I might go to this. Although I was kinda hoping they'd follow last year's The Fellowship of the Ring with a The Two Towers live to projection this year.

I'll definitely attend. Ive seen the symphony once before. In 2004 I think.

But if was performed in a large sports arena with rubbish acoustics which largely ruined the experience.

I sat in front of a giant Bose speaker.

Hmm, not sure if I can force my stepfather to drive me there.

One does not simply ask from stepdad a drive to Amsterdam for a LotR concert!

One DEMANDS IT!

First of all I have to say that I had a very nice evening. I love these scores and it's always great to see them performed live. Especialli in the Concertgebouw. And the audience seems to have really enjoyed it.

But...

This was advertised as The Lord Of The Rings Symphony, which is a specific musical program. With the music selected and arranged and approved by Howard Shore.

This obviously wasnt the case with the program they played. The track order makes no sense at all.

Also the arrangements were often altered, probably to accommodate a smaller size orchestra. I did a headcount and came at around 50 players and a choir of around 30. All of them competent, but the ensemble was too small to really do this juggernaut of music justice (only The End Of All Things really was grand enough)

Also unfortunate was that there were solo solo vocals. So everything that would usually have a solo vocalist was instead sung by either the entire female choir or the whole mixed choir.

And what LOTR concert doesnt put The Breaking Of The Fellowship on it's program?

They should have just done a Live to Projection like last year. I definitely would have been there for The Two Towers live to projection after last year's excellent Fellowship performance.

So this was not the Symphony authorized by Shore. Someone should notify his lawyers so he can make mince meat out of the impostors!

I can't say for certain was this unauthorized or not. I took a look at the production company run by the conductor and he has been doing these concerts before but that doesn't really tell if these concerts or performances have been approved by Shore.

Funny how the program calls it The Lord of the Rings in Concert, yet the Concertgebouw listed it as The Lord of the Rings Symphony. Sounds like they screwed up at the Concertgebouw.

I'm sure the music was still good, though.

I will certainly devote an email to this.

Inky, do you have any info as to this being unauthorized?

I smell a refund!

Steef - I'll send you a PM. This sounds a bit suspect.

I've been informed that they aren't.

It's essentially like performing a bootleg live on stage!

Let's hope they can put a stop to these unauthorized performances.
