Recommendations for "autumn" films (1930-1995)

Hello.

I started this thread at blu-ray.com too, but i didn't get many suggestions in what i was looking for.

I'm searching for films of the specific time frame, whose plot is in autumn, with many autumn landscapes and an autumn feel.

I'm not searching for Halloween, or Thanksgiving movies (i will be searching for those in their own time). (neither horror/thrillers)

One that fits the criteria, that I've seen, is The Trouble with Harry.

Also When harry Mets Sally was suggested. I've seen it but I don't remember it much..

Rudy - that I watched yesterday - was very autumn-y too (although it had a couple of winter scenes)

Dead poets Society has an excellent autumn atmosphere (the one I'm looking for), but its later part is held in snowy winter, so I'm keeping that for later..

Maybe not the type of movie you're looking for, but The Exorcist has lots of fall - like scenes interspersed with all the possession drama.

Also, "Big" with Tom Hanks.

Stepmom

Unfaithful

Hoosiers

Where the Red Fern Grows

Cold Mountain

October Sky

EDIT: oh look, you said NOT Halloween movies. Sorry, missed that on the first reading!

thanks, I'd prefer movies that are 80-90% autumn.

Meet me in St Louis is of course a great film, but it features all seasons.

I don't remember if "A league of their own" fits.

It certainly felt autumny with the nostalgic atmosphere..

also maybe Steel Magnolias.

Where the Red Fern Grows

which one do you mean?

1974 or 1992?

I seem to remember that The Dead Zone (1983) opening scenes are in Autumn, with leaves falling.

I may be mistaken, but that first came to mind to the question, and Kamen's opening music fits that.

(neither horror/thrillers)

Ah, just saw that. Anyway.,

Well no offense, but your "requirements" are incredibly strict and honestly make no sense. Fantastic Mr. Fox is beautiful in its color palette and atmosphere, exactly fits your autumn description, but oops, it's post-1995.

I understand how you feel, but if i started a thread asking for recommendations of Goldsmith scores it means that you would suggest eg. Elfman scores?

Or if you asked in a thread for suggestions of old classic films, and I reply: "The Dark Knight, The Avengers, X-Men first class", would you be OK with that?

To ask for a specific thing it means I have my reasons and my criteria make sense to me.. ;)

(and i don't see it as so strict, asking for films of a 65 years timeframe)

Your analogies aren't really the same. Strict in that you have a timeframe, and it can't be Halloween or Thanksgiving related and neither a thriller or horror film... And it has to be 80%+ set in autumn? Like what are you looking for and why? Films that meet your criteria don't exist.

Bertolucci's The Conformist.

oh, coincidentally i read about this film yesterday or today.

I think it was in a list with the more violent films ever (?).

I didn't know it's autumn-y.

I'll check it out, thanks.

The Conformist... violent? Hardly by today's standards. Excellent film though.

oh yes, found it.

but it's in greek:

12 most violent films.

I can't really translate what it says about the conformist, buit i guess it means more about a psychological violence.

Personally I find 1900 a lot more disturbing.

Oh certainly. Didn't they actually kill the animals on set for the film? The only thing I remember standing out from The Conformist was the gay sex scene with the kid.

Hoosiers is not an autumn film. High School Basketball starts in late fall/early winter but ends in spring, since the film is about a championship its a spring film.

All the Right Moves

North Dallas Forty

I remember the Neverland scenes and I thought that was perfect for autumn setting. Oh well...

well, wasn't Neverland in bloom? So it was like spring.

But yes, I watch Hook every Christmas time.

@Joey

That North Dallas forty seems interesting, thanks.

I've seen All the right moves and I liked it.

I generally like films which are held in small American towns.

. I didn't remember it was autumny!

You don't remember it as an autumnly movie?! Heck, The Accidental Tourist would be autumnly even if it took place in the Summer. Even Williams' score is pure autumn.

I guess I paid much attention to the characters, dialogue and music, than the actual setting.

I have seen it 3 times I think, the last one totally paying attention to the music, writing notes about the themes used and timecodes.

I do remember now a Thanksgiving dinner. ( I think)
