A Pixar film's composer doesn't necessarily score the accompanying short, or vice versa.

I think Giacchino could still score The Good Dinosaur if Thomas Newman backs out, especially given that Giacchino and Peter Sohn, The Good Dinosaur's new director, have previously worked together on the short Partly Cloudy.

I'm honestly surprised we haven't heard more about The Good Dinosaur. Maybe we'll get a teaser attached to Inside Out.

Boy, what a time to be a Michael Giacchino fan!

Tue Feb 3 - Jupiter Ascending (Sony OST)

Fri Feb 6 - Jupiter Ascending (film)

Tue Mar 17 - Jupiter Ascending (Varese OST)

Fri May 22 - Tomorrowland (film)

Tue June 2 - Tomorrowland (OST)

Tue June 9?- Jurassic World (OST) SPECULATION

Fri June 12 - Jurassic World (film)

Tue June 16 - Inside Out (OST)

Fri June 19 - Inside Out (film)

I guessed the JW OST release date right!

And then the Tomorrowland OST ending up getting moved from the first data Amazon said!

So that means all three of Giacchino's big summer scores get released on CD on the Tuesday before their Friday film openings.

Tue May 19 - Tomorrowland (OST)

Fri May 22 - Tomorrowland (film)

Tue June 9- Jurassic World (OST)

Fri June 12 - Jurassic World (film)

Tue June 16 - Inside Out (OST)

Fri June 19 - Inside Out (film)

Sweet!

Wow. What a summer!

:woop:

Tue May 19 - Tomorrowland (OST) AND Inside Out (OST)
Fri May 22 - Tomorrowland (film)

Tue June 9- Jurassic World (OST)
Fri June 12 - Jurassic World (film)

Fri June 19 - Inside Out (film)

So, i was listening to medal of honor today...and read the track names....NO PUNS! And then i checked lost world, other medal of honor games, secret weapons... Nope either.

So it made me think, when did they start using puns (in the beginning one or two per cd, classy good word jokes, now all tracks (really) bad puns except one or two...)

Also the older tracklists are easier to know what is going on the game or film. Nowadays i have to see the film to know what the music is for.

I think it started in 2001, with Alias, and in videogames I can only think "Tanks a lot" from Call of Duty.

I guess it started when he added some member to his team that thought it was a good idea, and he agreed with him.

Or he always like it, but thought he'd never be taken seriously if he did it when his career was just starting

I believe that would be Paul Apelgren, his music editor.

According to Imdb, Giacchino has worked with three guys: Paul Apelgren, Alex Levy and Stephen M. Davis. That could explain some things.

Film music fans, as you may know, Michael Giacchino has three big scores coming this summer, Tomorrowland, Jurassic World, and Inside Out. I've now heard music from all three, and I can tell you it's fantastic stuff! As good as (or better than?) anything he's done before. I recorded an interview with Michael earlier this week, and it will air--along with premiers of some of the music--on WNYC and WQXR during Memorial Day weekend. Current favorite track: "As the Jurassic World Turns"

it's already recorded, why not air it this weekend? By Memorial Day weekend all three will have leaked.

How good or bad a film is really has nothing to do with how good or bad a score is.

@mjpardo - some like to order it as solely a listening experience. I prefer to order them to reflect the story experience for the film.

More info:

I recently interviewed Michael Giacchino (a pleasure, as always!). He supplied me with music from Tomorrowland, Jurassic World, and Inside Out, and I think all three scores are among his best. The interview and music air Saturday, May 23rd on WQXR, and again on Sunday, May 24th on WNYC -- both stations are in New York City. I'm told the music from Jurassic World and Inside Out will be world premiers!

Michael Giacchino's Three Summer Blockbusters
Composer Michael Giacchino has scored three of this summer's big movies: the special effects thrillers "Tomorrowland" and "Jurassic World," and the Pixar animated feature "Inside Out." Fresh from completing nearly five hours of music for these films, Giacchino joins David Garland to present music from "Tomorrowland," and to give us the world premier of music from "Jurassic World" and "Inside Out." Giacchino shares his thoughts and insights about the particulars of these scores, and about the art and joy of writing music for film.
A slightly different version of this show will also air on my WNYC program Spinning On Air, May 24, 2015, 8-9 pm, WNYC FM 93.9 and world-wide on wnyc.org

You can listen to the whole interview online now

https://www.wnyc.org/radio/#/ondemand/455532

I'll post my comments on the 3 scores the interview is about for those threads, but I just wanted to mention that Giacchino doesn't seem to have any other 2015 scores lined up; At the end of the interview Garland directly asks him what's next and he says he's taking the summer off and doesn't hint at anything upcoming at all.

Got interesting interview of him..

He says something about girlfriend..doesn't he married? Btw, he never seen wearing his ring, is he? Anyone know about this? *I don't mean to knock off his private life, but this thing is always bothers me somehow*

I think he and his wife, Jamie, divorced around 2009, since that was around when he stopped wearing his ring and stopped thanking her in liner notes. (He also didn't thank her when he won his Oscar.)

I actually thought he was in a relationship with Andrea Datzman (based on a tweet from 2010 by Bethany Shady, a friend of Giacchino), but I'm not sure about that.

She's a talented composer. Her and Chris Tilton's scores to Alcatraz were my favorite TV scoring of 2012. It's a crime there's been no release of them.

Hey here's a pic of Giacchino and Datzman together taken Monday
