Well, John Carter wasn't remarkable, but better than what the general consensus seems to be.

Karol

Agreed. I thought it was a very average movie. Not as bad as its reputation claims, but not something I'd go back to.

Could say the same about YOU! ;)

I don´t know about the movie. I like the first Matrix but hated the sequels, don´t care much about Speed Racer and liked Cloud Atlas, but I can´t fu%$´ wait for the score. Giacchino in BIG fantasy mode? :o. And the music in the trailer sounds promising.

I really like John Carter, (great fantasy movie, "old school" adventure one) and the score (probably Giaccho masterpiece). It´s sad that we are not going to have sequels :(.

Today we have another new trailer for a scifi movie "Edge of Tomorrow" (also Warner and Village Roadshow like Jupiter):

Damn I like Tom Cruise as an action hero (love his last ones: MI4, Oblivion and Jacke Reacher and this one looks great too). The soundtrack is by the "loved" here Ramin Dwajadi :P. He is no Giacchino but it could be fun, I really like his Pacific Rim.

I really like Pacific Rim too, and am warming up to his Game of Thrones music, but had never remotely liked anything he has done otherwise

Has GOT more good music than the great main theme?? :P. I´m a fan of the books and the series but I find the music very bland besides the main titles. I know that it gets better specially in the 3rd season but could you imagine GOT with Giacchino music?? :D.

Seasons 1 and 2 of GOT had nothing I remotely took notice of whatsoever. While watching Season 3 I heard a few cues I really liked, and they hold up on the CD presentation (which is a CD I never really listen to all the way through, but the standout cues are great)

Have you heard his score for Person of Interest? If not, I highly recommend it. The first season soundtrack is available now, and the second season soundtrack is due out in January if Varese doesn't delay it again.

WB has pushed Jupiter Ascending up a week to July 18. The studio's reclaimed the mid-July spot that's been a good-luck charm for them since 2007.

And with Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes taking Fast And Furious 7's position, that gives us two big Giacchino scores in one week.

It's certainly unusual. I think the last time one composer had two scores come out in one week was Williams' The Adventures of Tintin and then War Horse in December 2011.

And he had written 50/50 before all those I think, but that didn't come out until September.

His only score in 2010 was Let Me In.

I have to watch the trailers because I have no desire to see it otherwise. Looks pretty stunning visually though, which is not wholly unexpected with the Wachowskis. I'll see what the reviews are like first.

I'm weird about trailers. I watch them only for things I actively want to see, despite the risk of being spoiled (I'm not very bothered by that anyway), but I avoid them for things I have zero or passing interest in. Those, at least, I don't know anything about from the start since I have no interest in them and don't follow them, so if I end up seeing them, I'd rather go in totally blind.

I'm sure that's a completely nonsensical policy.

I'm surprised that nobody has commented on the fact that the final scoring sessions are currently in progress at Abbey Road.

Well I would have if I had known. Sheesh you expect us to know everything!

I don't use twitter, I rely on people who do coming here and sharing developments as they get posted there :)

Yeah I am lazy that way too. ;)

First John Carter (Of Mars), now Jupiter Ascending. Maybe Giacchino should stay away from movies with planets.

I certainly don't need the track title "And Here Is Uranus".

I would not be surprised to see that pop up.

Disney hit gold with Alice in Wonderland being released in March two years prior, I don't blame the studio for doing the same with John Carter. Problem with John Carter was the novice director and sky-high budget.

Frankly, I'm surprised WB waited until the eleventh hour to push Jupiter Ascending to February 2015. But this summer's been tough on them (apart from Godzilla), and maybe they think something like this may do better in a less-competitive month.
