@Jay, are the booklet covers of the A.I.-set and the Superman-set digitally available? Those look too good to be withheld from us!

Sometimes MV posts the booklet covers of their 3CD sets on Facebook or Twitter, and we debuted the TLW one in our JWFan interview with MM, but I don't know of a single archive with everything in it.

There should be a cover archive for JW releases on this website.

I might be crazy, but I thought there used to be a Where Dreams Are From version with just orchestra and no vocal out there. I remember a cello instead of a vocal. I swear I used to play it nonstop on a CD I made, but going through the LLL release A.I. can’t find a version of it. And my iTunes for my AI is missing cues so who knows if I have lost it, it never existed, or it’s embedded somewhere in the LLL.

Anyone remember such a version?

Perhaps the Stored Memories track on the LLL set? It contains a piano and solo cello rendition of Monica's theme but that is relatively brief. But other than that I don't know of any full length cello version of Monica's theme without the vocals.

Also could you be mixing Monica's theme up with the Blue Fairy theme as there is a longer rendition of the Blue Fairy theme on solo cello in The Specialist Visits.

A C&C playlist of this score using the LLL set is missing.

Why would you need one when the set plays in chronological order anyway? Well apart from the Theme from A.I. closing disc 1, Journey Through the Ice is presented in both forms in the middle of disc 2 and Theme from A.I. with vocals closes disc 2.

Where to put the source track Dr. Knows and stuff like that?

So it's the only one track from the 3rd CD we can add to the playlist? And maybe the Lara Fabian duet at the very end?

Neither version of the song For Always was used in the film itself.

The Biker Hounds (Extension) would go in the middle of The Moon Rising/The Biker Hounds but that would require some editing.

You could add the Abandoned in the Woods (album version) in the C&C list after Where Dreams Are Born since it was intended at some point as the second half of the end credits but ultimately wasn't used and they tracked in choral music from Journey Through the Ice instead.

Is the album version a completely different recording. If yes, I wonder why it wasn't included on disc 2 in the main program at the originally intended place.

There are still posters on JWFan who don't own the LLL A.I. set? Wowzers!

Cannot recommend this set highly enough. Easily one of the Maestro's best scores, a true masterwork. I owned both the OST and Academy Promo before purchasing the LLL and they pale in comparison. Such a lovingly crafted release.

A.I. should've ended with the boy asking the statue of the blue fairy to make him real. That's what Kubrick would've done.

No, he wanted it the way as can now be seen.

Didn't Spielberg say that's the ending Kubrick wanted?

Did he? Dunno. I never watched any A.I. making of doc.

Everyone shat on the ending when it was actually Kubrick's idea.

And so was the cute talking teddy bear sidekick.

The version Spielberg made followed religiously the extended outline as prepared by Kubrick. But then, that means nothing. On most of his films Kubrick would go through hundreds of versions. Man was like a computer exploring every imaginable option. There were some really bad ideas in some of the early versions of his other films. It's hard to say what his version A.I. would have been like. His projects were always in constant flux.

It could well be the most disturbed, dark and haunting ending to any Spielberg film.

For a minute I thought you were talking about KotCS.

I would never describe this ending as happy but I don't subscribe to the idea that it's somehow really disturbing and dark and twisted either.  It is what is shown - bittersweet.

The idea is that an infantile robot that didn't understand human culture or emotions and was disturbingly obsessed with changing itself and gaining a woman's affection was the closest link to humanity. It's realistic and relatable.

That's the same way I see the ending and I didn't realize it was interpreted in different ways by other people

When I saw the movie a few times in high school, I saw the ending as saccharine, but in the good Spielberg way.

When I saw the movie again once more as an adult, maybe five years ago?, I saw it like crumbs and Jay.

Yea when I saw it as a 20 year old kid in theaters in the summer of 2001 I don't think I really understood everything going on

I think on your first time watching, especially if you're younger, you instinctively just focus on and try to empathise with David without necessarily realising that bigger picture yet.
