Titan A.E. will probably only sell 1,500 copies. Just the way it is.

Passion of the Christ will not just sell to the small community of film music collectors; It will also sell to Christians around the world. Wouldn't be surprised if it makes Amazons best selling CD list of December, and might even be sold in stores. This one title should provide LLL enough income to fund many future film score releases, some of which might not even turn them a profit. This is HUGE for them.

Yeah, I'm really not convinced thousands of Christians are going to be forking over $25 for ANY 2CD soundtrack.

I actually regularly attend a very large Protestant church (6,000+ members) and while I can't even begin to speak for the entire congregation, I'm pretty sure only a handful of my friends have even seen Gibson's Passion. Sure there will probably be a few more Catholics than Protestants picking this one up, but I'm betting well over 90% of these people and fans of the film in general will be satisfied with the OST.

I'll be surprised if this sells out within 5 years.

It's a very special release that appeals to people beyond the film score community. We need to spread the good word, so to speak, thus the reason why we are announcing this particular title early.

It's amazing we actually got to release this at all. It was at our signing event for LAIR where the topic of an expanded Passion came up. John told us he wanted to do a deluxe edition 5 years ago, but Sony nixed the idea, feeling the regular version was still selling very well and they didn't want to break it's stride. SO, five years later we approached Sony and Icon with a basket of cookies and they both said YES! smile
Now if we can only convince Sony to let us do TITANIC at some point....
MV

Also, Jeff Bond did the liner notes, Dan Goldwasser did the art direction, and Dan Goldwasser and John Debney produced it.

wouldn't it be even better (for them), if this was released near Easter?

I mean Passion of the Christ is more of an Easter film, not a Christmas film.

This seems to me like releasing Home Alone in June.

It is slso a strong score. Not in my favourite idiom but well executed all along. A lot of work went into it, clearly. No wonder Debney is so proud of it. And, as you say, it will sell well.

Having said that, the symphony version is still superior.

Every product sells more in the third quarter of the year than any other time.

Plus, if you put a bunch of hard work into making a great product, why have it sit in a warehouse for 4 months waiting to be released instead of releasing it now?

You can sell your Varese version to pay for most of the LLL version. The LLL version is definitely superior (but I suppose not essential)

MV posted on the FSM boards that Ladyhawke is still sitting at WB waiting to be approved, so won't make their Black Friday batch

Looks like 2015 for that one! Sorry, folks
