#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Just wondering which of Williams' 3 Oscar winning scores for a Spielberg film is nowadays seen at the best by JWFan.
crocodile 8,000
Jaws. His most accomplished work ever. Schindler's List would come second. E.T. would be the last one.Karol
Quintus 5,399
ET beats Jaws for me, by a very small margin. Barely. Gruesome Son of a Bitch
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
It would be very very hard to chose a definite favorite between those two, and would mainly depend on what my mood happens to be.Schindlers List is a great score in it's own right. But a distant third.
Quintus 5,399
I could watch Jaws now and quite easily switch my vote probably.
Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,488
Jaws and E.T. are both perfect scores and some of Williams' defining iconic moments. It's the stuff he'll be most remembered for and rightfully so.
publicist 4,643
While JAWS is one of my lonely island movies (E. T. is certainly not) i had to chose E. T. for it is just a better overall composition due to its operatic nature.

Koray Savas 2,251
It used to be Schindler's List, but I haven't listened to it in so long that E.T. probably takes it. I gave Schindler the pity vote anyway though.
King Mark 3,631
E.T. is the win for the classic Williams sound.

King Mark 3,631
Jaws, Star Wars , E.T. are 100% deserving of the Oscars and the only rightful winnersI think SL won more because it was caught up in the movie's sweep. It's one of the few times I say that for JW. A lot of JW scores deserve that # 5 Oscar spot more (JP,TESB, Raiders,Superman, HPSS)

crocodile 8,000
Oh I don't know, KM. It's one of those works that gets more respect from that other crowd. You know, people who puke when they think of Williams' 80's magic. Which is only fair, Schindler's List has nothing in common with any of those. And it's a great thing! Imagine: John Williams can do more than one thing!I for one never got anything from E.T, sadly. The film is boring and I hated it as a kid. So there's my emotional link to it then. It's one classic JW score I never connected with and that was even before I was aware of its status.Having said that, the original 1982 album is rather good. Much better than 1996/2002 ones.Karol

Gnome in Plaid 219
Schindler's List just to be contrary; I put it and E.T. roughly as equals. mstrox 6,651
Jaws is good, but probably among my least favorite Williams/Spielberg scores as a listening experience. Maybe if I'd have grown up with the OST, as opposed to the complete expanded version, my feelings would be stronger for it...E.T. is maybe my favorite Williams score and maybe my favorite Spielberg movie, so it wins by any metric. Quintus 5,399
Howard Goodall on tonight's Classic FM at the Movies said he thinks Schindler's List is Williams' greatest film score. And he loves Superman and Star Wars, he always plays Williams stuff every Saturday. But it goes to show how the classical luvvie perspective has quite different tastes and desires to us lot.So whenever I see KM casually downplaying the influence and power of the Schindler's score I find it really easy and natural to dismiss his view on the matter. Easy as 123.

Genuine folks in the classical world appreciate Williams on every level, trust me.
