  1. We're a bit behind in Australia - Season 2.0 just out on DVD, and Season 3 a while away...I've located a not-quite legit site that tapes tv shows and puts them on the net, only in the last few days... Let me just say I almost wish I'd waited for the DVD release, because watching on blocky downloaded and compressed streaming is not doing this show justice. Best tv show ever - just finished watching the Exodus 2-parter...absolutely breathtaking in every conceivable area...must have replayed that Galactica plunge from the sky sequence a hundred times....and there was so much more... Not a good site to find when I've got all this end-of-year school marking to do...!
  2. I didn't mind Voyager, and my favourite season was the 4th, with a few from later seasons on the list too. TNG was always worth a look, and we all love TOS for its camp value! Enterprise has been handled badly by Australia's 9 Network (they f### everything up), but it was starting to get interesting once they found their way after the first season... But DS9 rules the ST universe for me, and while I always knew why, it's been hammered and underlined by the best tv show ever, in my opinion - the new BSG. Serialisation and character development, and continuation and buildup of themes and stories and...all sorts of stuff from all that to the improved visuals and costuming and makeup (I was royally sick of every second TNG alien being a human with a new version of a deformed nose or ears, and then the copout episode where they claimed all races in the galaxy were seeded from a "proto-human"...) - you can make things look better, when you get to use the costume again in the next episode... So it's DS9 for me, the closest thing to what I think is my type of tv show, the new BSG...
  3. Ok, now that we've got that p!$$ing contest out of the way, everybody listen to Bruckhorn. There are too many percussion variants to have a rock solid standard, so a key at the beginning is the best way to avoid confusion. Happens in most rock transcriptions (and yes, that's also because most buyers of those scores can't read!). I would also say that you line the toms on adjacent lines AND spaces (e.g. top F-E-D-C, etc), and not FACE or EGBD as was suggested earlier.
  4. Thanks fellas. The Battle in the Snow, the Asteroid theme, and Across the Stars are on the short list for the next ones, and I'm working an acoustic fingerstyle version of the Mos Eisley cantina band up to speed...might not make it, so I might have to deliberately...uhh...make it work at a slower speed...there might be a funk version of Duel of thye Fates...the only ones I won't touch are the Imperial March and the Main Theme - been done to death! These are all for my own amusement and trying out a techniques for previously stated aims, so I hope these misguided tributes give everyone a guffaw at the very least, if not a warm glow of happiness....!
  5. Just finished another one. Into The Trap from ROTJ, to join Duel of the Fates, which was completed a couple of months ago. www.gibbke.moonfruit.com go to Finished Instrumentals, where you'll then see a page for each one...
  6. How does that refer to John Williams? Ummm...it doesn't, as I hastily pull out my BSG boxed set...but have you noticed how much Stu Phillips sounds like John Williams when you stick your foot in your mouth...?
  7. You guys over there don't know how lucky you are, because not only are we behind on BSG, the big networks over here treat Sci-Fi, etc, in a very half-@ssed way - Star Trek has been decimated by Channel 9 - it's video rental only if you want continuity, and there are several other apparently great shows we know little about here - no Sci-Fi Channel either. I was opposed to the new BSG to start with, when I first heard about the new show. That's an important part of my childhood they were messing with there, and the initial blurbs weren't that promising, made it all sound like a Dick Wolf franchise. But it cr@ps all over the old one in every conceivable way, fixed up every flaw and made it a hell of a lot more entertaining and realistic and…it just makes more sense...still love the old one, but for different reasons…here in Oz, we're still waiting for Season 2 to start, but we managed to score the Season 2.0 DVD's from England recently, so we're up to the return of the Pegasus in our house. The only thing I wish they'd do is change the flight helmets from the current Wing Commander ripoff to the one they used back then - the Egyptian motifs, and little clues as to the origins of humanity all wrapped up in their uniform styles, was one thing the old BSG did in a pretty cool way - new BSG sometimes looks like West Wing…used to be a bit disappointed with the new Galactica compared to the old model, but when I realised it was meant to be ugly (in the middle of decommissioning and outer hull scrapping when the attack came), and the Pegasus was how Galactica would have looked fully built, it added a validity that even the old one didn't have…love the percussion soundtrack, and the way they film the battle sequences, though…would also love to see a few more homages to the old show, like an old cylon walking around (surely not every cylon outpost is filled with the newest gadgets), Ovions…I know that landrover will make an appearance - as long as they stay away from Muffy, Dr Z, Mike Brady, and the boy scout patrol, all is good…and, making this post actually refer to JW, seeing as that's where we are, I like the way they've treated the old theme (a military march in the first episode), but a bit more would be desirable - not his best work, but still pretty good…
  8. Thoughts and Ramblings: 1) I can't wait for this, simple as that! 2) Irony - taking Battlestar Galactica to court in the late 70's accusing them of rip-off, to find that nearly 30 years later the best sci-fi show on the box at the moment, and the most innovative in its approach is the new BSG (ok, hand-held video isn't exactly new if you follow any of those Law and Order cop shows, but with the serialisation, story depth, effects, camera-work, acting quality…there isn't a sci-fi show anywhere like BSG) - this is the direction that the new SW show would need to go, or go somewhere different AGAIN from the old style symbolised by Star Trek, etc. Either way, I think we'll get something good…forced upon them by Karma… 3) Two possible storylines impose themselves, and I can't see how you could go anywhere else - the rise of the Rebellion, or a storyline that is completely and as far removed as possible. The Rebellion would have to revolve around the Emperor, Alderaan, Leia, Organa, and most importantly, Mon Mothma. A Boba Fett storyline would appeal to his fans, but I can't see how you would get the necessary story depth - this is the SW UNIVERSE we're talking about. You have to take into account all of these different locations, impossible for just a lone bounty hunter. A story removed from it all would be unlike anything ever done in SW history, and very risky, especially since they've apparently committed to 100 episodes already - going out on a limb (even the Ewoks movies were rooted in the familiar) would run into studio obstacles no matter how independent Lucas prides himself on being. My money is on the Rebellion, with plenty of space battles, new locations, and a long running serialisation - thank you BSG, and lets not start getting silly in the courts, fellas…and don't forget that Lucas love his old Buck Rogers anyway…serials with plenty of familiar faces and places...
  9. Arrogant Barstard. Get f###ed. I'll go where I like, when I like, and say what I like. You want to answer in the spirit the bump was intended, do it, otherwise f### off. What, is "1004" a frigging military rank...? Don't see any credentials anywhere, bud...nothing I should be respecting... Pipe down, both of you. Sorry, my bad...
  10. Didn't I guess it right here? Neil Whoops...overly quick read, by the look of it...mind you, despite the first one being a joke, we still have to take your first answer, Contestant No.1...
  11. Just been having a read... Noone got it, and one person linked up the titles of 1-4, 2-5 and deduced that 3 must be something like Return of the Jedi... It all seems soooo obvious now, doesn't it...?
  12. Thanks guys, glad you like it. Like I said in the blurb, it wasn't the hardest piece of music to copy as far as the lines themselves went, it's just that there were a million of them, just like any orchestral score...sorry for "missing that horn line"...! I'll probably whip out the original and notice that myself, next time...all part of a grand plan, thinking of a band with 4 lead guitarists, a bass and drums (a 6-piece rock band, nothing out of the ordinary there), which plays...well...dunno yet....instrumentals would be fun, probably not a lot of paying gigs in it though...! Into The Trap from ROTJ is the next project (the one with Ackbar yelling out: "all craft prepare to retreat", love that bit where it modulates from G to D), as well as melodic lines to go over one of the other Works In Progress on the site called "Super". And yes, Tie Fighter, it's ok to laugh! Not someone who takes himself that seriously....and there were even a few yuks from this end when I was putting it all together...!
  13. Hi Guys. New member, old JW fan. I'm a music teacher from Brisbane, Australia, play guitar, love Star Wars, yadda yadda, just like 99% of you... I've recorded a version of Duel of the Fates I'd like to get a comment on. Non profit, not downloadable, not professionally recorded enough (!), on my own site....most of my Sportal.com friends love it, but they're jocks, not musos (!) - I want to throw it to the wolves on JW's fansite, where I'm sure I'll get an honest reaction...! I did this because I want to explore some guitar techniques before I fork out bucks to record my own guitar instrumental album - I figure I should learn from the best, which is why I did this one, and have "Into The Trap" from ROTJ being panel beated into shape as we speak...not trying to rip JW off, just trying to learn, and the results are pretty cool, if I might say so myself, despite some lo-budget technical no-no's. Would love to get the man himself to have a listen, if he hasn't already listened to 1000 cover versions of his work in the past...! Go to www.gibbke.moonfruit.com, and then Finished Instrumentals - Duel of the Fates...
