On May 10th, a historic box set of 100 CDs titled "CHARLES AZNAVOUR - THE COMPLETE WORK" will be released, presenting for the first time the complete Spanish discography of Charles Aznavour, recorded between 1958 and 1996. I wonder where I'll put it... because it takes up space! Hehe. Honestly, 100 CDs seem a bit excessive for a box set, and I'm not a fan of collections that mix studio and live recordings... But for 100 years, it was necessary to mark the occasion. Of course, we would have liked Aznavour to still be with us to celebrate this!

"CHARLES AZNAVOUR - THE COMPLETE WORK" (release: May 10, 2024) 1948-2015 A life, a legacy, in 100 CDs Charles Aznavour is primarily celebrated for his exceptional success in France, where he became a true icon of French chanson. His iconic songs such as "La Bohème," "Emmenez-moi," and "Hier encore" have left an indelible mark on entire generations and remain essentials of Francophone music. But beyond his national triumphs, Aznavour also conquered the world with his multilingual talent and diverse repertoire. With numerous albums released in English, Italian, Spanish, and German, he touched international audiences and gained global recognition, making him one of the most universally beloved artists of his time. On May 10th, Universal Music will release a historic 100-CD box set to celebrate Charles Aznavour's centennial. This box set, comprising over 1,800 tracks, will gather Aznavour's complete studio and live albums, along with rarities and many unreleased tracks. It will also mark the first CD edition of most of Aznavour's foreign albums, including a Spanish Christmas album recorded in 1996 and an English album titled "I Will Warm Your Heart," recorded in 1975 with Del Newman, which have never been released before. These albums are now ready to be discovered and appreciated by a new audience. The Spanish Christmas album, recorded on June 28, 1996, was likely set aside to not overshadow the release of "Cuando estás junto a mi," intended for the Spanish market that same year. As for "I Will Warm Your Heart," it consists of 12 tracks recorded primarily during a session with Del Newman on March 5, 1975, offering a unique jam session ambiance. Despite its recording, this album never saw the light of day, making way for the releases of "I Sing For... You" and "Hier... encore" later that year. The album was mixed from the multitracks at Tonehouse studio in Paris in May 2023, making it Charles Aznavour's 92nd and final studio album. On October 1, 2018, at the age of 94, Charles Aznavour passed away at his second home in Mouriès, Bouches-du-Rhône, which he had built in the 1990s. For about ten years, he cultivated olive trees and produced olive oil that he marketed. His death was caused by acute pulmonary edema, leading to cardiorespiratory failure. Standing at just over five feet tall, Charles Aznavour was the last "grand" figure of French chanson, of which he was an ambassador worldwide. "He's the pope, he's God the father of song," recounted presenter Monique Giroux, testifying to the immense impact and admiration the artist elicited. His passing sparked deep emotions in France and around the world, leaving behind an invaluable musical legacy. Now that I recall, I had some difficulties encoding the last track of CD 1, the Close Encounters Suite. It took a while in EAC, or perhaps I used Burst Mode—I can't quite recall. Nonetheless, I eventually managed to obtain a perfectly encoded cue. Close Encounters of the Digital Errors!

@ciarlese In EAC, you can rip a track in 'burst mode', without error correction for these case. Often the encoded track is perfectly fine. Do I have to say that the CD technology is perfectly... imperfect?

Indeed, I find this awkward. When I see an album titled "Bach Reimagined," it often suggests that they will freely adapt Bach's music, adding notes, changing the style... and ultimately, it's no longer truly Bach. It becomes a sort of pop or jazz version of Bach, aimed at people who typically aren't familiar with or fond of Bach's music. However, in the case of John Williams and this album, I believe we can simply refer to it as "new arrangements." Unfortunately, everything in the music industry revolves around marketing. Let's consider the brilliant way in which the latest album by James Newton Howard featuring his music for Shyamalan's films was marketed (Night After Night [Music from the Movies of M. Night Shyamalan], 2023). Here, both the cover and the title are marketing disasters.
