.T. dies on the table the gurgling sounds weren't there on the DVD mixes.

thanks.

So, they were muted in the DVD.

What about the 7.1 mix of the Bluray? Are they muted there too?

you've already been answered here and at bluray.com

the sound of the7.1 mix is glorious. get the blu and watch for yourself.

btw

The Spy Who Loved Me just looks fantastic. The colors are so vibrant, the film looks like it is from 2012 instead of 1977 if it weren't for the contraptions.

1) There wasn't any reply here for this specific matter. Just comments about the muting in the dvd, and the restore in Bluray 2.0 mix. No comment about the 7.1 mix.

2) Ok, i see you replied there, but i was trying to get a 2nd opinion. You know, i have encountered many times, people have different opinions on matters.

eg. concerning Conan the Barbarian Bluray: one person said that it has the original mono track, and the other was saying not! So, it's good to cross-check once in a while.

3)

get the blu and watch for yourself

I think a tiny bit of politeness it missing there. I could be mistaken, because i can't know the tone of this since it's not spoken words..

4) i can't get the BLuray yet, because it's not out here yet..

how can it be rude to suggest you get it yourself and watch. You'll be the best judge if you like it or not. And you could order it from the States, I've ordered from the other side of the pond.

well, sometimes it can be rude, it depends on the tone of voice of the other one that says it..

That's why i said, i could be mistaken..

I could order it from US or elsewhere, but I'm waiting to get it with subtitles of my country.

I need subtitles to better enjoy the film, and although I don't have a problem with English subtitles, E.T. has only English for hearing impaired which annoy me..

By the way:

Just learned about a cut of a song ("Where love is gone") in Muppet Christmas Carol, a trully greal classic film!

This was my favourite song of the film, and I remember the impact when i watched it like a kid. (i know many don't like sentimental stuff etc., but these are the things I like better)

This is getting worse and worse.

Companies cutting, altering things!

When is it going to stop???!!!

Why don't allow the customers to have both versions and choose??

what kind of subtitles do you need.

I would be fine with just plain English (not hearing impaired), but i see every release of E.T. has English for hearing impaired.

So, I'll turn to the Greek edition which will have Greek.

I just hope it has the 2.0 track too..

Ah yes, classic dubbing. Anything to make a classic movie like E.T. look like a cheap kung fu production or The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (which I adore) with its English dubbed over top of everybody's differing language, by destroying the performances of the original actors. I can't think of anything I enjoy more in a movie than dubbing.

Obviously you dont know anything about Marlee Matlin's condition.

If someone is talking out of camerashot, a deaf person is often unable to know who is speaking.

Dubbing is evil Joe!

Oh Joe, you are too wiley for me!

Do you have Down Syndrome subtitles in the US?

surely you jest. and not well.

anyone who knows me here knows I do not advocate dubbing, colorization, alterrations(except for incompleteness). Restoration is fine as long as it is true to the source and the original intent.

With Down Syndrome subtitles you feel like you being lectured by Alexcremers.

But you are not opposed to subtitles right?

no

my sister who has significant hearing loss uses them on many films and shows. Dave and I will use them on very British films where the slang is often unfamiliar. Some blu rays have 30 or 40 different subtitle options, it's insane.

Quick question for Dutch population: What would be a good source for me to order the Dutch Casino Royale Blu-ray (deluxe edition) at a reasonable price? Apparently nearly every other version is cut, including, as I understand, the one I have on DVD and even the one I saw theatrically.

The Indiana Jones set is now $50 on Amazon; a tempting price at $12.50 per film. I still think it'll drop more by the end of the year though.

Prometheus 3D is already down to $20, wish I had waited an extra week, didn't even watch it until yesterday.

here's some subtitles for hearing impaired:

(WOLF HOWLING)

JONATHAN: What was that?

NINA: Just a child

of the night, John.

Come.

Sit here beside me

on the verandah.

(DOOR CREAKING)

(FOOTSTEPS)

JONATHAN: It's chilly

out here.

NINA: Oh, no, it isn't.

So, you imagine, it is annoying.

Especially in films with heavy sound effects.

The indiana Jones collection has plain English too, but E.T. Bluray doesn't.

Are you hard of hearing? Do you read english but not understand it aloud?

No, I'm not hard of hearing. But I understand better when I read the English subtitles, than hearing the language only.

So, since you don't have a problem, please watch a film like Star Wars eg., with English for hard of hearing..

Where EVERY sound in the film, will be written to you in subtitles.

I think you could change your mind..

Really now. You wouldn't be annoyed? :sarcasm: (it's like reading the script along with watching the movie)

[Whistle Whistle]

[beep Blip Blip Beep]

[speaking Alien Language]

[speaking Alien Language]

[speaking Alien Language]

[beep Whistle Blip]

[Whistle Blip Blip]

R2?

[blip Blip]

R2-D2, it is you! It is you!

[Whistle Whistle]

Someone was in the pod.

while all this could be:

-R2?

-R2-D2, it is you! It is you!

-Someone was in the pod.

your eyes would have to come down each time to the hearing impaired subtitles, and make you not watch the picture.

and yes, i read quickly too, but still it's distracting

it takes away the emotion too.

eg in the farewell scene of e.t it could go like this:

[sound of E.T. lighting finger]

[bold dramatic music playing]

[dog barking] etc etc

how can anyone enjoy the film with these?

@Chaack

it depends what films you saw.

In adventure, sci-films, horror, war etc, this can be very distracting..

i had to watch Blade Runner with them, and it was very annoying..

Yeah, it's unfortunate that Disney has messed this up on the last three video releases. If you want the song in the film in widescreen, your only choice is laserdisc.
