  1. Don't know if I even want to try such a ranking for my favourite director. I know that JURASSIC PARK is at the top, that goes without saying. Otherwise, films like A.I., RAIDERS, E.T., SCHINDLER, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, EMPIRE OF THE SUN vil vie for the next spots somehow. Meanwhile, at the bottom, it will no doubt be films like 1941 and THE BFG, but there are redeeming qualities in both. They're not bad films, just "less good" in the Spielberg canon. Maybe the last place will go to the über-patriotic and sentimental documentary short A TIMELESS CALL (we still need that Williams score released, though). So no, I won't attempt a ranking, even though I kinda just did.
  2. Yeah, I realized I wasn't following his Facebook page, for some reason. Remedied now.
  3. Whoa, that slipped past me. And here I was talking earlier about the lack of any new Gilmour in recent years. Thanks for the heads-up!
  4. As long as we're sharing Indy collections, here's mine. I have these physically: Additionally, I have these in digital file format: Now if I could only get my old friend Jim Titus to design a slipcover, print it out somehow and BANG!, I have an Indiana Jones box that outshines this new set from Disney in every way.
  5. I have a friend and colleague who has seen PSB double-digit amount of times over the years. Personally, I've never seen them even once. Would definitely like to, but right now, it's complete stop in regards to concerts (unless they're free, or I get accreditation or something, in which case it needs to be film music-related only).
  6. Sounds like a kitchy, but rollicking good time!
  7. Pretty old news, though. The 'cheetos story' came out not that long after the film premiered. Just Lynch being his wacky old self. Love him!
  8. I remember being incredibly disappointed by this album when it came out in 1996. Power ballads and pop, far removed from the proggy stuff I had come to know and love from MMEB. But over time, I've come to appreciate it for what it is. Chris Thompson's soaring vocals, Mann's little interludes, big melodies, guitars aplenty. It would be the last "official" MMEB album.
  9. Yeah, I also managed to acquire all four volumes on CD in the 90s and early 2000s. They're a treasure in my collection, and not for sale. IMO, this set is a must-have for any Waxman or Golden Age fan. Shame they never managed to continue the LEGENDS OF HOLLYWOOD series further.
  10. I've always found tracks 1-3 to be movement 1, 4-6 movement 2, 7-9 movement 3 and then the repeat of the theme is a fine coda. Beautiful presentation.
  11. No, I think we interpret the word 'curate' differently. I've always taken it to mean both a selection of material, as well as manners in which said material is presented. Like curators at an art exhibition. So sequencing plays a role too.
  12. How does that negate the fact that it's curated? As far as I know, a selection and order of music have been made? It's not the entire score in film order? Just because it plays the same theme twice, doesn't mean it's not curated. In fact, that's another part of a curated presentation. Personally, I like the two iterations of the theme -- makes for perfect album bookends.
  13. Yeah, it could perhaps do with a little more Euro-centric sound, but it's fine as a musical album, and it does hit the right notes of the story throughout. I think Williams "missed the mark" more clearly, geographically, with THE BFG. LINCOLN-style Americana for such a quintessentially British story.
  14. The film is most certainly a masterpiece, one of the best war movies ever. The score bored the hell out of me when it came out. That kind of slow, solemn Americana was not what I was looking for as a restless young man of barely 20. Of course, tastes change a bit, and now I'm far more receptive to that kind of music. I mean, not for an infinite amount of time - the OST is perfectly curated - but enough to get engrossed by. The film is also brilliantly spotted, allowing many scenes to play out more effectively without music.
  15. Another interesting one comes to mind. THE TOWERING INFERNO was called INFERNO IN FLAMES over here. As in, are there any non-flame infernos out there?
