Howard Shore's The Desolation Of Smaug (Hobbit Part 2)

They're talking about what it was like on the last day of shooting....

No matter how you feel about these movies when all is said and done, it's going to be really difficult to say goodbye next year. It'll probably be a very long time until Middle-Earth comes back.

I was actually hoping they would expand on that and that jewel motif.

They? ;)

Oh yeah, all those ghostwriters from Eastern Europe chained to keyboards and computers whose passports were taken away and they're now forced to write Middle Earth music.

That's what I meant. ;)

There were some nice bits of new footage in there. I didn't like Smaug's voice at the end. And why is there so much focus on the AUJ prologue stuff? I was hoping they wouldn't extend that here (especially considering I find that one of the weakest parts of AUJ).

Sometimes this place makes me ashamed to be a part of it. Why the sad face? Why is anyone here knocking the song before they've heard a note of it? Who cares who wrote it? Plan 9 wrote the Misty Mountains melody, and that's awesome!

Seriously people, wait until you've heard the thing before you start dissing it. This isn't the comments section of youtube, we are better than this!

Anything not written by Shore is a sad face ;) Not knocking the song, just the news!

For a minute, I thought you posted a link to the samples.

Imagine how I felt when I opened the stupid link...

Curious about the song though. Never heard of Ed Sheeran before.

EDIT: Ahh, thanks Jason. Makes it much less misleading :P

Shore's Music As Heard on the Production Video:

0:45-0:54: New action material

1:04-1:06: Sounds like the starting pitches of The Threat of Dol Goldur

1:07-1:35: New action material

2:04-2:25: Erebor Theme + Thorin's Theme (not sure if it's new though)

2:30-2:42: Definitely a new statement of Bilbo's Fussy Theme

4:21-4:33: New playful, hobbit-like material

5:36-5:50: New, fully orchestral recording of "The Edge of the Wild"

6:29-6:56: Woodland Realm music

6:56-7:40: An ominous moment with a soprano (not sure if its a boy soprano) singing on top, followed by suspense material

7:41-8:00: Same action stuff heard at 1:07

8:03-end: It's The Threat of Mordor itself (ending on a darker note), not the varied Necromancer motif (Threat of Dol Goldur) we heard in AUJ.

Love that action (almost DOTF sounding) statement of Bbilbo Fussy theme!

I think the choral bit from the film version of Radagast the Brown is in there (though cut off)

What production video? Link?

How about German track titles?

1. Die Reise zum Erebor

2. Wilderland

3. Ein Nekromant

4. Beorns House

5. Düsterwald

6. Fliegen und Spinnen

7. Das Waldland-Reich

8. Das Sternenlicht-Fest

9. Wilde Fässer

10. Der Waldfluß

11. Bard, ein Seestadt-Mann

12. Die Hochmoore

13. Die Natur des Bösen

14. Beschützer des gemeinen Volks

:wizard:

Der Waldfluß oder WIlde Fässer könnten auch Namen von Heimatkanal-Schnulzen sein ;)

Ah, got it. Never watch any of these things unless someone says "new music!" ;)

The Woodland Realm music, as well as the boy soprano afterwards sound like it's going to be pretty awesome and mesmerizing. I think I can hear *some* of the sound Shore is going for in Mirkwood. That Thorin's theme recording is new to my ears (different orchestration).

And the video posted on the last page, with Bard speaking the poem, is the first video that actually excites me about the movie. At last some sense of sensibility, and not some Hollywood-ised trailer crap.

Btw, this whole Ed Sheeran business leaves me kind of cold. After Neil Finn, what did you expect? My expectations for the song weren't high to begin with, and I wasn't let down.

But boy oh boy, if you thought Enya was too out there ....

Shore + Choir = epic win

I do think however that is the Necromancer version of the Threat of Mordor at the end. I also can't wait to hear the fully reworked version of The Edge Of The Wild.

Also, assuming the track list is correct, would "Beyond The Forest" be the bonus track?

The Necromancer version of that motif is different in its pitches. I believe Shore has developed The Threat of Goldur to return back to its original form since we see the armies heading off to Mordor. It was a really cool statement!

I especially loved the reworked bit with The Edge of the Wild (those high string patterns are great) and the Woodland Realm music sounds like it'll knock our socks off.
