Conrad Pope's music is often great and stands testament to the fact that he needs to score more films.Vermeer's theme sounds exquisite, and very European. It already takes the great thematic material and musical colours from the original scores and allows it to blossom into this wonderful piece that plays out very much like a cello concerto as you say. What I'm especially fond of is how the ethnic elements are translated into an orchestral setting.And that final movement is phenomenal!I would love to hear this play live someday. It's a different beast altogether, and like you say, the Jaws 2 of the Jurassic Park franchise. I love Williams in super hyperactive mode! The action writing is just phenomenal! It was hard avoiding the temptation to get my head to stop moving, or my hands to stop air-conducting (which would be rather embarrassing considering I'm in the library right now). There's a healthy amount of foreshadowing, not least of which the moment you mentioned, but it also captures the gentle tone of the England scenes.
