But it's on the frickin' soundtrack! Someone should release the original OST on CD for the mass market. Or maybe that'd make for a great fourth disc on a future reissue of the LLL?

The two versions of the song are already in LLL's release 3rd disc?

There are 4 pieces of music recorded for the production that are not on the LLL set - though none of them were composed by John Williams

There's "Rouge City Jazz" by Joseph Williams, heard in this clip from 2:34-end

There's "Rouge City Rock" by Joseph Williams, heard in this clip from 1:02-end

And there's another version of "Rogue City Jazz", with the saxophone lead replaced by electronics, heard in this clip from 0:01-0:42 or so

Finally, there's the orchestral backing that appears in this clip from 1:58-end:

What about the snippet of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Waltz? Was this not conducted by Williams at the A.I. sessions?

I checked the end credits and it's not even referenced (perhaps because the piece is so old, the copyright expired?)

But generally, they would still list the conductor/orchestra for usage of existing recordings.

Not sure if Williams recorded that or it's an existing recording. Did you try Shazaming it?

No result :(

Der Rosenkavalier is listed in the credits though, and Williams integrated that into his score. Maybe source music is credited differently to existing material rearranged into your own music.

I suspect Williams wouldn't have mentioned it in the featurette if he didn't personally conduct it at the sessions (otherwise it's really got nothing to do with him, moreso the sound department). I also think an existing recording would be credited if they used a past recording, as with Unfinished Symphony on Minority Report.

I finally did an alternate OST program that fits on one disc (less than 79:00 minutes). It was much harder to do than Minority Report or War of the Worlds which had around 25 minutes and 9 minutes from the complete score left out, but in this case it wasn't easy to acquire some sort of brevity without leaving out too much substantial material. In the end I did exactly what the OST did - fokus on the second half of the score:

  1. The Mecha World 8:18 (edited LLL track)
  2. Cybertronics 3:33 (LLL track)
  3. David's Arrival 5:09 ("David's Arrival (alternate)" + "Monica's Plan" (edited) + "Canoeing with Pinocchio (alternate)")
  4. Hide and Seek 3:27 (LLL track)
  5. Stored Memories and Monica's Theme 11:45 (unedited OST track recreation)
  6. Abandoned in the Woods 3:10 (OST track)
  7. Journey to Rouge City 3:49 (LLL track)
  8. Almost Human 4:17 ("Remembering David Hobby" (edited) + "The Specialist Visits" (edited))
  9. Under the Ice 5:04 ("Journey Through the Ice (part 2)" LLL track)
  10. The Search for the Blue Ferry 6:13 (OST track recreation)
  11. Replicas 6:00 (OST/LLL track)
  12. The Moon Rising 6:19 ("The Moon Rising" + "The Biker Hounds (extension)" (edited) + "The Biker Hounds")
  13. The Reunion 7:03 ("The Reunion (alternate)" LLL track)
  14. Where Dreams Are Born 4:23 (OST/LLL track)

The only track that might seem a little odd is "David's Arrival", because I used the opening piano of "Monica's Plan" as a transition from "David's Arrival (alternate)" to "Canoeing with Pinocchio (alternate)". The transition to the latter is harmonically, let me say, unusual. It only makes sense, as soon as get back to the Hide and Seek theme.

There is a bunch of cues that I regret not being included, but it was my goal to have a program that fits on a single disc. Some music from the first half of the score fell victim to that:

  • Henry Is Selected
  • David Studies Monica
  • Reading the Words
  • Martin Is Alive
  • The Operating Scene
  • The Pool Rescue

That's the problem right there. Reating CDs ruins them.

Have you tried them on several drives or players?

Karol

Yes. Different players. when I look at the CD it looks like the reflective layer is disiintegrating somehow.

I'm sure LLL will send you a replacement disc if you ask them. They usually have spare copies even for titles that are OOP.

Ok. But here comes the problem. I bought it from a reseller.

But good hint. I will try.

Thank you.
