Hlao-roo 389
For this fan, listening to "Duel of the Fates" does the trick: Yes, yes, YES! This is what I'm talking about. Now how do you feel after hearing this song? Do you not feel like you've been taken another level of maniless? Like you've experienced the most amazing thing your ears have ever heard? That's how I felt after hearing this the first time in The Phantom Menace and ever since then the feeling has never faded. For the longest time I have loved this song, it has always evoked a sense of epincess, tension and badassery that I have always known since childhood. So what makes "Duel of the Fates" one of the best songs ever? Well it just is! Sure that's no description, so allow me to try and elaborate on why I adore this song so much. I feel like everyone within the Star Wars community knows the epicness of this song, it is almost of legendary status. This song has the best combination of bombastic and omnipotent classical music and incredible choir work. From the time it begins, you are introduces to a gorgeous choir and then a collection of instruments that together builds and builds and later explodes into an immense sound of intense beauty. The song winds down to be calm, but then builds up and gets fierce as hell, like the heavens are opening up, hell is rising from the depths of the earth and both forces are clashing.I feel like I have address the man behind the music, John Williams. This man, in my opinion, is one of the most important and famous film composers in the history of film, and his work on the Star Wars films is nothing short of incredible, YES, even with the prequel films. Williams knows his music, his collection of work is varied and delivers different levels of awesomeness and while he crafted so many good pieces in the Original Trilogy, I feel like this is on another level. The intensity of this song sets my soul on fire and is pretty much the best song of the Prequel Trilogy. So to conclude "Duel of the Fates" by John Williams is simply one of the best songs in existence. It is so gorgeous, ferocious and manly! Over the years I have come to love this song more and more. The super kick ass nature of this song is just off the radar and as a fan of classical music and an overall fan of film soundtracks, this is godly to me. This is perfection. Thor 7,492
I don't know about 'manly'. In general, film music fandom isn't really considered a manly interest. But Williams has the ability to do both testosterone- and estrogen-driven music, however one defines what that is. Jilal 569
Crusade of the Slave Children is such a fucking epic song that it makes me want to run naked through the streets of Brussels, painted red and blue, whilst wildly swaying a battle-ax around with one hand and holding a burning heart in the other, singing along with Williams's epic song. Hlao-roo 389
The blogger talks a lot about how "ferocious" and "omnipotent" Williams can be -- and, don't get me wrong, he is all those things and more -- but, speaking from experience, I know Williams can be sensitive and gentle, too. After I started exposing myself to John Williams in earnest, I could tell from the way he scored Sabrina that he can be whatever you need him to be. As to whether that exposure makes me any more "manly," what I do know is that there are few things as richly human as the experience of music. If you believe, as I do, that an appreciation of art can ennoble the heart, mind, and soul, then I can scarcely imagine a manlier pursuit.
