  1. Yep, I saw that. I hope the ink on the contract is drying. This is terrific news!
  2. Need the deluxe Blu Ray, but waiting for a US distributor. These will be more available, right?
  3. Maybe because by then, after two films, you saw the pattern, knew the conventions, and as a kid, you were so hyped for the outcome to the ESB cliffhanger, your brain was recording the experience differently. Nevertheless I do agree with you, and you articulated it well. It does capture the essence of the experience somehow. Whether that’s inherently the score (nature) or our childhood responses (nurture), I’m not sure.
  4. How about Thin Red Line? Have you heard it? It has a good reputation and I’m currently force feeding it to myself to decide if I want the LLL CD. 10 tracks in and I’m wondering why the good reputation. The one time Zimmer ever got my attention was in WW84. The early scenes in the Mall were sort of jubilant heroic fun. Williams has it covered. Between Private Ryan, Schindler, Empire of the Sun, Midway, Indiana Jones, Amazing Stories - The Mission, None But the Brave, and yes 1941, he left no facet of the war unscored.
  5. I couldn’t agree more. Probably was a combination of shots being more expensive and time consuming to set up and a desire to streamline the process for efficiency, cost, and comfort of the crew and actors. They found their safe groove, but in some ways it got boring. I actually really enjoy the early TNG seasons for the reasons you mentioned and for the livelier scoring as well.
  6. This is back in stock at LLL. I don't know if I want to buy a copy of the CDs. I started sampling to it on headphones while cooking. Got to track 10 Staros Refuses Order. I'm not convinced. Do I need to keep going? Is there a certain point where it does something different?
  7. Possibly! “I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself, and sometimes the shit out of you,” Spielberg added. “I gotta get back to some of those earlier scarier movies, but that’s another story for later on.” Berlin 2023 Lifetime Achievement Speech
  8. I think Aliens is a fair guess, since they let that go OOP. Edit: hmm I guess that was temporary. It’s back in stock. Wasn’t it on a low quantities list a few months ago?
  9. Steven Spielberg will be making a UFO movie based on an original idea with a David Koepp script. (Variety) Will this bring Johnny back to the scoring stage?
  10. I did buy it yesterday!! Alright it was last month, but still I haven’t even spun it yet, so if it’s Starship Troopers, you’re all welcome.
  11. This just came back in stock. I saw the movie ages ago, but don’t remember the music. Kamen can be wonderful (Robin Hood, Baron Munchausen) but other times leaves me cold. Anyone else besides Karol have thoughts on this? His review gives a rather bleak or sterile impression.
  12. Does this cover you posted represent CD or LP? I can’t find a listing for a 30th Anniversary Remaster on CD, only vinyl.
  13. Private Resort (1985) I felt like watching a shitty Spring Break style teen sex comedy. So my wife picked Private Resort, probably hoping to see some early Johnny Depp. From the box art, you could assume it’s a Depp vehicle, and you’d be wrong. Oh he’s in it a lot, but it seemed like he was Rob Morrow’s sidekick. No matter. You get two horny guys with zero backstory looking to get laid at the resort. Hector Elizondo plays “The Maestro”, a bumbling jewel thief who… Ah, who cares? There’s plenty of bewbs, bare ass from both Depp and Morrow, lots of physical Benny Hill style comedy, no tattoos, zero diversity (unless you count the two Sumo wrestlers), and the large chested woman from the Police Academy movies. Did I mention there’s bewbs? How the hell do I give this a number ranking out of 10? I’m not gonna even try. Sad fact is, I laughed at this stupid but entertaining time capsule. A throwback then even to those old ribald Euro sex comedies. They don’t and can’t make them like this anymore.
