mrbellamy 6,286
I bet it is Mike Verta or something I could believe that, actually. The car commercial sounds a lot like Williams but the others feel more like imitations...hm. The melody in the Falcon video doesn't really seem to me like something he'd write, especially as a main theme which is what it kind of sounds like.I kinda doubt Disney/Lucasfilm would release the first bits of score with these videos. If none of it's Williams, it's really well done mimickry, especially the car one. If it is him, then he can do better. Someone should try getting ahold of Mashable on Twitter or something... Lewya 360
It sounds good but not entirely convicing imo. The car one sounds the best imo (and really good), the other ones feel a bit too lightweight/feathery for lack of better words. I also doubt it would leak like this too. Someone should try getting ahold of Mashable on Twitter or something...Yeah, the heroic themes don't really "sing" like great or even average Williams heroic themes. Also, the Imperial car music rides a little too close to the temp-track king, Holst's Mars. They're still fine Williams imitations of course (should that be the case)

mrbellamy 6,286
It's just weird because the car commercial really made me think that was him...but then the Falcon one gave me second thoughts, and the BB-8 one doesn't sound like him to me at all. So I'd rather believe that it's just some very gifted young composer who just happened to nail it on the car commercial than to accept right away that this is what Williams has been doing since January. peter.anschutz 43
If the music for the car commercial was written for that commercial alone, someone definitely went above and beyond, including hiring a sizable orchestra. Why would someone do that for a 45 second commercial (it's not like it's for the Super Bowl)? And that leads me to believe the music is lifted from somewhere, and it sure sounds a helluva lot like Williams. As for the other two videos with questionable music, they pale in comparison to that car commercial, and the music sounds different, synthy. Probably not Williams there, and definitely not coming from the same source.Has anyone tried using Shazam to ID the car commercial music?
Tom 4,654
I think the car commercial really does sound like Williams; the other two, not so much. Sharkissimo 1,973
The car ad music sounds close, but not quite right. Something's off. It's kind of like the uncanny valley with artificial intelligence. Its got so many features of Williams's classic action writing - pedal points, polytonal dissonances, chromatic parallelism, but I don't hear his "voice." His sense of line and contour. Yeah, I was reminded of his Olympics themes there too. I'm with Sharky, it's there but it's not. Gonna keep my fingers crossed that it's a very astute imitator rather than the real deal. If it's the latter, my buzz will go down a bit tbh.

Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,488
Honestly, if this turns out to not be Williams, I'll have to surrender my Williams card. It takes a lot to excite me. It's been a long dry spell when it comes to Williams music. I don't even listen to the old bastard anymore. I'm working on that. Point is, when I heard this, I instantly Williamsgasmed like I haven't since 2005 when the fucking bridge collapsed while Anakin and Obi-Wan were fighting. It has to be him. Krang 1
They debuted the voices of key TFA characters using toys yesterday. That was something I would have thought would have been presented with better audio in a trailer first. So the newly recorded score popping up in a car commercial three months out would be on par with this marketing campaign.I just can't fathom the makers of that ad choosing the most expensive option of hiring someone to make it sound like Williams instead of just using the Imperial March, the escape from cloud city or already existing star wars music. Popular Post peter.anschutz 43
Guys, the car commercial music is NOT Williams, nor Star Wars. It's taken from "Out of this World" from Experience the Adventure. I'm not sure what it is; apparently David Arnold was involved, but Shazam identifies Ben Lasker as the composer of the piece in question. You can listen to the whole thing here. The portion used in the commercial begins about halfway through. Not Mr. Big, Ricard, Cerebral Cortex and 2 others
