Raiders of the Lost Ark very closely followed by ET, which is probably only second because I tend to skip much of the "ET and Me" content. But the great parts of the score are stupendous.

No votes for E.T. yet is strange. Probably my second choice. Or Raiders. I can't choose... Empire is definitely my top choice though.

E.T.

Favourite 80s Williams score!

Also Favourite Williams score, and favourite film score ever! :)

Everything about it is perfect.

The thematic construction, the thematic connections, and the overall structure of the score from start to finish.

Toss-up between E.T. and THE LAST CRUSADE, but ultimately I'd have to pick the former (for several reasons).

Shouldn't this be in the JW forum, btw?

Shhhh!

Was tempted to ask earlier about taking bets on how long it'll take to get moved

Probably Empire Strikes Back. But it's hard to settle on just one given how incredible this decade was. Just looking at that list is crazy.

TESB. And the 2-disc presentation from RCA Victor especially. I don't need another version, not in this lifetime nor the next. :D

Jedi follows it, just about as brilliant IMO, simply because all the major themes get their most brilliant renditions here. Plus there's the Luke vs Vader duel...

And I have to pick an Indy as well. Crusade, the most entertaining of the three. It doesn't have The Desert Chase but it has the Grail theme !!!

Haven't you ever listened with headphones on and noticed that for most cues on the TESB set, the stereo field is all out of whack and the whole thing basically comes from the center?

Nope never listened on headphones, because this is a must: I listen to it loud, and I sing along with everything John wrote... it's the only way dude, and I've never noticed the thing you talk about. Ignorance is bliss...

Also for Jedi, many cues from the 1993 anthology set just sound better than the same cues on the 1997 set.

Ignorance is indeed bliss, once you hear these things you can't unhear them.

Like the wrong speeds of certain Raiders and Temple tracks in the Concord re-issues.

I do not understand the love for the Crusade. Right choice, wrong choice is brilliant but that is it. The action music is forced, easily weakest of the indy scores. Competing against scores like Jedi or Empire is just a joke. Two brilliant scores.

well the poll doesn't say what do you think is the best 80s Williams score, but what is your favourite.

So some people maybe are thinking something else is the best than the one they voted.

These don't always coincide.

Agreed. I like Indy's Very First Adventure though.

Don't really understand what you mean by forced, but to me the action music in Crusade pushes all the right buttons, it gets me excited just as 'The Battle of Hoth', 'Desert Chase' or 'The Ultimate War' does. Constructed to perfection and full of energetic stylings which was Williams' forte in those days. And yes favourite (not best) is the correct word here.

Nowadays the popular younger composers can't even write action anymore without using tired ostinati and the repeating four chords. Those are forced, without any sort of natural progression or trying to synch with what's happening on the screen.
