La-La Land Records and NBC Universal proudly present the original soundtrack to the SyFy Channel special event BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: BLOOD & CHROME, composed by Bear McCreary (THE WALKING DEAD, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, EUREKA, TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES).
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome(a prequel to the critically acclaimed hit series, Battlestar Galactica ) takes place in the midst of the First Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly finds himself at odds with his co-pilot, the battle-weary officer Coker (Ben Cotton). With only 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine escort mission with an enigmatic passenger (Lili Bordan) turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.
Acclaimed composer McCreary returns to the BSG universe with his amazing musical arsenal, launching a breathtaking score that recalls his famed GALACTICA sound while energizing it in exciting new sonic directions. Produced by Bear McCreary and Ford A. Thaxton, and mastered by Patricia Sullivan, this special release is limited to 3000 units. CD Booklet contains exclusive comments from the composer.

MV has posted a few tidbits on FSM

What are the odds soundtrack fans will ever see expanded scores for the Transformers and/or Nolan's Batman Trilogies? Whether in a boxed set or individual releases, I'd love to have them.

Craig

No plans for those titles at this time

MV

"Any news on releases for April?", he asked, hopefully.

It's looking like we have 3 titles coming out on April 9 and then nothing else for the rest of April. May 7 would be the next release date.

MV

Wondering what the third one is... besides those Ten Commandments and Police Academy box sets )

Police Academy is not a box set and we are not releasing 10 Commandments (but we are prone to breaking them every now and then)

MV

New tidbit:

Caprica - May (tentative)

X Files Vol 2 - July (tentative)

More tidbits from the same thread

1. Would love to do original T-cats some day

2. No Beltrami planned for this year

3. Kamen is coming in 2013, but not sure when

MV

PLEASE show Faltermeyer some love Lala. How has his scores remained under lock and key for so long?

We would love to someday but this is a very very very very very very very very very complicated matter.

And MV just basically confirmed a Police Academy release of some sort is coming, still in the same thread

I've seen a few dates floating around for Police Academy? Has there been any confirmation on whether it's going to be released in March, April or May? Been waiting for this one for a long time!
And this is why we don't like to talk about Fight Club.
It will be out when it comes out
MV

LOL I'm out of it, didn't even realize they announced next week's releases 2 hours ago

THE CHALLENGE
MUSIC BY JERRY GOLDSMITH
LLLCD 1248
LIMITED EDITION OF 3000 UNITS
RETAIL PRICE: $19.98
Produced by MV Gerhard
Mastered by James Nelson
Liner Notes by Jeff Bond
Art Direction by Mark Banning
We are very excited to be re-releasing one of Mr Goldsmith’s coolest action scores of all time to the John Frankenheimer directed thriller THE CHALLENGE (aka SWORD OF THE NINJA; aka THE EQUALS). This 1982 modern day samurai yarn was scored in arguably Jerry Goldsmith’s greatest and most diverse years as a composer (other scores in 1982 include First Blood, Poltergeist, Secret of NIHM and Inchon). This newly remastered edition features new liner notes by Jeff Bond (celebrating his 50th Jerry Goldsmith project as a writer) and incredible artwork by Mark Banning. As an added bonus we have corrected the finale and replaced it with the proper take (the bonus track includes the other take released on the previous version).
(Please note that it was Mr. Goldsmith himself that wanted the incorrect (and his preferred) take to be included on the Prometheus release and was no fault of the label.)
Next up:
THE HOLE
Music by Javier Navarrete
LLLCD 1247
Limited Edition of 3000 units
Retail Price: $19.98
Produced by Javier Navarrete and Dan Goldwasser
Mastered by Doug Schwartz
Art Direction by Dan Goldwasser
Spanish composer Javier Navarrete fills in Jerry’s shoes exquisitely with this creepy, sensitive gothic horror score to Joe Dante’s latest opus, THE HOLE. Like his score to the brilliant Pan’s Labyrinth, the score to The Hole is designed to scare, inspire and awe its listeners.
From visionary director Joe Dante comes a suspense thriller that explores the fears and secrets buried deep in the human mind. Life couldn’t possibly get worse, or so thought 17 year old Dane (Chris Massoglia) and his 10 year old brother Lucas (Nathan Gamble), when their single mother Susan (Teri Polo) uproots them from New York City to the sleepy little town of Bensonville. For Dane the only exciting thing about their new town is the beautiful girl next door, Julie (Haley Bennett). With Susan spending more and more time at work, Dane and Lucas are left unattended to explore the depths of their eerie new residence. With Dane paying more attention to Julie, he has far less time and patience for his little brother. But then everything changes when they find a sinister bottomless hole under a locked trap door in the basement. As the brothers experiment with the hole they realize that the cold pit goes on forever. They drop a nail and never hear it hit bottom. They lower a flashlight and a video camera and they get consumed by the darkness. Hoping for some answers about the house's past, Dane and Lucas bring Julie in on their new discovery. When the hole is exposed, evil is unleashed. With strange shadows lurking around every corner and past nightmares coming to life, the trio will have to come face to face their darkest fears to put an end to THE HOLE.
Both cd’s go on sale Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 1 pm pst
See y’all back then!

There is no speculation -- its Roque Banos' score to the new EVIL DEAD. It's a play on words of the ad campaign.

CHALLENGE_Web.jpgLa-La Land Records and CBS present the remastered re-issue of legendary composer Jerry Goldsmith’s (PATTON, THE OMEN, ALIEN, BASIC INSTINCT) original score to the 1982 motion picture THE CHALLENGE (aka SWORD OF THE NINJA and THE EQUALS), starring Scott Glenn, Toshiro Mifune and Donna Kei Benz, and directed by John Frankenheimer. Mr. Goldsmith scored this exciting, modern-day samurai action/drama during what was arguably one of the greatest, most diverse moments of his career (other films he scored that were released in ’82 were FIRST BLOOD, POLTERGEIST, SECRET OF NIHM and INCHON). The composer’s work here is complex action scoring at its finest. Produced by MV Gerhard and remastered by James Nelson, this release features spectacular sound and includes the film version of the finale, (The finale track on the previous Prometheus release – found here as a bonus track - was an alternate take, preferred by Goldsmith and placed on that album per his request). hole_Web.jpgLa-La Land Records and Bold Films present the original motion picture score to the feature film coming-of-age-horror-fantasy THE HOLE, starring Chris Massoglia, Haley Bennett and Teri Polo, and directed by Joe Dante. Acclaimed composer Javier Navarrete (PAN’S LABYRINTH, MIRRORS, WRATH OF THE TITANS, 47 RONIN) finds the perfect pitch for Dante’s thoughtful spookfest, fashioning a beautifully haunting orchestral score that is worthy of following in the footsteps of the director’s previous collaborations with composer Jerry Goldsmith. Here, Navarrete excels as he did with PAN’S LABYRINTH, creating music that evokes the wonder and mystery of childhood, while also finding terror in exploring its deepest, darkest fears. Produced by Dan Goldwasser and Javier Navarrete and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this special release is limited to 3000 units. PRODUCED BY NEIL S. BULK and LUKAS KENDALL

Saddle up and head on out West for a terrific John Wayne twofer…
La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures are proud to announce the CD debuts of Elmer Bernstein’s classic scores to THE SHOOTIST and THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER. For THE SHOOTIST, this CD presents the score for the first time in its original form, mastered from ¼ʺ stereo mixes. As for THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER Elmer Bernstein re-recorded and arranged his music from the film for a Columbia Records soundtrack LP released along with the film. The soundtrack album includes adaptations of film cues, sometimes combining two or more into a single track, while other selections begin with music from the film but continue as extended arrangements of specific melodies—which receive more play and development than in the actual film score. Included in this release is the title song performed by Johnny Cash as well as the John Wayne narration. As an added bonus we have also included a version of the title song performed by Ernie Sheldon that was released as a rare single back when the film came out. Sadly nothing of the original score has survived but luckily the fine folks at SONY MUSIC discovered the original master tapes for the Katie LP.
Booklet has nice reversible cover design by Dan Goldwasser -- Shootist on one side and Katie Elder on the other.
Next up, we go from the Old West to the New West…
GRAND CANYON
MUSIC BY JAMES NEWTON HOWARD
LLLCD 1251
LIMITED EDITION OF 2000 UNITS
RETAIL PRICE: $19.98
PRODUCED BY NICK REDMAN
MIXED, EDITED AND MASTERED BY MIKE MATESSINO
LINER NOTES BY DANIEL SCHWEIGER
ART DIRECTION BY DAN GOLDWASSER
La-La Land Records and Twentieth Century Fox are proud to announce a newly remastered, expanded edition of James Newton Howard’s wonderfully diverse score to the Lawrence Kasdan 1991 film GRAND CANYON. This new edition features more than 25 minutes of additional score not found on the original release (Please Note the Warren Zevon song is not included on this CD). JNH’s ethereal powerful score is the driving force behind this multi-storied character study of Angelenos just trying to make their way through life in the crazy City of Angels.
And last, but certainly not least…

I like Fanfare/End Titles, and My Sister Lives Around Here/Those Rocks, but I was never drawn to anything else in the score.

The Main Titles on YouTube are waaayy too late 80s/early 90s synth for me.

Never having seen the film, I had no idea there was any reason to expand it. Looking forward to this, it's a great score. And a great sounding album, I hope the new release can measure up to it.

Spring is in full bloom and what better way to celebrate than letting you know what is hatching at the ol' Triple L

The following is a brief rundown of what we have in store for the next 2 months. More specific info to follow closer to release dates.
And, please note, dates are subject to change:
On May 7, we will be releasing two great soundtracks:
WILLARD by Shirley Walker – my all time favorite Walker film score. A true masterpiece!
BANDOLERO by Jerry Goldsmith – a new and improved edition with stunning art direction by Jim Titus and insightful liner notes by Julie Kirgo
THE CHALLENGE also comes back in stock on May 7 – new and improved as well. Those who ordered the earlier version of our release need not do anything. A new version will be sent out to you a soon as the cds come in.
May 21 will bring two soundtracks – one from the world of television and one from the world of film:
ROSEWOOD – expanded 2 cd set of one of John Williams most emotional scores. This release marks the first in a series of soundtracks set to come out this year in celebration of Warner Bros 90th Anniversary.
CHARMED – CBS and La-La Land our proud to announce this officially licensed 2 cd set featuring the very best music composer J Peter Robinson wrote for the quirky television series.
Tentatively scheduled for June 4 and June 18 are
CAPRICA – 2 cd set featuring the best music Bear wrote for this Battlestar Galactica prequel series.
INTO THE WEST – 2 cd set features fantastic music from the Emmy winning score from the epic mini-series by Geoff Zanelli
I, THE JURY – awesome Bill Conti score to the 1980’s crime thriller
YOUNG JUSTICE – featuring music from both seasons of the under-rated Cartoon network animated tv show.
We may swap some titles out for others that may be done first but this gives you an idea of what we have in store for you guys over the next two months
And just a reminder -- don't miss out on the awesome signing this Saturday, April 27 at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, CA. The composer and director of the new hit horror film EVIL DEAD will be there signing cds and posters from the film. You can order the cds at www.darkdel.com

X Files Vol 2 is still scheduled for late July/August

Wyatt Earp is still in artwork approval stage. Hopefully it will be approved soon. If so, it COULD come out in June. We just don't know.
The rights to Marselis' Rosewood score were retained by him so nothing of his work will appear on our John Williams release.
And a special note, we will not be at COMIC CON this year. Sadly our arrangements for our usual table fell through. We hope to return to the convention next year.
In the meantime, we will still be working hard on trying to get those planned Comic Con titles out to you this July.
There will be no JULY 2 release this year due to the Independence Day Holiday. Our next release after JUNE 18 will be JULY 16.

And a Police Academy update

Any news on Guttenberg and the gang? I realize Robert Folk probably wasn't supposed to spill the beans on Twitter but, after Star Trek: TMP, the Police Academy scores are my #2 holy grail*.

(*This probably says more about me than anything else!)

Keep up the good work, gentleman.

As a matter of fact Mr Folk is tweaking the producer's assembly as I type. Expect a late summer/Fall release

This bizarre, eclectic, and brilliant horror score is filled with some of the best music Walker ever wrote. Any score that features a half a dozen or so accordions and makes them sound as frightening as Herrmann’s strings from Psycho gets a thumbs up in our book. Sadly, the uber creepy rendition of BEN, as performed by star Crispin Glover, was not available for licensing. Liner notes by John Takis include an exclusive interview with director Glen Morgan.

Produced by Nick Redman and Mike Matessino, with Matessino handling remastering duties, this long out of print score makes its way back into the film score collecting spectrum with some improvements over the past releases, including a fun extra bonus track of the Main Title sans the whistle. Insightful liner notes by Julie Kirgo and fantastic art direction by Jim Titus make this a must buy for any fans of Western scores or Jerry Goldsmith!

Congrats to Mr. Takis on another set of notes for his favorite composer!

I wonder if La-La Land will ever secure the rights for Turbulence or get Superman: The Animated Series off the ground. But Willard really does sound promising.
