Lucasfilm just announced a non-Star Wars film, and it's coming out in 2 months

Oh yeah, I remember when this was announced a long time ago. By the premise it sounded terrible, but that caption looks quite good, actually.

Would be exciting if Williams scored it, although at this point seems unlikely. Maybe Horner?

If he were attached, he would probably have gotten the bulk of the score done already.

*edit* Never mind, I read the premise which says it's a musical that will "showcase popular songs from the past six decades". Sounds awful.

The film's opening in January. The score was probably recorded over the summer. I wonder why the composer hasn't been announced?

EDIT: Variety says the composer is Marius de Vries

I'm only familiar with De Vries from his score portions on KICK-ASS. I loved that. Count me intrigued!

The guy in the background reminds me of Jar Jar Binks

You never saw Moulin Rouge?

Why, does this upcoming film remind you of The Pagemaster? (Shudder)

Generic animation film looks generic.

It looks no better or worse than every other animated movie nowadays, and therein lies the problem. CG animation all suffers from an aesthetic same-ness. I don't blame this on Lucasfilm per se. But I would be so much more impressed if someone would show some craft and produce a painstakingly rendered hand drawn animated feature.

Hey, if it gave us such gems as this one, what's the problem?

That gem also happens to be in the midst of a big, steamy cinematic pile.

Hopefully, Strange Magic will have more going for it than just the score.

ILM always puts out stunning work. Even when they subcontract certain shots to Singapore, Base FX, or London -- the quality is really, really good. The film will look great, no doubt about that.

It's take more than stunning visuals to make a great film. How creative and engaging is the story, the characters, and the world(s) within which the narrative takes place?

As far as CG animation goes, it's tough to tell from a still frame what it'll look like.

But I can say that Lucasfilm's previous CG animated effort was the Clone Wars series, and visually, in its final seasons, it was stunning stuff, especially for television. Doesn't mean this'll be a great film, or even a good-looking one. But on George's dime, they really did turn out some nice work.

That said, I'm sick to death of CG animation.

Yeah, but I never cared much for that film. Not a big fan of Baz Luhrman in the first place. However, I wasn't aware that De Vries had arranged the songs.

RANGO was ILM's 1st and only full feature film, and visually it was, and still is, stunning.

If this film has the same standards, then at least in that respect it will be amazing.

I already heard that track... in the immensely superior Land Before Time and Broughton's Homeward Bound.

trailer, though maybe it has been already posted on another thread...

It was posted in this thread, just 5 posts before yours.

Does nobody use the little orange icons next to a thread title when opening the thread? It's the only way to be!

Anyways, thanks for the bump, cause I hadn't watched it before, and now I have. It looks pretty bad. The graphics look like a mid-2000s Playstation game.

Not a fan of the new version of the Michael Franti song. This film is a total pass.

Just watched it. Yeah, animation isn't up to par for today's animation standards. And what a strange project for Lucas to invest into, it's so...unremarkable.
