War Horse - For Your Consideration Promotional CD

Bonjour all,

Somebody is selling on eBay a FYC disc from War Horse.

Ok, nothing great and it's probably a CD-R...

BUT

the seller says it has got 20 tracks!

I contacted him. Waiting for his answer!

If it is a real CD and not a CDR, and it contains unreleased music, we JWFanners could always pool our money to buy it, rip it, then just put it back up on ebay and sell for likely the same price we paid for it.

Hmm, well I wouldn't get too excited at this point

He could just be trying to make money by splitting up War Horse tracks and making it look like there's unreleased music

I got an answer!

"Looks to be a Pressed Cd..Total running time is 62 minutes 3 secs...Thanks"

I'm confused! My WAR HORSE cd, which is a regular pressing of course, has got a TT of 65:35... :conf:

The seller has for sale a lot of FYC things... He also has a top profil. He seems serious to me.

I sent back another message to have the track-listing...

Shall share if I'd have an answer.

Hum -- I don't know, if it's just edits, it's not THAT interesting to pay $$$...

If you're on FB, SCREEN ARCHIVES posted about a lot of FYC discs -- not for sale!

But they also say that ALL FYC are CDRs, including Tintin (no War Horse on the pic).

Look here: https://fbcdn-sphoto...910350511_n.jpg

IMHO, at 99,99%, War Horse FYC disc would also be a CDR.

On eBay, madness has begun... I only hope now that a JWFan member will be the higher bidder. :santa:

I'd have been interested in the Tintin promo if it had the Portuguese Plane cue, or if the tracks had been presented in unedited form... too bad. But that Puss In Boots FYC with 74 tracks is tempting!

62 minutes? So a lot of scores are released as FYC with extra music not on the OST EXCEPT Williams ones...again

I think it might have to do with restricting Williams unreleased music to higher score trading circles. The people who have access to sessions to make these types of promos are probably the same that leak/trade recording sessions behind the scenes . Nobody cares if they include the complete score to Puss and Boots...but Tintin is probably worth a lot more

Well, Eh Tar posted it but seemingly deleted it again within an hour. Maybe you can post it again EhTar.

Out of my memory about a third or more track titles were different. The question is if these contain partly unreleased music or are just the single cues which were edited together on the OST album.

Yes, it's probabaly more a different way to edit the content of the Sony album... minus 3 minutes!

And I guess Tintin is the same presentation than the Sony album too.

We're far away from the A.I. FYC 2 CD set!

Good luck to those who will bid on those promo discs!

Hmmmmmmmmm

Here's my guess

1/ DARTMOOR = OST 1 Dartmoor, 1912

2/ THE AUCTION = OST 2 The Auction

3/ BRINGING HOME JOEY = OST 3 Bringing Joey Home, and Bonding [0:00-2:12]

4/ BONDING WITH JOEY = OST 3 Bringing Joey Home, and Bonding [2:12-end]

5/ THE WHISTLING MONTAGE = OST 4 Learning The Call

6/ ALBERT DEFENDS JOEY AND HORSE VS. CAR = OST 5 Seeding, and Horse Vs Car

7/ PLOWING = OST 6 Plowing

8/ DADS METALS = OST 7 Ruined Crop, and Going To War [0:00-1:52]

9/ LEAVING FRANCE OST 7 Ruined Crop, and Going To War [1:52-end]

10/ THE CHARGE = OST 8 The Charge and Capture [0:00-1:40]

11/ SURROUNDED AND CAPTURED = OST 8 The Charge and Capture [1:40-end]

12/ THE DESERTION = OST 9 The Dessertion

13/ JOEY'S NEW FRIENDS = OST 10 Joey's New Friends

14/ PULLING THE CANNON = OST 11 Pulling The Cannon

15/ THE DEATH OF TOPTHRON = OST 12 The Death of Topthorn

16/ THE DASH ACROSS NO MAN LAND = OST 13 No Man's Land

17/ APPROACHING TRAPPED JOEY = OST 14 The Reunion [0:00-1:39]

18/ THE REUNION = OST 14 The Reunion [1:39-end]

19/ REMEBERING EMILIE AND FINALE = OST 15 Remembering Emilie, and Finale

20/ END CREDITS = OST 16 The Homecoming

Or maybe

16/ THE DASH ACROSS NO MAN LAND = OST 13 No Man's Land [0:00-1:57]

17/ APPROACHING TRAPPED JOEY = OST 13 No Man's Land [1:57-end]

18/ THE REUNION = OST 14 The Reunion

No idea about the 3 minutes shorter thing, unless it's the film edit of the End Credits rather than the full album track

I'm sure it was reported that No Man's Land was taken from two parts of the film.

And wouldn't it make more sense for 'The Dash...' to be the second part given that it's an action cue?

Having seen the film, yes, I'm almost certain it is, since the action section comes several minutes before the opening section of "No Man's Land."

And there's a pretty big edit in "The Homecoming" in the film. That is probably the source of the missing 3 minutes.

For your information:

War Horse FYC disc sold for $41.

And Tintin FYC disc sold for $65.

$41? Damn, I should have bid! I never would have guessed it would have sold for that low. Oh well.

Having now seen the film, the FYC CD is probably this:

16/ THE DASH ACROSS NO MAN LAND = OST 13 No Man's Land [1:57-end]

17/ APPROACHING TRAPPED JOEY = OST 13 No Man's Land [0:00-1:57]

18/ THE REUNION = OST 14 The Reunion

The two halves of OST track 13 are in opposite order of how they play in the film.

really... we didnt care for the Tintin promo before yesterday???

'18 tracks, it wil be just the ost'

Could warhorse contain music not in the ost, in the end? like a film version or something?

I'm really kicking myself for not buying this when the auction was going on. I mean, it sold for freaking $41!

I know it does't contain anything not on the OST, but it has unique clean endings and openings, which is cool because I hate the way some of the tracks overlap on the OST.

If anyone sees this on ebay again, please let me know!

Super 8 and Tintin (and Puss N Boots and Hugo) were Paramount FYCs.... this is a Dreamworks FYC. Dreamworks cares more, I guess

---

Good news: The track names are slighty different than what was reported before, and make more sense now.

Weird news: The ENTIRE CD IS BACKWARDS!!!!! What is labeled in track 1 appears in track 20, what is labeled as track 2 appears in track 19, etc. HOW WEIRD IS THAT????????????

In other words, here are the titles per the back cover, with the timings of what is actually in each track:

1. Dartmoor (8:33)

2. The Auction (5:14)

3. Bringing Joey Home (4:26)

4. Bonding With Joey (2:06)

5. The Whistling Montage (2:11)

6. Albert Defends Joey And Harnesses (2:51)

7. Plowing (4:24)

8. Dad's Medals And Horse Vs Car (3:36)

9. Leaving For France (2:09)

10. The Charge (1:45)

11. Surrounded And Captured (1:59)

12. The Desertion (1:47)

13. Joey's New Friends (1:55)

14. Pulling The Cannon (3:53)

15. The Death Of Topthorn (3:07)

16. The Dash Across No Man's Land (0:56)

17. Approaching Trapped Joey (1:54)

18. The Reunion (2:35)

19. Remembering Emilie And Finale (2:27)

20. End Credits (4:07)

Which obviously makes no sense! That's because the tracks don't contain the music the back cover says it does!!! Here is what is ACTUALLY on the CD:

1. End Credits (8:33)

2. Remembering Emilie And Finale (5:14)

3. The Reunion (4:26)

4. Approaching Trapped Joey (2:06)

5. The Dash Across No Man's Land (2:11)

6. The Death Of Topthorn (2:51)

7. Pulling The Cannon (4:24)

8. Joey's New Friends (3:36)

9. The Desertion (2:09)

10. Surrounded And Captured (1:45)

11. The Charge (1:59)

12. Leaving For France (1:47)

13. Dad's Medals And Horse Vs Car (1:55)

14. Plowing (3:53)

15. Albert Defends Joey And Harnesses (3:07)

16. The Whistling Montage (0:56)

17. Bonding With Joey (1:54)

18. Bringing Joey Home (2:35)

19. The Auction (2:27)

20. Dartmoor (4:07)

!!! How INSANE is that!!! I think this will only HURT the score's chances of winning the Oscar, as the academy voters putting the CD on will be treated to the End Credits music first, go right into the finale music continue on through the climactic cues and eventually end up at the introductory music. If they read the back cover titles while listening they will think Williams has gone of his rocker, picturing the music they are listening to set to the scene the titles describe!!!

This is obviously what was MEANT to be pressed onto the CD:

1. Dartmoor (4:07)

2. The Auction (2:27)

3. Bringing Joey Home (2:35)

4. Bonding With Joey (1:54)

5. The Whistling Montage (0:56)

6. Albert Defends Joey And Harnesses (3:07)

7. Plowing (3:53)

8. Dad's Medals And Horse Vs Car (1:55)

9. Leaving For France (1:47)

10. The Charge (1:59)

11. Surrounded And Captured (1:45)

12. The Desertion (2:09)

13. Joey's New Friends (3:36)

14. Pulling The Cannon (4:24)

15. The Death Of Topthorn (2:51)

16. The Dash Across No Man's Land (2:11)

17. Approaching Trapped Joey (2:06)

18. The Reunion (4:26)

19. Remembering Emilie And Finale (5:14)

20. End Credits (8:33)

Studying it right now to determine exact contents. It seems to be the exact film versions, like the Super 8 and Tintin FYCs

Yes!!! Contains all the little bits Williams microedited out of the OST.

Also, I'm beginning to think these are raw untouched recording session files and NOT the exact film versions. The CD has clean endings that don't exist in the film

So are there whole unreleased cues, or are we simply getting similar to the OST arrangement but with microedits restored, cues split up properly, and appropriate 'intended' versions?

Either way, this is great!

Link to comment

No whole unreleased cues. Just the unedited recording sessions version of 20 out of the 25 cues that were selected to be on the OST ("To The Auction", "The Duck", one of the cues that make up "Plowing", "Ruined Crop", and "The Execution" are missing)
