  1. Well, I can say that the variations are very cool. I especially dug the percussion segment (timpani playing melody). Its very well written, and if you want to play a Happy Birthday piece, this would be the one to play... just make sure you have enough percussionists, as its a doozy in the second variation.
  2. I have: Star Wars Phantom Menace Hogwarts Forever Happy Birthday Variations Adventures on Earth (which I had John sign at Tanglewood in 2001) Call of the Champions Cowboys I love them to death, and they ARE NOT arrangements... They are the exact concert works that John writes for professional orchestras, as opposed to the other series in the Hal Leonard catalog that always seem to fall short. -J.J.
  3. Just so you know, Symphony No. 1 - The Lord of the Rings by Johan De Meij was made for wind ensemble and was only recently ARRANGED for full orchestra. I suggest picking up a copy of the original as I feel the full orchestra version is "eh" compared to what the original is. For an answer to the question of "how is it?" Well it is broken up into 5 movements, like a symphony. I. GANDALF (THE WIZARD) II. LOTHLORIEN (THE ELVENWOOD) III. GOLLUM (SMEAGOL) IV. JOURNEY IN THE DARK a. The Mines of Moria b. The Bridge of Khazad-dum V. HOBBITS Each movement represents a part of the books. Now as the symphony is presented, it is not in chronolgical order, as to what each movement represents. It is in "best listening experience" order, so to speak. My only advice is to go out and find it. The most readily available version is the one by the LSO, which is good, but not authentic to the intended presentation, which is that of a wind symphony. -J.J.
  4. Welcome Sarah ( I assume thats your name). I hope you have a good time discussing film scores and such here, just be sure not to make this place your life JK Regards, JAS Hook, Captain.... I mean.... J. J. The Mystical Yoda Claus
  5. Yes, but also the VERY sucessfull Lethal Weapon series, good/great films, like Maverick, The Goonies and Ladyhawke. Stefancos- who just ripped the Fanclub Credits from the FOTR DVD. He is also the director of the new Micheal Crichton movie - Timeline I really hope he commissions Mr. Williams to do the score to that one. It would be an awesome score. -St. Yodes - STILL wowwed....
  6. Wow. Hobgood is an idiot. It took this to remove me from my slumber. First he says that Nemesis is 20x better than AOTC. Then he says AOTC is one of the better Star Wars scores. Wow. Now, I admit, I like AOTC's score. But to say its one of the better SW scores is a bit of an overstatement. So, appearently Nemesis is more than 20x better than some of the other SW scores, like SW or TESB, or ROTJ, or TPM...Wow. I understand being opinionated, but to state these things as they are fact pure and simple is simply astounding. Does this guy actually hear on the same level as the human ear? Wow. I dont think I can stress that emotion enough...wow. Wowwed by the wow idiocy wow, The wow mystical wow yoda wow claus wow Wow.
  7. This is a good soundtrack. Finally, a good treatment. I will have more of a review later, but I have homework to do. Quick thought - of all the people that got it already, were yours numbered on the back, because mine wasn't. Just wonderin. -St. Yodes
  8. I, too, agree with you Neil. Very good article/post. -St. Yodes

  12. A.I. Only because of its inventive nature. Don't get me wrong, I love both score a lot...after all, I did travel 2000 miles just to make a bootleg of the world premeire of 'Hedwigs Theme,' which is still travelling the net to this day! -St. Yodes
  13. Im not sure why you think HP was a more difficult score to write. HP was more a 'traditional' Williams score than AI. AI was a more of an experiment, making more difficult. (Read: Doing things differently takes more time, energy, and effort) I can't and won't claim to know if one was more difficult to write than the other. -St. Yodes
  14. Woohoo, I got it to work! Yes, the post above is me. -St. Yodes
