  1. We can't be concerned about the EU, remember the films are foundation for the entire Starwars Universe. Hopefully whoever takes on the project will at least be respectful to the existing material, I've always said George should stick to writing the story but not the screenplay or directing. Too bad Joss is tied up with Avengers and Shield, and JJ with Star Trek.
  2. I've recently started an independent film editing company and needed to brush up on some techniques. I'll add this video to my portfolio, it's far from perfect but it should reasonably showcase some of the things i've learned to do with After Effects and Final Cut. Eventually I want to revisit the project but for now this is will have to do. Unfortunately I didn't find a spot to fit Max Rebo's band, maybe later. Cheers
  3. I love the Goldsmith Supergirl "Emerald City" theme ( I think it's called that). I find myself listening and enjoying that almost as much as Sup's love theme. As far as a Superman theme minus the love theme, well I haven't heard one. I think it would seriously be lacking without that cue.
  4. Wow good one! For me Star Wars and Star Wars. Even though the prequels made this one difficult! Prior to the prequels it would have been a no brainer although Indiana Jones is very close. Although you forgot to add Twilight to the list......haha ( FYI -I'd rather have my eye balls plucked out by buzzards and boiled in goats milk than watch those movies)
  5. The score was one of Gia's finest IMHO. And the film was a pleasant surprise also. Far from perfect but fun enough. I saw it free because my Tron:Legacy Blu-ray had a promo-code for 12 dollars towards John Carter. Maybe that added to the sweetness of the film, no heafty ticket price in lingering in the back of my mind. I've never read the books or heard of them until recently, any good? I hear John Carter has quite a fan-base.
  6. I always thought TPM and ATOTC could have been one movie. Little kiddie Anakin "sand storms are very....very dangerous" (Oscar worthy performance there) could have been in the first 30 min of the film. Cut the crappy love dialogue from Clones and the crap-tracked score and we'd probably have had a winner.
  7. It seems like Gia struggles to do what John or even Goldsmith did with ease. I was waiting to hear a simple but beautiful lullaby-ish cue such as "ET and Me, Marions theme, The Face of Pan, yodas theme" or Goldsmiths "'Mary Anne's Theme" or the B theme from either 'Gremlins or even Supergirl", even Horner's Krull love theme. Everytime I watch a film that John has scored, new or old, there's always that moment when I say " this guy has done it again", he rarely ceases to amaze me. There was a moment in S8 that I felt would have been a perfect opportunity to compose a beautiful melody but it ended up being just ok, pretty much forgettable and I felt that it would have been much more effective if it were scored by one of the greats. Or maybe if Gia hadn't scored like what, 50 other films this year. Maybe if he would just say no to a project occasionally and stop acting like a kid in a candy store he can give us 'The' score we have all been waiting for. I expected Super 8 to be that score but for me it wasn't (I'll still admit the final cue was one of the best finales I've heard in a long time......a long time). I'm looking forward to the academy awards this year, when Gia is nominated for either Cars 2 or Super 8 but John wins for War Horse or TinTin. It would be equivalent to Williams saying " when 100 years old you reach, score as good you'll not"!
  8. Saw it in IMAX last night. Here's my NO SPOILER review. Absolutely loved it! Loyal Spielberg and Starwars fans will be delighted (plenty of Easter eggs). The children were so perfect, Fanning will impress you making you toy with the idea that she may be even better than her sister! Super 8 is ultimately a love story, no, not between the characters in the film but between J.J. and his favorite movies (which happen to also be my favorite movies)! It may Just be the greatest fanfilm ever made. It was strange that not many people were present at the theater, only 50 or 60, which makes me think it's going to take a lot of word of mouth to get this going. I applaud Abrams for his integrity, what he has done is put a great amount of faith in his audience. This films success will reveal a lot about the general public just as Inception did last year, another film that was shrouded in secrecy and relied on good old word of mouth to get butts in the seats. Now the score ..... well unfortunately I was slightly underwhelmed by it. It had a few brilliant moments but I think that I possibly ruined the experience for myself because of my own John Williams comparisons. His score as heard in the film I'd give 3 of 5 stars. I felt there were some moments that he was struggling and others he hit the marks. I too, as many others felt that it was very similar to Lost. Is that such a bad thing? No, but it's not really what I anticipated for this particular film. But its possible that after multiple viewings/listenings I will change my mind. To be fair it took multiple listens before I appreciated Phantom Menace or The Lost World so such can be the case here. I know some of you live in places that will not be showing this film for quite a while so I genuinely hope you can stay spoiler free, this one is quite a treat. It's not perfect by a long shot, but it didn't need to be. It's evident they had fun making this film, and we had a lot of fun watching it. I hope Amblin productions make a huge comeback after this but to tell you the truth this felt more like a proper farewell, much better than capt Kirks! Solid 4 of 5 Stars ( may go up if I change my mind about the score)
  9. Isn't the actual director for this the same person that worked on the Battlestar Galactica series? Too bad he didn't go the same route with the prequels. I'm really just look forward to seeing "Lucasfilm" at the beginning of a film again, it gives me chills like the "Amblin" logo!
  10. The score is on the official site http://super8.mtiny.mobi/
  11. Somebody just posted a comment on my YouTube channel and said the score sounds very similar to Lost. That's not a bad thing but not what I had in mind for this film. Not like this random person has anytype of credibility or anything, but some people have been recently invited to early screen-tests this past weekend.
  12. Is it me or is the buzz really down for this movie? I hope it isn't overlooked in favor of bigger unoriginal franchises. For me this movie couldn't have come at a better time, when Hollywood is overloaded with sequels, prequels, squeakuels and such we get a film that attempts to remind us of one of the best times in modern cinema IMHO ! I hope it's great.
  13. I was appalled when Ratner replaced Singer on X3. Ratner replacing Spielberg on any project is shocking! I was looking Forward to 39 Clues. But there's many other projects I'd rather Spielberg finish before this so if it has to go, it has to go. But Ratner! AAARGH!!!! http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=21600&count=0
