John Williams returns to Berlin for three shows in June 2025
Thor replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Sightseeing is pretty stressful too, when you're 92 (93 then). But yeah, crossing fingers that it will be part of a "Euro tour". I've always dreamt of him coming to Oslo. The Oslo Philharmonic is quite world reknowned, last time I checked, so that should be an attraction. -

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Thor replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
If you're a sucker for mournful Americana (which I am), then this 2009 score is for you. Beautiful, slow and poetic. Not quite on the level of Talmi's SAVANNAH, but a solid second place. -

Yes, it was a great concert regardless. But obviously coloured by the situation. -

Yes, damn that illness in 2018! Soooooo close. I would have preferred another go at London rather than Berlin again, but having him come back to Europe was way, way beyond what I expected anyway. -

Whoa, I thought Berlin and Europe was over and done with (and Williams' statements about wanting to return just "polite speak"). I'll definitely go if my money situation turns around by 2025, or whenever the tickets are put up. -

Yeah, it's a little "too much" for my taste. Might prefer Coppola's version, actually (if we discount the original Honegger for a minute). -

No, you need to get the OST. The score is static and beautiful, like a trance. But one hour suffices. -
That's impressive. With the exception of the CREATOR comment, I found myself disagreeing with basically everything you said here, LOL!

Sorry for the tiny cover, it's all I could find. This remains my favourite of Carl Davis' silent film scores, I think (out of the 20 or so I've heard, he did a LOT!). Accessible, delicious darkness, a little bit religioso. -

Fortunately, it was called just EVIL DEAD over here. It got lots of press at the time, though, and was heavily censored. VHS pirate copies of the uncensored version were doing their rounds in the underground. But I can talk about Norwegian renaming all day long. It was very common in the 80s and 90s, not so much anymore (mostly for kiddie films these days). One funny aspect is how we often prefaced many wacky comedies with the word "Hjelp" ("Help"). So you have: NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION -> HJELP, VI MÅ PÅ FERIE! -> HELP, WE MUST GO ON VACATION! CHRISTMAS VACATION -> HJELP, DET ER JULEFERIE! -> HELP, IT'S CHRISTMAS VACATION! SPINAL TAP -> HJELP, VI ER I POPBRANSJEN! -> HELP, WE'RE IN THE POP BUSINESS! AIRPLANE -> HJELP, VI FLYR! -> HELP, WE'RE FLYING! ....and many more. Loads of other things too, like DIE HARD being OPERASJON SKYSKRAPER (OPERATION SKYSCRAPER), DELIVERANCE being PIKNIK MED DØDEN (PICNIC WITH DEATH) and so on.
-
That would be great! Would love to see a comedy again that isn't too afraid to offend "current sensibilites" and thereby lose all its comic power. The original NAKED GUN movies had several skits that wouldn't work today. One of the reasons why I love them. Out of date for the win!

Will John Williams score Steven Spielberg's new UFO movie?
Thor replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I doubt the film ever comes to fruition. I don't believe a new Spielberg film is on the horizon until I know he's actually out and about, shooting it. -

Checking it out further, appears there's a remix version by Paterson himself that predates that A.I. shit. That's slightly more interesting, but still a far cry from a new David Gilmour studio album.
