  1. Gosh, calm down Alex Cremers! I'm just trying to put this whole thing in to context. It's not the end of the world if a film gets changed whether it's Star Wars or something no one really cares about. I have been involved in the film making process myself and often when I've looked back at what's been produced I think "I wish I'd done this, that or the other..." Now let's be reasonable and make up
  2. Of course I dodn't! Don't be daft! I just think we all need to remind ourselves that these films are as much George Lucas's as they are ours. If he hadn't come up with the concept in the first place we wouldn't have anything to argue over. God forbid we may be arguing over, lets say, the extended, digitally altered, director's cut of Britney Spear's Crossroads! Or the Director's Cut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture..... wait they already changed that one...
  3. I've got my fingers crosed for Episode III. Hopefully Lucas won't tamper too much with this film, especially as he's already expressed his concern it'll be the least popular of the lot because it'll be so dark.... who's he trying to kid! Does he not KNOW how successful Prisoner of Azkaban is prooving, and that's dark as hell! Surely Lucas must realise how much his prequel trilogy has been slated for one thing or another, so with any luck he'll want to go out with a bang and let John Williams do the same. Plus I don't see what people have against the Phantom Menace score. It was miles better than AOTC! Perhaps people don't like it because they heard it the second time round, mashed into the last half an hour of AOTC! I hope we never hear a score for Indy 4 because I think this film would just be plain embarrassing!!!
  4. What a can of worms this topic has opened! Look, I am by no means against Lucas making the absolutely original trilogy available, but I disagree with the fact that people feel the new effects added even in the Special Editions look strange. Ok so the new Jabba in ANH looked obscure, but I think the rest fo the added effects blended seamlessly, especially in the final battle of Yavin. As I said before as long as the changes (if ANY) are well executed, that's fine. I speculate that after all of the movies have been completed, THAT may be the time when Lucas may consider an ORIGINAL trilogy release. Something like a Classic trilogy boxed set, and may be an Ultimate Saga set, may be evn with changes to the prequels!!! May be they'll ressurect Sebastian Shaw somehow to play Anakin all the way through LOL (If they make any changes they should definitely NOT composite in Hayden's face over Seb's. His crinkled old face makes Vader's unmasking even more poignant because you realise this supremely powerful force of evil is actually a powerless, withered man). Welcome change.... as long as it's good!!!
  5. I agree that some of these things mentioned may not be true, but even though I have grown up with Star Wars, I see it like this: SOOOO many films are now being released as "Director's Editions" with extra scenes, stuff being changed or cleaned up. The only reason folk get so heated about it is because the films have a massive fan base. You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time! If Lucas didn't change the films, you may get the new generation of fans wondering why he wouldn't with all the new technology at his finger tips. That said, if any changes are to be made, they'd better be well executed. None of this AWFUL music splicing and tracking we've witnessed recently! I don't see why puppet Yoda needs changing (except for in Episode I.... what was that jaw-line about?!?). The Rancor, perhaps; Jabba the Hutt, nah! As long as any changes to the music are well done, I really don't mind that much. For me it was the music in towards the end of EpisodeII (when I statred hearing stuff from EpisodeI in a different context) which ruined th film for me. I'm willing to give Lucas a chance.... only if it's poorly done will I then pass judgment!
  6. Being in England and having already legally seen Prisoner of Azkaban quite a few things struck me about the film's score in comparison to Williams latetst Star Wars effort. Like AOTC, Azkaban has few definite themes save those for Buckbeak and between Harrry and Lupin. However, in comparison (and please correct me if you disagree) Azkaban was WAY better executed than AOTC. The horrific tracking aside, AOTC had few rousing tunes where there was potential for some. When in doubt the "Mystery" theme or "Love" theme were inserted.... and don't even get me started with the use of the Trade Federation march over the first glimpse of the Clones in the film itself. Does no one remeber the original Imperial theme from New Hope?!? Azkaban I hope will open the door for SWIII. Quidditch, Third Year from the soundtrack has all the elements of a good piece of battle music for EIII and Buckbeaks' flight has all the grandure I would expect from a Star Wars score. Williams' score for Azkaban sees him at his best. If only the same had been so for AOTC. For me that is his worst score and was made even worse by the way it was spliced into the film like an after thought. Is it perhaps possible that a complete AOTC score has not been released because in George Lucas's incessant tinkering with the Star Wars films he has decided to get Williams to rescore some of it? Let's hope!
